Canada Day and weird Canadian bands · 2:54pm Jul 1st, 2017

Hey all, first off, Happy Canada Day! Cuz c'mon who doesn't love a plucky little country who manages to not be absorbed by the blob that is the USA.

Secondly, have you ever thought that your country has the lock on weird bands and songs?

Well, even if you haven't here's Canada's entries. Including toon band Prozzak, our answer to Hanson The Moffats, and a group of guys singing about oral sex to a minor.

Find them all here.

I can unironically admit I listened to most of these bands and liked almost all of them. I wasn't as into the rap artists, but I liked alll the others. And I still like Our Lady Peace

Dude, I have a Prozzak album. XD

the MAPL system

Your country is adorable!

Thanks for sharing this. Get Down is freakin' ridiculous. I'm definitely gonna have to check out the others now

Is it just me, or is "No Means No" kinda like the rapiest version of Canada Nice? :unsuresweetie: Like, "Yes, babe, I will take no for an answer—but only on the fifth try."

Also, I thought Our Lady Peace were legit rock stars, not just Canadian local stars. I guess maybe I had a weird 1990s.

ETA: Also also, big shout out to one of my all-time favorite YouTube video titles, thanks to that list—"Superman's Dead (US Version w/o Clowns)".

Ever seen Un Bolle de Castors?

Prolly not, they're kinda underground :coolphoto:

Such things aren't that surprising, since a country turning 150 is the national equivalent of an elementary school graduation. I expect the nation will reach full maturity in, oh, a century or two.

Apropos of music, it's time for my yearly ritual, the Playing of the Song That Would be the Anthem if I Were in Charge.

4588809 this is still one of my favorite songs of all time

>not being absorbed

Hey, third times the charm <3

4588783 I think if I look I still have their first two albums. The third album they totally changed their sound and got creepy weird.

4588809 How can you pick just one of his songs? Man was a goddamn legend.

Yeah, that third album was a shame. c.c

Canada Day? You mean how you guys celebrate the 4th of July a few days early, so Detroit can have 2 evenings of fireworks?

Anyway. Lately I've been listening a lot to Random Request. They're a transhumanist band that plays songs in the 20KHz-40HKz range. You probably haven't heard them.

Yeah, I gotta agree that Home for the Rest is a perfect conclusion so! :pinkiehappy:

Thanks for the list, Happy Canada Day to you, too, from Winnipeg!

Yeah, Prozzak's third album was terrible, very against the direction of the light pop band they were before. Kinda like Eve 6's third album being totally different and sucking hard, though they did bring it back wonderfully for their 4th.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

Your love of Our Lady Peace makes you OFFICIALLY COOL.

... although you were before, so this is a DOUBLING OF COOL.

Clumsy. That is all.

Oh yeah: 1/2 Crown Royal maple, 1/2 Bailey's

That's a French Toast

I like Our Lady Peace, too! At least one or two of their songs got some airplay in Southernmost Vancouver California.

Moxy Früvous was an accidental discovery for me many years ago. Loved their quirky music and sound, hate that it's all tarnished now.

Still, there's Great Big Sea. And the Arrogant Worms!

4590782 I'm so annoyed. They're doing two concerts this summer and I'm going to miss both of them darnit!
And yeah, I feel the same. I had their first album on cassette tape when I was a kid. CBC got pretty tainted too for a while there. :twilightoops:

Shall you be gracing us with your presence at BC again this year by chance?

4591376 Hurray! Can't wait to see you again.
