Tropical Storm Harvey Hits Home...Literally, Seriously, MY Home. -_- · 6:09am Aug 30th, 2017

Well, I had thought it wouldn't happen, but it did.

About a half hour ago, 40 minutes ago, somewhere in there, got a call from my aunt. She said there'd been an apartment fire and some other storm-related stuff near my neighborhood and that she bet my street was flooded. I got up to look outside and as soon as I set foot in my living room I set foot in water.

It had just started, was halfway across my living room.

I got off the phone and hurried to grab towels to block the door, some other stuff to spread out to soak up, etc, then I unplugged all my electronics and got the protectors off the floor. Everything around my desk is, or WAS, bone dry. The one my TV, PSes, and cable box are plugged into had already gotten wet. I dried it off after unplugging it and set it up high to dry. I'm in no hurry to plug it back in even though I need the TV for weather news.

I did improvise a way to get my PC back up and running...

There's still an hour or so more of rain to come. I can't go back to bed, but I can't do much of anything about the water that's already in here until it stops raining because there's not much you can do with a mop and a bucket. I have a Shop-Vac, but...same problem as all of the above.

I had really hoped I'd be spared any kind of...this.

At least it's not terrible. I mean, I've had worse from an overflowed toilet and from the vacant apartment next door springing a leak in the kitchen.

But damn...

I hope it doesn't get any worse! Good luck, and stay safe! (And if it gets bad, don't go into an attic where you could be trapped. Go on the roof instead and wait for rescue.)

How in the world is the water getting in there in the first place?

Hah! I live in a one floor apartment. The only place I can EVEN go is the bathtub.

Same way it gets into any house. Doors are not watertight.

I thought building things to code was to prevent stuff like this from happening. :applejackunsure:

Dude, you can't "prevent" 30 inches of rain.

To bad you don't have any sandbags, I've used them to block doors inside of a house before and they work great.
When everything is said and done and you are drying out the house go buy a bunch of the moisture absorbing/eliminator buckets from Home Depot/Lowes and place them all over the house they will make a big difference and help prevent mold from forming.

I put one in my friends truck after he left the window down in a rain storm and after 2 days it was nice and dry and was able to prevent mildew from forming.

Well, here is to hoping things get better.

Hope you and your family are safe. Hang in there. Hopefully it will get better soon

Damn...that sucks.

Fingers crossed for you and all the other Texans. There seems to be a bunch of FimFic folks over in that area effected to at least some degree.

Damn. This was a post I hoped I wouldn't see. Hopefully that is as bad as it gets for you. Good luck and Don't take any risks.

Fingers crossed for you. Here's hoping you've seen the worst of it.

Will be praying for you my friend.

Couple of bright sides; you're lucky enough to get that call from your Aunt and fast enough to minimize the potential damage.

Hopefully you and everyone else in the path of this storm will come out okay. I'm technically in the path but I live in Kentucky so.....you should know what it'll be by the time it reaches me. :applejackunsure:

Dang, stay safe, dude. Hope it doesn't get any worse ... and that you can get everything dried out without too much trouble afterwards.

Ouch. Good luck and stay safe.

Oof. Stay safe and dry, buddy. Hopefully it all turns out okay

Dang. I saw the radar last night and was wondering if you'd get any. :fluttershysad:

Everyone who has grown up down here should already know to keep an axe in their attic just in case. The problem is the millions of people who moved down without a real clue how to handle a hurricane.

Hope things better, Mr.Moth.:fluttershysad:

Ugh, that really sucks, especially with all the electronic equipment. Glad you're okay though, and hope that this is just the worst of it. :applecry:
