    Chapter 56 Promo!

In an isolated, abnormally large, hollowed-out tree might not be the typical abode for megalomaniacal n'ere-do-wells. Though, there was a reason both of them had opted for current accommodations over the typical kingdoms and castles, in one form or another. The area was absolutely inundated with dark magic. From the eerie glow that some of the plants gave off, to traces of black aerenth crystals

Wow, they are lovely. It's amazing how much a fictional world can expand.

To be honest, I'd be more interested in the history of the Mako Empire, than in the individuals. Though I suspect that the future material will give us the history as exposition in the story.

Mako Island...Moon Pool... Has someone been watching H2o: Just Add Water?

Wow, Faith really knows how to draw lovely female characters because the Siren Royal Family looks beautiful. Thanks for the expanded universe.

3865026 my sister used to watch that.

*Reads relations* Hmm...so the sirens are royal blood? Interesting...

They look beautiful :raritystarry:

This doesn't really say anything about Mako island, only about the original royal house.

"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever."
-Jacques Yves Cousteau

That alone describes the beauty of these mermares. :raritystarry:

3865026 Actually no, never watched it, though I am aware of the series. The moon pool is a nickname for a sinkhole spring I know of that connects to the ocean via underwater caves. Figured if one was marine and wanted a secluded spot, that be a good place. As for Mako island, it is something else mer related I mined off of, but it's pretty obscure (and intentionally bizarre). Though fact it fits H2O is a neat coincidence. I already included a reference to 'Splash' so if I find stuff that fits from any series I'll use it.

3865304
Maybe that's why the title is the "Founding Royal House"?

3865364 Nailed it~ :raritywink:

3865069
Oh she's amazing with these sort of things! Came out looking great!

3865237
At least half royal, yes.

3864939 Indeed. This post was mostly just to show off the awesome character design by Faithy and give some more bites of information

3864917 Benefits of a world I suppose. If one can't grasp all that's on our world, how are we got run out of things to add to a fictional world?

3865395
This is what I love about this story Tarb. What starts out at first glance is a simple crossover of unusual proportions, but both sources expand this universe in unseen directions for both sides. Again, I keep comparing this to Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, but that's what makes this so epic. The Nostalgia Critic once said that probably the best thing about the Prequels (PLEASE DON'T KILL ME) was the addition of it's own mythos in the Opera House scene of "Darth plagueis The Wise" in Revenge of the Sith, because it expanded the universe in the movies without it something as exposition like Obi-wan did, and you're doing the same thing, with characters that haven't gotten the spotlight that much.

3865394 the Title says , "MAKO ISLAND & Reef founding Royal House"

3865394

If she's reading this blog, she's so awesome!!

So assuming Amalgam is the name for this universe the Bridge is set in.

Is there a meaning behind that word?

3865526 Amalgam means mixture. This universe has so many franchises inside it. My Little Pony, Godzilla, Gamera, Pacific Rim, and many more.

3865475 Because the name of the region the capital is on is "Mako Island and Reef". The capital is BOTH the island and reefs surrounding it. It's like if I posted info on the Equestrian founders and titled it, "Canterlot Mountain Founding Royal House"

3865558 Ah, okay I'll take that as an explanation.

3865526 More or less. Others can just call it "Bridge'verse". I use Amalgam'verse because to varying extents as I patched holes in the canon and knit stuff together, the crossover became an amalgamation of different influences, stories, and canons. It's more evident with Terra, given that world is a mix-mash of all Godzilla continuities with other kaiju properties and myths, but with Equestria there were some expansions based off pre-existing canon with some fanon additions.

As is normal for Faith, all three are lovely in their own way; although truth be told, I prefer the comparatively simple elegance of Hymnia over the excessively fancy finery of either her sister or their mother, but that's just my personal preference.

I am still wondering, what (or who) did the sisters chose as the father of their daughters? I keep trying to think of a unique (or semi-unique) equine that would have been available pre founding but not in modern times, but of the ones I know of, the only beings that haven't been eliminated yet are the one Umbrian that is known to have taken on a corporeal form (Sombra) or Discord. Neither of whom I see as likely to choose to "get it on" with any mare.

Unless part of the unspoken scandal surrounding the two is the use of a song with effects in line with the "Want It, Need It" spell (a "Ravish Me Now, Dammit" song?), I don't see how either of those two would be candidates.

Unless of course, they manages to seduce a non-equine...

3866064 Well, they could have had foals with Kirin, who are technically reptillian equines, unless its stated that they are "dragon" -deer in which case cervides. Or they could have had foals with Sea-serpents, there are a lot of sentient species, who knows.

Also in this continuity, Sombra is a Crystal Unicorn Noble who was angered with the Queen for polluting their purity by having foals with a Pegasus. Although to be fair the canon for the Amalgam'verse could be that Umbrian's are merely a tribe of ponies that oppose the Crystal Tribe and used dark magic. It would put a different spin on things by having Sombra being one of those tribe's descendants.

3866092
Using the one example given so far, Kirin are clearly cervides. Also, the description of Mermares states they mate specifically with Equines.

As for Sombra... it depends on if the FIENDship is Magic comics are considered cannon.

3866472 Okay, I had to relook up the Mermare blog and reread that. So.....what equine could produce sirens rather than a mermare? (I consider Sirens to be a true hybrid species) Obviously the Sisters slept with equines of the same species, although Melpomene likely had both with the same male, due to frequently heading on shore leave to explore the surface. Little Mermaid anyone?

As for FIENDship is Magic, well will have to wait and see from Tarb.

3866472 Because Sombra's origin was already alluded to before FIENDship's issue for him came out, it's the only one I'd have to say outright isn't canon and it pains me to say that. At the least, it's not strictly. I'm still trying to figure out how I can rework stuff to make it fit in more or less, but as it currently is Bridge!Sombra was a unicorn became sort of a dark magic monster via mutation with black arts. How I'm to fit the umbrum in is still up for debate.

(And admittedly, as much as I liked FIENDship's Sombra issue and its sequel in the regular comics, I did find a lot to dislike too. Radiant Hope was a nice character, but by god in the sequel she was a complete moron imho.)

Ever try to go to sleep with a question half on your mind, and have an answer hit you just in time to keep you from falling asleep? I was wondering what the sisters could have slept with to produce the Sirens that no mermare would have slept with since. Then I remembered an equine race that, for cultural reasons and protracted hostility dating back to the age of the Siren's birth, would avoid sleeping with mermares, and reliably recognize a mermare for what they are. So now, I must ask... what do you get if a mermare mates with a seapony?

3866751 A mermare, or a seapony depending on if its a boy. I'd imagine crossings between the two are incredibly rare, due to sheer size difference (seaponies are about half the size of mermares and terrestrial equines), but they probably have happened somewhere. And recall that relations between the mermares and seaponies only occurred at one point and the two were neutral towards each other for all the time prior. They've also rekindled relations lately thanks to the Mane 6. If Seapony + Mermare = Siren, then we would have expected their body to have been sirens before Adagio and company were born, and in the modern day with newborns.

Sorry, but nope; Adagio, Aria, and Sonata's fathers are something else.

3866826
Don't apologize; it was a half-formed idea from a quarter-awake mind. Plus, half the fun of finding out is learning what else a mermare could be like.

That said, a hint would not be unappreciated to narrow things down a bit. After all, I think we've gone through almost all the cannon equines, unless I missed something, which leaves non-cannon species, unique beings, or a non-equine parent. I suppose the parent could have been a centaur or a hybrid between an equine and non-equine species, but otherwise I'm running out of ideas here.

I don't know of any special qualities of Donkeys and Mules that may qualify, but since in real life Mules are sterile, that just leaves Donkeys to consider.

I don't want to be rude, but there is a way to have Hope and the Umbrium in the story all you have to do is fiddle with it. The Crystal Heart, is after all a defense mechanism and a weapon.
Instead of the Umbrium being monsters similar to Windigos they could be an ancient tribe of ponies who opposed the Crystal Tribe and fought with them over territory. I guess it would be like the Sith. The tribe focused on hatred rather than love. After many battles the tribe was imprisoned due to a trap set by the Crystal Tribe. It's quite possible that books were taken by the Crystal Tribe in order to learn the Umbrium Tribe's strengths and weaknesses should they ever get out. With time the Umbrium were forgotten and the books left unintentionally in the library. Where a young Unicorn discovers them one night while studying with his friend Hope.

So, I started looking up creatures that could be the father species of the sirens. Although I'm thinking that maybe it was a kaiju transformed into an equine.
I can't seem to find a reptilian horse creature........

However, while searching I found other mythological equines:
Anggitay - Female centaurs in the Philippine culture, has a horn in the middle of their heads and is talented with/attracted to precious gemstones
hippalectryon - Half chicked, half horse: From snout to mid body horse, has wings, tail, and back legs of a chicken/rooster (Opposite of a hippogryph)

Hey!

Hey Tarb, my man!

Want to engage in a 20-40 post long heated back and forwards debate about the ethics of Mermares, with posts averaging at 300 words? Maybe this time I can almost imply that you're a Holocaust Denier in the heat of the moment!

That would be fun!

... I am of course joking. Mostly making fun of myself for letting that debate get as far as it did.

Anywho, nice! Is the Grandmother an immortal like Celestia? Or is Mako really that young of a kingdom?

Also, love the looks of the Sirens mothers! Though on the subject of the Sirens, I have to ask: does staying on the surface as long as they have do any psychological damage? Are there any Mermares who obsess over the surface like Ariel from The Little Mermaid?

3869474 I'm not Tarb, but it says in the bio the grandmother died 10 years before the founding of Equestria and that she lived for 386 years. In the previous mermare blog it said the Mako nation was founded before Equestria.

3869474 Saying this even as you say your joking. Don't beat yourself up too much. What's happened happened. You were feeling very strong about a subject and felt you needed to go on the offensive about it. You apologized already, so don't feel bad okay? :raritywink:

To answer your question, I refer you to the dates given. The Mako queendom was established decades before Equestria was unified under the Pony races. The original queen herself was long lived, over 350, but not immortal per say. Most mermares have a lifespan longer than your normal pony, so she easily could have lived to 400 had she not died abruptly.

As for your "Terrestriaphiles", I'd say yes but they are an extreme minority. Unlike the Disney merfolk, Equestrian Mermares can go on land so the 'mysterious allure' Ariel had over it wouldn't be a factor. Some may go on for various reasons for up to weeks at a time, both on Mako's landmass and Equestria's shores. It just be the rare, 1 in a million mermare who wants to stay permanently.

3869844
Yeah, feel kinda stupid for missing the part that said "Died". :twilightsheepish:

Also forgetting that the Siren's were banished 1000 years ago (like everything else), so of course their family lived far in the past.

Still, you guys didn't answer one of my questions: Would there be any psychological damage caused by staying on the surface as long as the Siren's did?

3870260 Hmmm no, I wouldn't say so. They'd just have to be real careful about still returning to the water at least ever so often and keeping their charm charged.

Love the designs. Did Melpomene and King Caesar cross paths at any point?
