There's this idea I've been developing off and on for several months. Bit of a screwball Oversaturated World comedy/world building exercise, meant to be harmless fun... Except it centers around a character getting sick.
So, court of public opinion time: Shelve Future Congestive for the time being or go forward with it? For the record, it's a rhinovirus.
There's been multiple stories explicitly about the coronavirus in the featured box in the last week. A story you already had planned about a much less serious disease sounds fine to me.
I’d say go for it.
I think you should be fine.
It might be helpful to tell people that the subject is a coincidence and no offence is meant in the description, but otherwise you should be fine.
That said, given this is MLP/EG/OS, I would be disappointed if a rhinovirus does not actually make you turn into a rhino.
Go for it. Comedy can get away with anything. The Mardi Gras parade in Brazil had skeleton doctors right after the Spanish Flu hit, after all. I had originally planned short story about one of my foal characters getting seriously sick, but I stopped as soon as this all happened. Too serious.
Just make us laugh and I’m sure no one will be mad.
Well now I want to know more just from the title. Although I'm already disappointed since I doubt anyone is going to sprout a rhino horn.
Seriously, though, I agree with the others and say go for it. So many people are tense over what's going on that having something close to laugh at would probably help relieve a bit of tension.
If you want to make it more blatantly pony related, you could change it to a Hippovirus? As long as the ending isn't grimdark, I'd think everyone would love it.
So what you're saying is, it only affects those with horns...
I dare say it should be fine, at most with a little notice like 5223648 said.
Go for it, it’s fine.
Go for it. We can use a laugh in this time.

There’s a play about that

For all you jokers out there, "rhino-" means "nose" and "-ceros" means "horn" so the animal in question is named almost hilariously literally.
go for it

Appreciate the thought, but I am aware of that - twas more a joke about the high levels of magic in this world than about the name.
A RINOvirus - Respiratory In Name Only.
It turns you into a draconequus.
I have a bit of a soft spot for sickfics. And as far as I’m concerned, a talented author like yourself can do no wrong. Go for it!
Eh, go for it. I’m curious as to the effects of Rhinovirus... And whether there’s Giraffevirus.
Meh. Put it out.

... Well, between rhinoceros, rhinovirus, and rhinoplasty, I never made that connection before. So, I learned something new, and feel silly for not realizing sooner.

Hey, don't feel bad. It was only earlier today when I noticed that Israel uses the same "of God" suffix as archangel names.

Thanks. Learned something new.
I think it's fine, FoME. If you're comfortable publishing it, that's cool, I think most of your audience will appreciate it. If it would feel better to wait, though, that's also OK. Whatever works best for you.

Not "of God," just "God." "El" is both one of the names of God in Hebrew and a generic word meaning "deity." Ditto for "eloah" and its plural form "elohim," which all be used to mean God or god(s) with a lowercase 'g'.
Using the anglicized forms here, giving the translations of the Hebrew originals. I put the word "is" in brackets because Hebrew almost never uses the present tense of the verb "to be."
Israel: God contends (This is the hardest of the lot to translate, IMO. The meaning is much less clear than the others.)
Michael: Who [is] like God
Uriel: My light [is] God
Gabriel: My strength [is] God
Raphael: God healed (or possibly: God's healing)
Azrael: God helped (or possibly: God's help)

Well, I think I can call this question well and truly answered. Expect the story some time in the next few days.
Don't worry about it FOME. We trust you
