I Don't Always Read the Comics but, When I Do, They Feature Twilight and Spike

Dear Loyal Watchers, Interested Visitors, and Confused Passersby,

First, let me start off by saying how much I've appreciated the support and compassion of so many people during my long, long recovery. I'm most grateful, and it has been a bright spot for me as my long weeks of isolation here in my home have slowly gone by.

Summer Ends: The Finale of Gravity Falls

Dear Loyal Watchers, Interested Visitors, and Confused Passersby,

Every once in a while I get to stand an applaud as the credits roll to a television show. Futile, of course, as I'm the only one there to hear it, but I do it because it deserves to be applauded.

This evening was one of those nights.

New Comic: "Away" · 2:50am Jan 8th, 2016

Dear Loyal Watchers, Interested Visitors, and Confused Passersby:

Stainless Key and I have just finished a new collaboration—which is to say that she finished making the vision that we shared come to pass. This time, it was Key's turn to come up with the concept... and boy, was it a Duesy!

Pictured: A "Duesy," for your convenience in comparing/contrasting superlatives.

Key asked a very basic question: What could happen while Twilight was away that would make her return to find... well, that would be telling. I think I'll let the comic speak for itself. I hope you enjoy.

Stay Awesome,

Truly touching, but it's surreal to see that much pony merchandise in Equestria. While the gut punch was expertly delivered, I still found myself wondering if the Mane Six are getting a cut of the profits.

Wonderful little comic there, but surreal in a way and very sad for Spike :(

Nice comic, if only there was a similar episode for the show... Oh well, not all dreams become realities. :fluttercry:

Dammit, the show needs Spike to grow up. Make him a teenage dragon or something, but give him more character.

... It may have been the exceedingly rough day I've had, but that genuinely brought me to tears.

We may have gotten a partial Twilight and Spike episode in 'Castle Sweet Castle' with the two of them out and about, but... it wasn't enough. Very much not enough.

damn man, that's a real tear jerker.

Great comic! Made me really sad. :fluttercry: I often wonder what Twilight expects Spike to grow up to be. Won't his dragon nature compel him to just the exact fate depicted here?

The stuff not considered in kids shows.... :ajbemused:

That was a great read. I enjoyed it.:pinkiehappy:

The visuals conveyed the emotion beautifully. I don't know if that could have been done in words.

That hits me...

That hits me here :fluttercry:

~myrtylbro

It's good, really good and sad seeing Spike's idea of what could happen.

Well done!

What a beautiful car! :pinkiegasp:

Ya might want look into some PST counciling for Spike, there, Twi.

...

...

Actually... considering the apparently relative competance with regard to dragions of other medical professinals maybe you shouldn't...

Thanks for taking the time to give it a read, Shadow.

3671635
I concur. That's what we have fan works for, to fill in where the canon leaves us wondering.

3671653
I will certainly concur that we haven't seen nearly enough of Spike and Twilight just having a day together. I'm glad that the comic brought you some feels, Noble.

3671776
True enough. Sometimes I feel that we forget that, with all of the angst, drama, and shipping that we apply to the series that it is meant for nine-year-olds, and can not and does not carry the weight to deal with issues like this. Good thing for and and fan works, right?:twilightsheepish:

3671689
I'm glad that it was able to supply you with some emotions.

3671891
I'm glad that you enjoyed it, Case!

3671933
Key's vision for a work without dialogue really added a lot to this piece. I agree—it would not have been as successful with text.:twilightblush:

3671959
Then it has fulfilled its purpose.

3672049
I'm glad that you feel that way, Ly.

3672184
I don't know if they have the expression "It's a Duesy!" in your neck of the woods Key, but a Duisenberg was pretty much the top-of-the-line car in the States before the Great Depression. If it was the best, like a Duesenber, then it was "a Duesy"—like your idea for this comic. Which, as always, I was glad to flesh out for you.

3672219
Yeah, some ginger ale and some quiet time aren't going to solve this one... :rarity despair:...

Well that got dark...

Spike conquering his loneliness didn't go so well, did it?

Welp. There goes my heart. Pierced by an arrow of feels. *Thump*

3672322 I had them before, I just don't use them much.

3672337 No, never heard about it before :twilightblush: Now I know. It looks magnificent, no wonder it represents good stuff :raritywink:

Impressive, it didn't even need words to convey its message

3672444
I guess that one of the things that bothers me about the series is how everything is wrapped up so tidily in 22-minute increments—well, unless it's a season opener or finale, then 44-minutes. Spike has a lot of potential issues, perhaps more than any other character, and I'm glad Key was able to give me an opportunity to explore that.

3672480
I hope your health plan covers cardio and "feels.":twilightblush:

3672815
That was Key's idea, and it came out well!

That was really sweet - at least the beginning and end. Telling a story without any dialogue can be tricky, but it was done well here. Being able to do so is a nice advantage of a visual medium.

Writing and drawing are different skills that are both needed to make a good comic, but is not always present in the same person. It makes me happy to we a good writer and a good artist collaborate like this - it's a bit sad to se people make comics with bad stories, spelling mistakes and nonsensical jokes when the art itself is good. Maybe if there was some good method of connecting writers with artists to more easily collaborate on comics...

3673689
Yes, agreed. One of the things that Key was looking for from me is a "writer's eye" for grammar and narrative. While the grammar didn't come into play as much here, I'm glad that I was able to assist in the construction of the narrative... both in this comic and the others we've been working on.:twilightblush:

Stainless Key came up with the concept? TD, you got competition.

I infinitely enjoyed this comic, I always loved Twilight and Spike's relationship for its complexity and its drama.
Sadly, most of the artists that want to deal with their problems usually focus only on the "Spike is always left all alone by Twilight" issue. Which is equivalent to ignoring all their problems and focus on an unfortunately popoular tendency to being lazy and forget about some main characters existence along the way. Or about their relationships with others... Or about the personalities and moral compass of other characters... *Grumble grumble*

So yes! I am really happy with this!

3674372
I'm very glad that you enjoyed the piece. Key had a fantastic concept, and I am glad that she felt that I could help bring it to life. Thanks a bunch for leaving me a comment!

Needs a sad tag :applecry:

I want to like it, but it gave me feels and now I has a sad (by which I mean I like it, and I like that it made me sad, but now I'm sad and I don't like being sad).

The artwork is lovely, Stainless, especially the second-to-last panel. That slays me. :fluttershysad: And it's really nice to read a comic that doesn't rely on dialogue. Not that dialogue in comics is a bad thing, but it's nice to use the visuals to their max.

I'll have to go find more of your collabs now.

I'm glad that you enjoyed this piece, and I hope that you'll enjoy our other collaborations as well, Ast.

I don't really know. I think we chose to portray it this way because the premise works best as a comic. But, then again, anything is possible.

Very adorable.

Thank you for saying so!
