Twenty-two years. One thousand and eighty-two episodes. · 4:28pm Sep 15th, 2019

One tournament win.

...all things considered, with that kind of victory percentage, he should have just taken up golf.

And he's still ten years old.

Better late than never amirite? like way way late but still.

Jesus, has it really been 22 years?

And he's still ten years old.

I'm pretty sure that Ash has been undead since the first episode, propelled forward only by his thirst for victory. Now that he's finally won a championship, I expect his body to crumble to dust in a few days.

Damn I think I was ten when he lost the Indigo League the first time

I remember watching the first episode when it aired in the US.

I feel old...

still a better win rating than the local soccer team.

His thirst for victory and Brock's rice balls.

A moment on the lips, six seasons in your large intestine.

How does that one fan theory go? When he got in his first bike accident or the first time he got fried by Picachu he really got knocked into a coma and has been having one long fever dream ever since? I think I like that theory.

Why does his face look like it's been slowly melting off all this time?

5121471
"How old are you?"
"Ten."
"...How long have you been ten?"
"A while."

Ironically didn't they state on day 1 of Alola that he was 11 thus breaking that streak?

What? He's closer to being a Pokemon Master now.
Be positive! HE:
1) Beat the local Elite 4
2) Became the Alola Champion
3) Because there was no previous champion, now he is also the Region Champion!

Two belts in one! Plus, he'll lose all progress by the next series.

Christ, its beena running gag that he can do all sort sof things, but never win a single lousy tournament

5121481

Plus, he'll lose all progress by the next series.

Better yet: by the next series, he'll lose the show. There's a rumor that he's about to be retired from his role as main character.

5121471
my thiry is he found the founten of youth and he and Pikachu drank it all

5121476
There was another theory that when Ash saw Ho-oh in the very first episode—since apparently when someone makes a wish when they see it the wish comes true—he could have wished to be on his journey until he became a Pokemon master, and since he hasn't yet, he just relives being ten (now eleven???) until it happens. He could be reliving ten so that he goes through puberty early multiple times, which is why his voice changes when the voice actors do. :rainbowlaugh:

That face unsettles me.

He should play for the Jets.

5121494

But he's too young to have mono.

"Now, I know how upset you all are over our show being cancelled after nine seasons," said Twilight Sparkle from her position of authority next to the picnic basket.

"Actually," started Applejack, "it gives me some more time to spend at the farm, maybe start a family of mah own."

"And I've been running myself positively ragged!" exclaimed Rarity, slumping down on her nearby divan. "What with running three boutiques, teaching at the school, and all of the other responsibilities of proper leadership, I've been under such stress." She lowered her voice to a whisper. "I fear at any time, I might see... a grey hair."

"As I was saying," continued Twilight, waving one of Pinkie Pie's donuts for emphasis, "you're all upset!"

"Not that much," said Pinkie. "I get to finally date!"

"And I know how much you want our franchise to continue," continued Twilight despite the objections. "So I've taken measures--"

"As long as they don't take too long," said Rainbow Dash through a mouthful of crumbs. "I've got a Wonderbolts exhibition this afternoon."

"--to ensure the franchise lasts into the foreseeable future!" There was a rustling in the nearby bushes, and Twilight perked up. "Ah, there they are now."

"There they are!" a familiar young voice called from the bushes. "Pikachu, go!"

"Princess uses Teleport," announced Twilight just moments before there was a flash of purple light and she vanished.

Then the picnic was over as the red and white balls began to fly...

Hey, on The Simpsons, Maggie should be almost old enough to run for president &
Marge + Homer should be retired & on SS

5121476
More likely, it was when the Spearow flock went all Hitchcock on him. You know, because making the coma a result of his own stupidity is better for the kinds of people who write theories like that. Also, medical technology in the Pokemon world is total bull**** so the only way he wouldn't have woken up by now is if they simply aren't trying.

Didn’t Ash also win the Orange Island championship as well? Although that isn’t a formal league.

Officially speaking, the kid shouldn't have even been allowed inside the Punch Bowl. Of course, officially speaking, Berry didn't know how to tell human ages at a glance. Unofficially speaking, she knew he needed help in a glass and a sympathetic ear as much from maternal experience as from her talent. "Here you go, kid. Chocolate milk. Always helps Pinchy after a bad day. So, what's your story?"

The boy just stared at the countertop in a familiar way. Not the enthralled stare of a pony who'd found the meaning of the universe in a blend of alcohol, salt, and wood grain. No, this was the shocked gaze of somepony who'd run face-first into the impossible and didn't know how to deal with it.

"Take your time, kid." Berry started rubbing a glass with a dish towel. It was early enough that there weren't any glasses to actually clean, but she had to keep up appearances.

"It..." A shaking hand took the glass of milk. A bit slopped over the edge as the boy drank. "It was supposed to be simple."

Berry said nothing. She knew a slow-forming monologue when she heard one.

"It was supposed to be simple," he said again. "A new region. New ways to battle. New friends to make, new challenges to overcome. But something like her..." When he finally looked up, there were tears in his eyes. "I had finally broken my streak, you know?"

Berry also knew prompts. "Did you, now?"

He nodded. The arm not holding the glass cradled a memory. "Got the championship. Haven't won one since the Orange Islands, and that was... Never mind how long ago it was. It never really felt like it counted. I couldn't tell you why, but it just didn't. And it's not like I haven't done incredible things outside of the League, but... I'd broken my streak. Took home the gold. And then I wanted to see if I could start a new streak, you know?"

Berry nodded. She did know. She knew the allure of "Just one more" far too well. But she also knew it wasn't her turn to speak.

"I was going to go to Galar. Some weirdly picky immigration laws there, something about preserving the local ecosystem, but Pikachu could come with me, and he's all I've ever needed when starting out. But then the weirdest Rapidash I've ever seen—no offense, ma'am—comes out of nowhere and tells me about a place full of Pokémon no one's even heard of. I'd be the first. The best by default." He smiled, the weight of experience slipping away to reveal a childlike innocence that better matched his body. "How could I resist?" The smile fell. "But then..."

"Then?"

"He's gone. He's gone and this time I don't know if I'm ever getting him back."

Berry winced. Young as he sounded or old as he seemed, she wouldn't wish the kind of heartbreak in those words on her worst enemy. "Why?"

The boy's whole body shook, as much from fear as sorrow. "She's worse than every evil team put together. More powerful than the strongest legendaries. There was no stopping her."

"So, what's your favorite food?"

"Pika!"

Fluttershy blinked. "Ketchup?" She shook her head and smiled. "Well, I'm going to have to insist you have it on something, but I'm sure everyone at the sanctuary will be happy to meet you."

FINALLY.

(I'm still beyond salty about the Kalos League. Such bullshit.)

Are all those episodes canon or at this point do most exist in a negative space wedgy, only brought out in the current series when the writers feel like referencing something specific in the past?

Two wins. The Orange Islands were a thing that happened, after all.

Wait, really? :pinkiegasp:
I think I drifted away from that show about the time Misty did

5121541
Fluttershy would never break up a pair like those two!

She'd adopt Ash as well.

5121471
5121475 There's no way Ash could be undead. Undead require far more energy than humans to power their blasphemous, lifeless frames. We never see him eat brains like a zombie or a ghoul, become rejuvenated with necromantic energy like most undead, and the only other energy type I've seen power an undead creature is Frankestein's Monster, so if Ash were actually undead he would need to carry around some kind of perpetual, portable..... electricity source.

:rainbowderp:

5121484
It's kind of about time he had some time alone. He's been doing this forever and it's time for someone else's journey to begin.

Tobias didn't deserve to win the Sinnoh League, just saying - you can't just show up out of nowhere looking edgy with a team of legendaries on you

Ash deserved better and this was it, well done lad - interested in seeing how the next series plays out, whether he'll be retired as an MC or he'll be delegated to a side character who still does gyms and shit but the main focus is on the new MC now

although considering this new series is supposed to be taking place in EVERY region, I don't know how the fuck they're gonna do that

I'm hoping he goes up an age instead of somehow travels everywhere in what the show seems to tell us is an entire year.

About damn time he got something also.

Cheers to hoping Brock shows up again. Even as a kid i loved that rock throwing, boss chef cooking, chick chasing gym leader

You know, I should feel a bit put out at the unmarked spoiler (as actually watching that unspoilered would have made my jaw drop so hard in defiance of expectation), but on the other hand, it does encourage me to actually make the effort go and watch Sun/Moon now.

(Well, let me at least finish watching Naruto first, I'm nearly done, only about... 47 episodes to go (have wya through volume 35 of the 38 DVDs, and it won';t be long before the final one is out. Yes, I HAVE only been watching as the DVDs come out, hush.)

5121471

No, Ash has died several times - more times than Optimus Prime as the proverbial staying goes, he's just so frack-damn hard he just fracking WALKS IT OFF[1]. His full name is never mentioned on screen, because his middle name (which he shares with Pikachu, actually) is Mother********. Death don't mean anything to the guy that invented THUNDER ARMOUR.

No, no, that totally happened, you can't pretend it didn't, and it was one the best, most hilarious moments of the entire show ever.

5121550

Yeah, that was painfully telegraphed.

I'm not sure that Unova wasn't worse, because as sucky as the Kalos tornament was... They stuck the landing with the climax, that was freakin' great!

And well, the clips of the tornament on Yotube were what got me to go back an catch up, as I'd left off when they changed the voice cast, Coming back and starting at Sinnoh, after a lot of years made me able to enjoy it - Sinnoh, I think has the best arc to date.

Kalos was absolutely beautiful, but it just didn't quite match up.

I haven't yet looked at Sun and moon yet - partly becaudse the art style made my eyeglows twitch and partly because, after Kalod had tacitly made Ash actually feel like a veterna who aged, them officially and impossibly making him eleven annoyed the crap out of me.

I point to the episode oin the Orange League where Ash returned to Viridian City and said "I can't believe it's almost been a year since we were last here." Heck, is lit LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE for Ash to be eleven, as there were 935 episodes before Alola, and each episode is at LEAST a day (they always walk off into the sunset, don't they), which is the better part of three years; and that ignores the fact that some episodes were across multiple days and even that there was a lot of time off-screen (often spent lost!)

And if you say "well, maybe Pokémon years aren't the same as Earth-years" one, that's a really stupid thing to do to call them "years" then and two Ash was, in fact, never ten to START with.

It's also not just Ash, of course, since I do know Brock and Misty show up looking the same as ever in Sun/Moon.

YES, this all bothers me significantly.

[1]I mean, I'm pretty sure I observed as much somewhere at some point after watching I Choose You and him doing, like, again, but damned if I can find it at the moment (and it's a bit late to keep searching...) to actually see what I said.

I don't want to hock a loogie in the curry, but it's BS that Rowlett beat out Decidueye.

5121484
Don't make me start feeling hopeful for the series.

5121470
I know right? Does everything have to make me feel so freaking old?!!:raritydespair:

5121715
Ash saying it's "almost been a year" is apparently only in the dub, while the original Japanese only says it's been a "long time" or something to that effect. Doesn't change the fact that time has clearly past, but still.

Wait did he WON a league?:pinkiegasp:

Truly we live in apocalíptic times

5121626
Agreed the whole legendary team was a middle finger to the fans

5121826
It's only a middle finger to the fans in the sense that it's what the fans do in the actual games if you give them half a chance.

Comparing the new style to the old makes me cringe.

So... this is it for Ash? Or more adventures incoming?

"Ten-year old kid makes first official win in twenty-year career."

It’s still a better win ratio than the England football team. 1966...

You know what this means?

His dreams are being fulfilled.

Somewhere, in a hospital bed, a small boy's comatose brain is releasing its last reserves of dopamine into his system in order to prevent panic as he prepares to take those final steps into the Afterlife; the happiness he feels is his sick body finally letting go.

"It shouldn't be long now," the doctor tells the child's parents, as they sit at his bedside, eyes red from tears and bodies sagging in exhausted grief. "I'll leave you to say your goodbyes..."

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that Ash won a league, but the Alola league was underwhelming to me in comparison to any other league. Compared to the other regional leagues, those put up more of a fight for the title. Even the Orange Islands put up more of a challenge, and it was a minor league.

Like I said, congrats to him for winning. I just wish it wasn't THIS league that he won. I would've been fine with Sinnoh or Kalos, if anything he should've won Sinnoh by all rights, and I'm fine with him losing to Alain in Kalos because Alain was legitimately built up and had a legit Mega Evolution while Ash got a special form!Greninja exclusive only to him. Meanwhile, Alola rubbed me wrong from start to finish with the change in art style, Ash going to school instead of traveling the region, and Ash's personality change in general. That's not even getting into the damage the anime did to the game's plot by trying to copy Yo-Kai Watch's formula.

Congrats, Ash, but I maintain my belief that this is a different Ash than the one we followed from Kanto to Kalos. The Ash I know has grown to be at least sixteen by now, traveled through Alola with Lillie and Mallow, and won the title of Alola's first Champion through battles as intense as the ones in the Kalos league were.

It looks like Ash is going to be going to Galar after all, and I can only hope the show returns to form then.
