I will confess to the fact that in 99.99% of every animated scene that I view (videogames or animated films, cartoons, etc.) is seen in a 3-D look to me. I have played videogames where you would fly an air vehicular (plains, etc.) and in the few simulators I have played, only one was played with a failure to judge the landscape correctly.

In other words, it is already 3-D to me, and making it look like paper mario would make it look bad ass, but it would lose a lot of value in worth of holding the watchers' interest.

Nah, but why would they want to do that? Even if it's "not", it still looks 3D in a way. I mean, it's pretty obvious what is in the background and what's more forward. And think about that amazing animated part in "Putting Your Hoof Down" when Fluttershy was all tied up and there was that touching part with the epic 3D-ish shot. I think the show is more than fine how it is.
