Star Trek Phoenix: On Hiatus · 9:39am Sep 5th, 2021

Hello my lovely readers. I have an announcement, and it is one I make with a heavy heart.

The simple truth is, I’m exhausted. I predicted many months ago before I started on Phoenix that my work would become extraordinarily busy around this time of year, and I was correct. Even then I failed to anticipate just how busy. It has been a massive drain on my energy. I’ve also developed a few health complications that are not helping in this regard, making my sleep even worse than it used to be, which then compounds the exhaustion problem.

I am not the only one who is indisposed. Both Blue Horizon and Grand Moff have things going on with them which has made their own contributions more difficult. It may not have appeared this way to you the reader, but the last few updates have barely arrived in time, frequently with editing and adjusting going right up to the last hour or so before it is published. Episode 17, as of today, is still only ⅓ written, when it is supposed to be published tomorrow. Trying to rush, especially with so little energy, has been making me begin to dislike working on it.

Unfortunately this is not tenable, especially not if I am to write Phoenix the way it deserves to be written. Thus, I am officially placing Star Trek: Phoenix ON HIATUS. I will try to keep this hiatus short, but it may be a while before it continues. I apologize especially for doing this when I have, rather than waiting until the end of the season, but we’ve run out of time and I’ve run out of updates to give you. And I would rather take the time to give you something good than to try and rush a chapter that is awful.

This does not mean I will not be writing in the meantime, however. I do have a few short story ideas, and there’s one or two other writing things I’ll be doing in collaboration with other writers on FimFic--more on that another time. I’ve also joined Nailah’s reviewing team at the Reviewer’s Mansion group and am trying to review at least one story a week, so feel free to check out my reviewing standards and, if your story meets them, submit for me to review.

Fear not, my dear readers. Star Trek: Phoenix will return. I’ve already proven once I can finish long stories, and I will finish this one. But I need to take some time to recuperate, to avoid total burnout. And once it does return, I will see it through to the end. There’s so much to look forward to still in the story, you’ve no idea.

Thank you all for your understanding and your patience. Have a good day, my lovely readers. I’ll be around.

Sometimes we all need a hiatus. I myself have two stories in hiatus mode due to life throwing me a few problems.

Rest up we be waiting when you post again.

Prioritize your health and we'll being first, we all understand if you need some time for things to settle and become less hectic

a machine cannot function forever without maintenance. take as much time as you need to maintain if not improve your operational condition.

This makes me sad, but I'm glad you let us know.

Take care of yourself and I hope things calm down for you and your team.

Health comes first buddy, personal life is second and story third. Don’t run your self ragged like chief O’Brien, here’s a line of dialogue that a great Vulcan once taught me “may you live long, and prosper”

family and life always comes first i am more then will to sit back and watch for how ever long it takes.

That's understandable.

And, honestly, as great as the story has been, I've definitely been missing the shorter stories

Take the time you need. We understand.

You deserve a break. Come back once you are mentally prepared.

Do what you gotta do.

Nooo. =(
Oh well, such is life. Here's hoping it resumes soon.

Understandable. Everyone needs a break now and again. Come back only when your ready. We’ll be waiting.

This is fully understandable. You should always prioritize your well-being and real-life obligations. We'll be waiting for when you're ready to pick the story back up.

Edit team member here. Thank you very much for the kind words.

*turns to the comment thread* and thanks to all of you for the support and well-wishes! :pinkiesad2:

Dew said it better than I could have. Just a ton of real life stuff impacting all of us in various ways lately. My parents are in town right now, and on top of the typical need to go offline for most things, I'm also helping them navigate preparations to move into a senior living community, so that's an entire set of psychological challenges besides.

I can't speak for everyone else, but as I recall Blue's family is in the process of moving, and we can all relate to how chaotic that can get. So yeah, crazy times for everyone right now.

But like Dew said, we'll be back for sure! We're not letting this story fade away on you all.

Sucks but understandable

We'll be here when you return.

Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding. It warms my heart to hear this, and makes me feel better about having made this decision.

I know the feeling all too well. While I have not put my current story on hiatus, I have cut it down by a lot, and posting every other Thursday at worst. I'm tired a lot, too. Get the rest you need to put out quality. It's what I'm doing. Your methods, of course, may vary. Only you can say what you will do to get through this. I pledge you my support.

Looks like I'm not alone, either...

Oh, my dear friend.

Do not apologize for being swamped, tired or unable to meet deadlines. This magnificent story is a labor of love, and as we all should well know love is not beholden to earthly things like deadlines. The pace and amount you have written was beyond expectation for anyone with a conscious to think such stellar work could be updated weekly. There have been authors of equal talent that update monthly with but a fraction of one your mini episodes. Burnout has and has always been a danger with such talent, so please take time for yourself. Do not think you must have to put out content at such a periodic nature as say a season of Star Trek series. While novel and appreciated by your fans, such constraints can lead to situations like you are finding yourself now. Get some much needed rest my friend. Let creativity and inspiration happen as it may, and post only and when you feel the work matches your standards. Your true fans will be understanding and will be the first read what is posted when you are able. We aren’t going anywhere, and I doubt an imagination such as Your’s, will allow this narrative to linger for long. I will ask that when you do come back that you do so at more relaxed pace. Every two weeks or once a month, hell even every couple of months is fine. You set the course and pace of this story, we are just along for the ride. We honestly have no right to complain how fast you publish your work, as it is given freely in such quality and volume.
I would not even look at the current unfinished chapter for two weeks before even giving it another thought , if I where you, to let your mind rest.

Live long, and prosper

I understand and wish you all well. Good luck.

This is understandable and I hope that you get a much needed rest take as much time you need

And I hope everything will be ok

That's understandable though unfortunate. This story made me look forward to Mondays. But of course, you need to do what you need to do.

This might be the final sign for me to finally watch Star Trek for myself. That's going to take me a while so you'll have plenty of time to rest up. :raritywink:

I hope you feel better. It's because of you that I now have a new take on Star Trek: Generations. Having Sunset on the Enterprise while key scenes are happening makes it all the more special. It will be missed, mellonin. Until then, Arlynn, out.

So, no new chapter on Star Trek Day. Oh well.
Hopefully one before end of September. If not that, then before end of year.

Work and life rise up. Get through that then come back here to relax after, rather than feel stressed at your story for trying to force it now. You've chosen a good party and I look forward to the future return.

Always t6ake Real life before the story. Or you will fine, you have no life before the story is at an end.

Start out, take a break from everything, and build yourself up to the point you feel you can do something.

All depending on just how bad it is, just drop one item at a time until you can keep your head above the surface; you are no use to anyone, if you colaps on the floor.

Once you can stand up, take one step at the time; you will be back sooner or later; just take your time.

For the story, make sure you enjoy witing before you put any time to it. Just as you said, rushing for a deadline is no service to anyone.

If you don't have all the suport you need, seek up what teels you can use; in order to get the product to your liking, even before you ask the few you have by your side on this endeavour?
