Bad Dragon

I write so that one day I may finally stop writing and be free, but these damn new ideas keep finding ways into my brain. I need to write more to vent them out!

How original are my stories? · 4:19pm Sep 16th, 2019

How original are my stories? Here's how they rank based on the MLP—originality scale:

Fully canon. All characters and locations are from the show, comics, or other official media. The plot and lore are based off of official episodes, often times with minor changes.

Mostly canon. Characters and locations are still canon, but the story itself focuses on things that MLP itself might not have much content in, such as an increased focus on magic systems, or certain species, for example. The plot may often tie in with episodes for parity.

Coronation Matters

Somewhat canon. OCs are used, though are often based on background characters. Most of the time, the main character is a canon pony. Some original settings may be introduced, but are based heavily on existing locations. Lore and plot tend to still relate somewhat to official media.

Trixie, My Pet

Kinda canon. Increased emphasis on OCs, with OCs sometimes being main characters. Canon characters and settings are used just to tie together more original sections of the story, acting as sort of in-betweens between characters, or meeting points, respectively. Canon locations are often used as landmarks for reference, and while lore remains mostly rooted in canon media, the plot may wildly differ from anything seen in episodes or comics.

TForget Love
Despite being stripped of everything, the pony finds his true love and is about to marry her.

That place between canon and original. OCs often outnumber canon characters and are commonly main characters. There are roughly an equal amount of canon and original settings used, and the lore, while still kind of rooted in canon, tends to have many bits and pieces added by the author themselves, such as more in-depth magic systems, or a deeper history of Equestria. The plot largely diverges from the episodes and/or comics and only references them every so often.

TI Ain't Your Sacrifice

Pretty original. OCs tend to be the central figures in the story, with canon characters only appearing when needed. Equestria's canon locations are referenced sparingly, with completely different and often foreign settings used instead throughout the story. Official lore and plot is mostly ignored at this point or is relegated to history as long-ago events of the past.

EKung Fury in Equestria
Kung Fury gets zapped to Equestria, and one thing is for certain: This magical land of ponies is in need of some justice!

Very original. Canon characters rarely, if ever are even acknowledged. The canon plot of MLP either has been almost entirely ignored or has been cast away as long-forgotten history serving as an underlying basis for a much more fantastical world. Canon locations either do not appear at all or are different to the point of being practically original in comparison to canon.

Mostly original. Not even the mane 6 appear at any time. They are very occasionally referenced, but are practically a drop in a bucket compared to just about anything else in significance. Equestria itself is usually fundamentally different, whether it be in a different era of technology, a different time period, or otherwise nearly unrecognizable unless stated specifically. If it isn't mentioned, then canon locations are almost always either forgone completely, or in complete ruins. As for lore, forget about the show. The story's basically written by someone who's never heard of MLP outside of random quips from a friend.

So original that you had to force pony into it just to pass moderation. Not only are OCs common, but 50-75% of the time they aren't even ponies. The Princesses of Equestria are basically the final link to any canon characters. Equestria itself has either been completely annihilated or effectively just doesn't exist anymore. Lore and plot were probably recycled from an original fiction that the author was writing before they decided to make horsewords out of it.

Not allowed on Fimfiction. Ponies? What are ponies? What does MLP stand for? On, My Little Pony? Isn't that that one show that little kids and a buttload of teens and adults like to watch? Wait, what am I doing on this site? I should probably get back to writing my novel or something.

The Day to Forget

Trancended reality. You have created your own universe IRL and we are all just figments of your imagination. MLP is your own creation made to play the minds of hundreds upon thousands of people in your plane of existence.

i mostly read fluff but have tried to read other stuff i just inherently dont like death or trully dark themes yet in honesty my mind goes to some horrendously dark places i'd say you rated the gains a soul well it fits just goes in a different direction with lost mark and a few other things

I wouldn't worry about being original. Especially in this day and era. Most stories no matter what its about follows some tropes in some form or another. So it's kind of redundant trying to be original from other writers. So just keep writing story because you wanted to and just do your own thing and most of all entertain the readers.

5121942 You'll find nothing but darkness in my den. :moustache:

You're right about Sweetie Belle Gains a Soul. It does differ from the usual canon because of that. Maybe I really should drop it down a rank?

5121945 Everypony posting on this site should worry about originality. Nothing must be original, else you can't post it on this site.

need a story that is based on sweetie finding out what her pee is for preferably without rap unless she finds a dildo any you have read in the past i can't remember the name squeaky noises or something but it was very cute and naughty

5121956 So, basically you need a Sweetie Belle story with watersports in it?

5121950
Well, yes. However what I'm trying to explain and to the best of my ability is that. what you may have done in your story may have already been done by someone else in a different form from MLP, which is why I mentioned tropes. Everything you have done in your story has a possibility of following a trope category. All you have to do is go to TV Tropes.com.

I hope what I'm saying is understandable. I couldn't never tell in what I'm saying is correct or not.

5121964 Unless you don’t refuse to mind my hesitation of passing up the foiling of non-withdrawing dismissal versus the lack of the contrary against its void annulment by not rejecting the lack of absence of its reverse opposite, I would not undo my disagreement in that you couldn't never tell in what you're saying is correct or not. You don’t disagree, don't you not?

5121974
I suppose not. In all honesty I just say what's on my mind at the time of reading whatever blog or comments I read in the world icon. Read what you posted and just typed out my thoughts on the matter. I don't always have full confidence in whatever I typed at times. but never the less I do my best.

And I've read a lot of books and watched a lot of media of all genre since 1993 and so forth. So finding something interesting to read or watch can get a bit tricky for me. It just depends on how well the story is written by the author and Believe me, I have read my share of poorly written stories. including the one on this site, the numerous displaced stories the bad ones for the most part don't help matters. But I digress.

5121984 Your thoughts are always welcomed.

So, do my stories fit in the poorly written one's category or the interesting category?

5122000
Well you're the interesting category if only a little, I still find it quite an entertaining story listening to it with the audio reading feature this site provides while I'm working on my drawings or working on my story ideas and notes.

You got the skills you just need to keep going and keep improving as you go. Don't give up and just keep asking feedback that's an important part of being an growing author, friend.

5122004 Oh, thanks. You honor me.

I am kind of in a process of giving up writing, though. I don't think I've written anything worth mentioning in a year. The spark just isn't there.

5122039
Well, that's happens to every author even the big famous ones. For some they could write over a dozen or so stories before they finally find one that the audience take intrested in. Every writer has their beginnings. Like the one saying goes the Roman Empire wasn't built in a day. It takes time and a lot of hard work and perseverance before you finally make some major headway.

My father may god bless his soul, once told me just because you have fallen doesn't mean you fail, you only fail you don't get back up and keep moving forward and above all keep your head high and show no fear towards the unknown future ahead of you.

To me an author is not just someone writing stories for themselves and his/her family and friends, but for the entire audience. Keep writing your stories for them and hopefully a few or so within the crowd will be inspired by your story. Never lost hope.
