I have myalgic encephalomyelitis. · 9:13pm Sep 10th, 2020
For the past six months, I've been unable to work or write much. Now I know why.
Mood.
I have an illness called myalgic encephalomyelitis or "chronic fatigue syndrome" (ME/CFS). This blog post talks about what that is, and what it means for my future.
Like the myofascial pain I get in my teeth, the cause of ME is unknown, it is not visible on the surface, and it may or may not go away someday. It's possibly an autoimmune disease, and it often appears after a prolonged illness (I was sick last Winter with bronchitis for several months). It's guessed that maybe one in four-hundred people have it, but the vast majority are undiagnosed. This is because it took doctors a long time to realize this is an actual thing that exists. More research is needed.
ME manifests as severe exhaustion that does not improve with rest, and sitting upright or standing makes it worse. In my case, it comes and goes throughout the day. Exertion also makes it worse, so I need to spend my spoons carefully.
In short, this sucks, though at least at present I don't have the severe form of the disease. There is, however, a Glimmer of hope. I'm finally being treated properly for ADHD. The uppers I'm titrating up may also help to manage the symptoms eventually. I might even be able to work again, though I worry a lot about that.
My next story is tangentially related, naturally. Wish me luck on completing it.
Thanks for your support and understanding, everypony.
I'm so sorry dude. Here's to the good news part though!
Well, at least you know what it is. Hard to manage a condition you don't know you have. Best of luck going forward, and here's hoping for some positive effects from your current meds.
*hugs* I'm glad that at least you know what is happening, Trixie. Good thoughts and positive vibes are on their way. Spend wisely and remember we're here for you!
I'm sorry that you have it, but it must be some relief to have a word for it. Hope the ADHD treatment goes well, I'm hoping for that too, someday!
well :C at least you know now
Adding my voice to the many hoping that knowing what you have helps. ADHD meds were a godsend for me and exhaustion so here's hoping they do good things for you too.
While that isn't good news, it's good to know what it is
I don't know if this helps, but my mom had CFS for a few years. She was still able to go to work (she's a teacher as well), but she was just checking the boxes in terms of the tasks she had to get done.
The fatigue just sort of gradually went away after a while. Not much else to do, unfortunately.
Now you know who you have to write about

No not you!

Perfection...
That sucks. I'm glad you are getting treatment for ADHD though. Best wishes.
Sorry to hear that, pardner.
Well, it had "some bad neurological shit" written on it.
(+) They excluded such amazing things as multiple sclerosis, oncology and infections.
(-) "Myalgic encephalomyelitis" as translated from doctor-speak means "some bad neurological shit"
"There is, however, a Glimmer of hope."
...Probably just a typo, but it resulted in me imagining Starlight bursting in through the door to save the day. :D
...Sorry you presumably don't actually have magical unicorns physically coming to your rescue, though. Glad you have what the hope actually is, at least. :)
Good luck indeed with that story and in general! At least you have some more information now?
And you're welcome, and I hope worries about us can be providing not too much more burden on you.
Welp, at least it's "official" now. I can imagine that this would provide some relief, as unpleasant as the situation may be. Wishing you to get well is probably not an option, so I'll wish you to get better and a plentiful supply of spoons instead.
Best of luck, and here's to the Glimmer..
Things will get better and remember you have people here for you

Not a typo.
And magical unicorns have come to my rescue many times.

Ah. :D
Aye, I thought they probably had in one way or another; I specified physically for a reason. :)
...Mind you, in the very-highly-improbable-seeming event that they actually have done that too, well, presumably there's quite and interesting story there. :D
But I am glad you've had their less standing-right-there help. :)
Here's hoping here hoping things get better
Oh geez. I honestly hadn't heard of ME/CFS before, but I hope it gets better for you. :/
