And Now Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Program · 8:31pm April 25th

Finally got my desktop back on Tuesday. New case is a beauty, and the Ryzen 5800 is vastly superior to the 7yo processor I had before. Got a new liquid cooling unit; if you count the GPU then there are five cooling fans in this thing. It’s significantly quieter, the old build got so loud I had to wear headphones sometimes. All in all, I am very happy with the results, even if it took them thrice as long to do than they initially said. Been reinstalling programs gradually as it occurs to me what I’m missing. I’ll re-install Discord before too long and finally get around to sending Guppy Love to my pre-readers.

The one annoyance is that apparently some files got corrupted in the upgrade. None of my software files like savegames or whatnot are giving me any trouble so far, but I’ve noticed that several pictures in my image collection are messed up. I can still view them, but the colors are all warped. I’ll be gradually trying to replace them over time, usually as they pop up in my daily desktop roulette, but some images tend to be harder to find than others. For example, I’ve got this one picture of Fluttershy standing atop what appears to be a WWII fighter plane – or a bomber, it’s hard to say because of the corruption. I did some searches and so far I’ve got nothing (although you'd be surprised at how many pictures on Derpibooru feature both Fluttershy and airplanes). I may do some blogs later on where I show some of my corrupted fics and ask if anyone knows where to find replacements.

In other news, my writing has been going at a decent clip. For April so far I’m averaging around 1.4k/day. Which is unfortunate as my goal for the month is 1.5k/day, but even so it’s still a good pace. I’d have to write another 10k to hit my total target for the month, and honestly? I don’t see it happening. If I wasn’t going to visit my parents this weekend then I could pull it off, but what kind of uncle would I be if I didn’t try to see Evy-chan for the brief time she’s in the States? Besides, my parents have made it clear that my arrival gives them a much-needed break. So yeah, I’ll probably be short this month. A pity.

That’s all I’ve got for today, folks. Come over next week for villainous Luna, the Applejack Wars, and Stronghoof teaching Marble Pie a lesson.

Don't forget to create a recovery drive. The price of a thumb drive beats another trip to the shop.

Now that really makes me wonder what exactly went down to have that result.

I'm amused that the two items in my feed today both have that in the title. (The other is by TCC56.)

Nani the what? What in the world happened? You didn't happen to get your memory storage units upgraded in the process, did you? That is just beyond weird. Google image search is actually pretty good at locating things like that, even from parts of images. You might give it a try. You got a new case with fans and probably RGB and didn't post pics of your battle station? Bruh.

My whole PC has been watercooled for a long time and I've got two ridiculous 200mm fans on the front of the case that really don't do much anymore, but are fun to look at. When you say liquid cooling unit, do you mean an all in one that just goes over the CPU like this? Or is there a whole water loop in your rig now like so? Either way, that should help a lot, so long as there's no weird memory leak in your programs. I recently had my computer deal with that and end up overdrawing power until the outlet couldn't sustain it anymore. Nothing wrong with the PC or anything, but it was very annoying.

I think I have an external hard drive lying around somewhere, come to think of it. It was intended for backup purposes but I forgot all about it. I'll have to look around and see if I still have it, and if so, if it still works... although I can't think of any reason it wouldn't.

No clue, I'm just dealing with the aftermath here. So far it only seems to have affected image files though.

Great minds think alike, I suppose.

I tried using image searches on Google and Bing. They return white, as though the computer can't see the images at all. Which is weird, because how can the monitor be showing me the color-ruined image if the computer itself can't see the image in the first place?

The first one. The second one might look a lot cooler, but it also obviously takes up a lot of space, and I might want to use that space for something someday.

My previous PCU was liquid-cooled that way as well, but it only had one small fan in the back. Which always struck me as a bad place for a fan, seeing as that's the part facing the wall and it seems like that would make a difference in how well the fan does its job. This new LC unit has two much larger fans facing the front, and I'm already a lot happier with it. (There's still a fan in the back though.)

Oh, I'm sorry, did you want to see what a computer looks like? :trollestia:

I can take a picture, though it will require some rearranging. The position of the desktop relative to my desk/monitors means that said desk and monitors are in the way of any image of the interior I might offer. It's kind of disappointing, really; it does come with an RGB element but it's pointless because of where the desktop sits. I either need a bigger desk (the three monitors take up all the space) or some extension cables to put the desktop itself further away.
