10,000 Words? Is That All You've Got to Give? · 9:43pm Aug 17th, 2017

It is fortunate that I joined the Authors' Cafe group a while back, otherwise I never would have seen Jongoji245's post about entering a Sunset Shimmer Shipping contest hosted by none other than Oroboro, who I stupidly failed to follow even after reading The Heart of an Author and Fractured Sunlight. This mistake has since been rectified.

So I'm a little over half a month late to this party, and when I first saw the contest existed my initial thought was "Yeah, I'll probably pass." Seven minutes later I had an idea... and suddenly I'm all in. Guess it's just my love of contests kicking in again. Or the shipper in me dying to get out. Maybe a bit of both. Either way, I've got myself a mini-project to work on for the next few days. My only problem is the 10,000 word limit, which I'm sure I'll bump up against. I'd complain, but I know it's probably meant more for the judges than the writers, and from the perspective of a reviewer I can't blame them for that limitation.

Of course, I'm gonna finish my redo of the ending of Bulletproof Heart's 8th chapter first. It's almost done anyway.

What's that? Reviews? Sorry, not today; it's my regularly scheduled break week. You just get to watch me ramble on about nonsense. Although I guess I'm done with that for now, but only because I gotta finish reading a chapter, get some writing done, and figure none of you are really interested in how the IRS just beat into me with the Stick of Government-Mandated Poorness (©2015). Have I mentioned how much I hated being an insurance salesman a few years ago? Yeah, that job sucked so much it's coming back to bite me even now.

If you don't mind, I'm gonna go now and drown my sorrows in pony-land... which coincidentally involves reading about the sorrows of others. Strange how that works out.

Horse jesus, Rod Stewart is still alive?! :pinkiegasp:

That joke is from more than seventeen years ago. Not even exaggerating.

I want, in the abstract, to enter this contest. I know there's no way I'm going to unless I can get Time Enough For Love out, and the chances of doing that before the end of the month are ... not what I'd like. :\

Glad it's fired up your muse, though!

I hope your story goes well. I've thought of entering but I don't have much time... which feels like it will be the epitaph of my 2017 at this rate. :raritydespair:

Wait... you're telling me that I get to judge you for a change? I don't know if I should laugh maniacally or cower in a corner. :rainbowderp:

I KNEW IT. You can't control yourself, can you? I was even tempted to let you know about the contest 2 weeks ago but I decided, You know what, he doesn't need yet another distraction. :rainbowlaugh:

Guess it's just my love of contests kicking in again.

It's a love-hate relationship for me.

Good luck with the fic!

Actually, the guy was still pretty energetic for his age. Couldn't bounce around like the 30-somethings of today, but still pretty active for a guy past 70.

Yeah, that's too bad. But my muse is definitely speaking to me about this one. The question is whether I can do it right.

Ick. Busy times are... well, not always the worst times, I guess. Depends on what's keeping you busy.

If I were in your shoes? Definitely go with maniacal laughter.

Actually, I'm kinda glad I'm getting into this with the contest halfway over. Back then I was fretting over where I was with my releases schedule, but today I'm over two weeks ahead. So yeah, thanks for not being an enabler. My addiction can find me well enough on its own.

Thanks!

Heh, I actually saw Rod a few weeks ago. Honestly a lot better than I'd expected. Gratifying to see someone else on here appreciating the classics.

Why am I not surprised in the slightest? :pinkiecrazy:
