Without further ado, here's the latest Rule 34 statistics!

As of November 10, 2013, here's the state of Rule 34, according to Rule34.paheal.net:

Pokemon still holds the lead with 67,647 images. 1,696 new explicit images were added during October, giving Pokemon a 2.5% increase in porn from last month.

Touhou is in second place with 43,229 images. 438 new explicit images were added during October, giving Touhou a 1% increase in porn from last month.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is in third place with 40,852 images. 929 new explicit images were added during October, giving My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic a 2.3% increase in porn from last month.

DC Comics is in fourth place with 22,841 images. 338 new explicit images were added during October, giving DC Comics a 1.5% increase in porn from last month.

Street Fighter is in fifth place with 17,138 images. 360 new explicit images were added during October, giving Street Fighter a 2.1% increase in porn from last month.

Naruto is in sixth place with 16,707 images. 218 new explicit images were added during October, giving Naruto a 1.3% increase in porn from last month.

Marvel Comics is in seventh place with 16,339 images. 248 new explicit images were added during October, giving Marvel Comics a 1.5% increase in porn from last month.

Sonic Team is in eighth place with 14,471 images. 265 new explicit images were added during October, giving Sonic Team a 1.8% increase in porn from last month.

Digimon is in ninth place with 11,399 images. 119 new explicit images were added during October, giving Digimon a 1% increase in porn from last month.

Idolm@ster is in tenth place with 10,395 images. 3 new explicit images were added during October, giving Idolm@ster a 0.02% increase in porn from last month.

Pokemon dominated the field this month by generating more new porn than Touhou and My Little Pony combined!

This huge surge is due to Pokemon X and Y being released on October 12, 2013. In my February Rule 34 update, I mentioned that X and Y would help to stoke the fires of the already prodigious Pokemon porn production. Artist were busy churning out explicit drawings of the new Pokemon in the days and weeks following the game's release.

Many fans were disappointed to learn that X and Y only included 69 new Pokemon. It should be noted that this number excludes the new "Mega Pokemon," which are basically just super forms of a small group of Pokemon from previous versions. The number of new Pokemon may increase with downloadable content, but as of this writing, here are all the new additions in X and Y.

Just for perspective, here's how many new Pokemon were included with the previous versions:

Generation 1 - 151
Generation 2 - 100
Generation 3 - 135
Generation 4 - 107
Generation 5 - 156
Generation 6 - 69
Total Pokemon - 718

For the first time since January of 2012, My Little Pony failed to generate more than 1,000 explicit images. With only 929 Rule 34 pictures being added, October 2013 was a bad month for pony porn. To those who are feeling disheartened, remember that creative expression is filled with peaks and valleys. While October 2013 may have placed My Little Pony at its lowest production point in nearly two years, July 2013 helped MLP to break the record for the most productive month of new porn by any series since the premiere of Friendship is Magic. The 2,751 new images added during July 2013 were partially due to the theatrical release of Equestria Girls, which premiered the previous month. Think of this current lull as the calm before the porn. I expect My Little Pony Rule 34 will see a dramatic increase in the months following the season four premiere of Friendship is Magic.

Now that we've gone over the monthly update for the top ten porn producers, it's time to analyze the latest data regarding Rule 34 images for the mane six.

As of November 10, 2013, here's the state of Rule 34 for the mane six, according to Rule34.paheal.net:

Twilight Sparkle  has 6,068 images. 177 explicit images were added during October, giving her a 3% increase from last month.

Rainbow Dash :rainbowdetermined2: has 5,304 images. 147 explicit images were added during October, giving her a 2.8% increase from last month.

Fluttershy :yay: has 4,572 images. 118 explicit images were added during October, giving her a 2.7% increase from last month.

Pinkie Pie :pinkiehappy: has 4,553 images. 102 explicit images were added during October, giving her a 2.2% increase from last month.

Applejack :ajsmug: has 3,920 images. 111 explicit images were added during October, giving her a 2.9% increase from last month.

Rarity :raritystarry: has 3,860 images. 103 explicit images were added during October, giving her a 2.7% increase from last month.

It should be noted that both Fluttershy and Applejack managed to retain the higher positions which they both earned last month. Just for a contrast, here's a recent look at the total number of images for the mane six on derpibooru.

These numbers reflected MLP Rule 34 trends until very recently. Pinkie Pie and Rarity may have more total images than their rivals, but Fluttershy and Applejack have a higher percentage of porn.

Congratulations to Twilight Sparkle, who now has more than 6,000 explicit images!

Special thanks to Infinion, who made these amazing graphs of the data I collected.

To start off with, here's the master chart of the top ten Rule 34 producers.

This chart represents more than three years' worth of Rule 34 data. In order to more closely examine the numbers, Infinion has broken the data into more manageable semi-annual charts.

To get an idea of how far My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has come since its premiere, here's a chart highlighting the monthly numerical and percentage increase of MLP porn.

For those who desire a more consolidated look at the raw data, here's the numbers for the top ten porn producers, as well as their monthly increase.

Now let's take a look at the Rule 34 stats for the mane six. Here's their master chart.

In order to discover what these numbers mean, we'll need to delve deeper. In order to do that, we'll break down the data into semi-annual chunks.

For those who desire a more consolidated look at the raw data, here's the numbers for the mane six, as well as their monthly increase.

Season four of My Little Pony is almost upon us, so I thought I would take the time to provide a retrospective of the last two episodes from season three... which first aired nine months ago. I stopped doing season three recap blog posts after Just for Sidekicks because I was too stymied by the drama surrounding alicorn Twilight to properly talk about the last two episodes.

Now seems like the perfect time to play catchup, so let's have a double header retrospective of Games Ponies Play and Magical Mystery Cure.

Games Ponies Play could be an allusion to the television series Games People Play, which aired on NBC during the early 1980s.

Games Ponies Play is a unique experiment for MLP, in that the narrative runs parallel to the storyline of another episode; Just for Sidekicks. Whereas the former narrativ focused on Spike curtailing his cavalcade of cumbersome critters, the latter story revolves around the mane six in the Crystal Empire.

Watching Games Ponies Play for the first time was really confusing because it opened with a scene from Just for Sidekicks. I was watching online and when I saw a scene I recognized from last week's episode and assumed that something had gone wrong with the feed. Most places which streamed new episodes online would play previous episodes prior to the premiere of a new one. Instead of thinking that I was watching a new episode, I assumed that the person streaming had messed up and was playing a portion of the previous week's episode. So I exited the stream and began to frantically search for another one to join. After finding a new stream, I realized that a scene had been recycled. I wonder how many other bronies made a similar mistake during the premiere of Games Ponies Play?

Other notable mentions from this episode include the appearance of Rainbow Dash's father. This opened the door for a whole slew of new fanfic ideas, including a collaboration I was involved with.

Rainbow Dash's complaint about Cloudsdale not being allowed to host the games has been scrutinized several times within the brony fandom.

That being said, it's nice to see that Rainbow Dash exhibits such high levels of hometown pride. I find it funny that Rainbow Dash wants the Crystal Kingdom to host the games because its citizens "lost 1,000 years to an evil king's curse. They've had enough bad news." That's like saying Israel should host the Olympics because the Jews were enslaved by the Egyptians. "No way we're letting them experience the pain of losing out on these games."

The crux of the episode involves around a case of mistaken identity, in which the main characters confuse someone of little importance with someone of great importance.

In the case of Games Ponies Play, the mane six mistake a random tourist named Ms. Peachbottom for the Games Inspector.

If her name is Ms. Peachbottom, why is her cutie mark a cock? Because her right foreleg looks like a penis.

Here's the top five porn producers from amongst the mane six. (Sorry Rarity.)

Ms. Peachbottom is a very interesting character who actually has a surprising amount of depth, considering that this is her first appearance. From this episode we learned that Ms. Peachbottom is friendly and athletic. In addition, she has a country accent and is relatively well-informed regarding architecture, as evidenced by her knowledge regarding rotundas. It's also strongly implied that she's claustrophobic (afraid of enclosed spaces) and altocelarophobic (afraid of high ceilings).

Ms. Peachbottom also has no qualms about flirting with a married stallion. She'd like to blow Shining Armor's whistle, if you know what I mean.

Another new character introduced this episode is the actual Games Inspector, Ms. Harshwhinny.

We don't learn as much about her, since the joke is that she's ignored until the end of the episode. Ms. Harshwhinny also appears as a teacher in IDW's Equestria Girls comic.

Some of the scenes from Games Ponies Play which also occur in Just for Sidekicks have inconsistencies between the two versions.

Overall, this episode is interesting because elements of the story are running parallel with Just for Sidekicks. Games Ponies Play takes the well-worn premise of mistaking identity and keeps it fresh by including new ponies with genuine personality as opposed to stock characters. Ms. Harshwhinny never had much time to develop as a character, but Ms. Peachbottom's appearance more than made up for it. It's especially enjoyable to watch Just for Sidekicks and Games Ponies Play back-to-back.

Now on to the big one. The season three finale, Magical Mystery Cure The title is an allusion to The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour.

There was a lot of controversy swirling around this episode even before it aired. I took a poll from amongst my readers to determine the biggest controversy of season three. According to the results, Hasbro sending a cease and desist letter to the creators of Fighting is Magic was more controversial amongst fans than Twilight Sparkle becoming an alicorn.

After the season three finale aired, Twilight's alicorn status has been a constant source of contention within the fandom. The fact that Twilight Sparkle is an alicorn Princess now doesn't bother me, but I can understand why this change would be so upsetting to some people. Now that the controversy has been addressed, let's proceed to the actual episode.

The increased musical numbers were a welcome surprise. At the 2013 Leo Awards in Vancouver, British Columbia, Daniel Ingram and Steffan Andrews won "Best Musical Score in an Animation Program or Series" for Magical Mystery Cure.

Several people have issues with the story of Magical Mystery Cure, which has been called rushed and sloppy.

Twilight goes on to say that it's more than their memories. Their very selves have been altered. "They're not who they're meant to be anymore. Their destines are now changed." Twilight Sparkle's talk of destiny made me hope the episode would include a scene which paid homage to Young Frankenstein.

Starfall Leyline on YouTube echoes my feelings regarding Twilight's coronation. The core of the episode is solid, but the story suffers from a rushed pace. This could've been an excellent two part episode. Instead, one of the most important moments in Twilight's life played out like a scene from the Court Jester.

During her coronation, Twilight tells the huddled masses that she considers herself "the luckiest pony in Equestria."

Her comments are an allusion to Lou Gehrig's farewell speech.

Considering the somber nature of Lou Gehrig's famous address, the decision to have Twilight echo his sentiments was more appropriate than the writers may have realized.

Some bronies view Twilight's coronation as the death of the adorkable bookworm. She's no longer relatable now that she's a princess. It's still too early to say how her new responsibilities will affect her personality. I'm not upset by the change, but I think the path to Twilight Sparkle's coronation was rushed with very little foreshadowing. I complain about the trip; not the destination.

It will be fun to see what new adventures await Twilight Sparkle and her friends in season four! Thanks for reading and feel free to share any thoughts or opinions in the comments section. I'll be back next month with another Rule34 update.

Don't forget what happens on Nov. 23!

Well, yes. I suppose it is the fiftieth anniversary of Doctor Who. I was actually talking about the fourth season premiere of Friendship is Magic.

I know I'm going to have to watch both a week after they air, or try and find them on YouTube, the question is, which will be on YouTube first? My Little Pony, or Doctor Who.

Holy shit, her forearm does look like a dick! :rainbowlaugh:

X and Y only has 68 new Pokémon? That's really stupid; the Pokémon company has officially run out of ideas for new ones.

You have to wonder what goes through the animator's ind when they draw something like that.
youoffendmeyouoffendmyfamily.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/little-mermaid-penis.jpg

Games Ponies Play didn't confuse me, but I was watching on the Hub, and the recycled scene used as the opener happens later in Just for Sidekicks. I guess I just had less confusing circumstances.

As for the finale, I agree on all points. Poorly paced and foreshadowed, but satisfying. As for the accusations of character death, we'll have to wait and see if and how Twilight changes. She certainly seemed adorkable in Equestria Girls.

I have a question. Twilight became a alicorn princess because she came up with new magic. Does this mean that if any other pony came up with new magic they would become an alicorn princess as well?

My problem with Alicorn Twilight isn't whether or not her character "died", it's that the entire thing is a lose-lose situation, in a way.

If it IS changing her character and she'll be all princessy and shit...do not want.

If it's NOT changing her character at all...why did they even do it? From a storytelling standpoint, going to such lengths to make a huge deal out of that major of a change, only to have it not really change anything at all, is terrible writing. But...oh right, Hasbro wanted to make more "princess" toys, so it had to be done.

But either way, I still can't help but feel that Twilight now stands out from her friends. Not only a super-rare race of extremely powerful pony, but also royalty. She sticks out like a sore thumb now. It's already a bit of a nag that nobody in Ponyville knows who the 6 are despite them saving the world multiple times over, but if Twilight is now an Alicorn AND royalty, and the town STILL doesn't even recognize her, that's just going to amplify that small nag into a moderate nag.

Sure, one could argue, "Oh, but she has ALWAYS been superior to her friends! She's the princess' student!!" and such...yes, those are true, but they're not obvious. They're not constantly referenced. She still FEELS like a normal pony despite all of these "superiorities", and fits in with the others just fine. Now? She has a big honking pair of wings to serve as a constant reminder of her new status.

But eh...2 more weeks and we'll see.

Sexi graphs.

That is all. Equestria is ours.

:rainbowwild::derpytongue2:

I don't like how the Elements of Harmony's origins are that they're fucking fruits from a tree.

My biggest problem with Twilight is her friends bowing before her.
images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130217144606/mlp/images/thumb/4/41/Celestia_bows_to_Twilight_S03E13.png/640px-Celestia_bows_to_Twilight_S03E13.png

It's one thing to salute a friend who joins the military. It's another thing to bow.

Context matters. If this were Japan, where bowing was common, I wouldn't mind as much. I don't even mind the ponies bowing before Celestia, since she's their ruler. But it didn't sit well with me when I saw Celestia bowing to Twilight.

Maybe the writers were going for an ending like Lord of the Rings, where everyone bows before the humble hobbits.

The difference here is that Twilight didn't become an alicorn by saving the world. Twilight has saved Equestria multiple times, but she was never made an alicorn because of that. Her coronation came because she created "a new kind of magic."

That's like Frodo destroying the one ring, but the people don't bow to him until he invents a more efficient method of gardening.

I hate to say it, but the qualifications for becoming an alicorn make Spike's "dragon code" seem logical by comparison.

Probably My Little Pony. Brony dedication is best dedication.

Many fans were disappointed to learn that X and Y only included 69 new Pokemon.

Hehe... 69...

Frankly, I did not care for either Just for Sidekicks or Games Ponies Play. I thought both were terrible (for different reasons.) That they were parallel stories was nice, but that was basically the only real good point to them. (Okay, fine, I did like Peachbottom. She was amazingly well-fleshed out for what was probably a one-shot joke character, with some traits you don't usually expect. And that was the episode that showed us how Twilight is learning to get a hold on her panicky reactions, via Cadance's teaching. So three good points, total.)

Magical Mystery Cure was incredibly rushed. The entire plot ran in the first 2/3 of a single episode - the rest was basically epilogue. I like the fact that Twilight ascended, but that episode desperately needed breathing room. A lot of it. The only reason it worked at all was because of the songs. Without them, that would have just been a royal mess. Also, it had some major flaws (Twilight being incredibly careless with an incomplete, unknown spell, Rarity displaying a completely wrong special talent, and dear sweet goddess WTF was with those crowns?!)

I'm still looking forward to both shows airing on the 23rd - I'm definitely a Whovian as well as a brony.

1499978 My thoughts on MMC is that it could've really been a 3 part-er episode. First to have Twilight actually study the spell instead of say "It's a gift from the Princess! What could possibly go wrong?!" (:facehoof:), and then, at the end of the episode, she decides that yes, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the spell. Time to cast! Then, we move away from her, and not only show the Elements changing, but also their bearers. Did they just suddenly stop what they were doing, and rush about to change places with the others? What happened to them when the spell actually hit?

Now that we've seen something go seriously wrong with Twilight's friends, we're plenty filled with a shiver of dread. Th-they'll be fine... right?

Second episode: Twilight wakes up the next morning, disgruntled her spell didn't do anything, and then sees ponies running about in the streets, screaming their heads off. Rarity's doing the weather. Wait, what?! Twilight runs out and starts talking to Rarity, who's frantically running about and causing all sorts of weather disasters, but can't get Rarity to tell her what's wrong. She sees Rarity's Rainbow's cutiemark, and song cue for "What my Cutie Mark is Telling Me." Twilight desperately tries to help her friends keep their sanity as the rest of the town starts to simmer down. Feeling that something's wrong (Why isn't Apple Bloom weirded out that Pinkie's got her sister's mark? Is Starswirl's spell affecting her memories, too? The whole town's, maybe?), she contacts the Princess, who tells her that everything's fine, and she can figure something out. Have Twilight begin studying, montage style. Zoom out of the library, where we see Rarity doing crazy weather magic, Rainbow being chased about by a few birds, Pinkie being as ADD as ever, and not finishing anything, and Applejack is now trying to knit a garment out of pasta.

Now we're starting to see the full scope of things. On to the third episode!

The town's looking worse for wear, it's obviously been a few months, and Twilight's at her wit's end. Fluttershy's telling absurd jokes, trying to make Twilight laugh, but she's too miserable. After a song about how she wished things would go back to normal, how things had never changed, we can have Discord and Rainbow Dash show up, Discord holding onto a few dog leashes (most of the dogs either floating or otherwise), while Dash struggles against a a leashed Chihuahua. Discord takes the leash from Dash, tells her to get some more pet food or something, and sighs a bit sadly as Fluttershy chases after Dash, telling more jokes. Discord laments how his bestest friend Fluttershy has become so blue (since Rainbow thinks she is Fluttershy, in all but name) lately. He lays down some wit as he and Twilight banter, before he pulls her into a song cue, which helps cheer her up, even if momentarily. Then, inspiration! Something Discord said strikes Twilight, and she thinks "Wait a minute, Rarity's still being fashionable about the weather! Applejack is still doing function over fashion! Pinkie's barely functioning at all! Let's try this!" Then we get the "Hey, x, come help y" scene and song, All her friends become normal, and sure, the town, boutique, and farm all need some serious fixing, at least she's together with her friends again. Twilight, with a bit more respect for both Discord and Fluttershy, thanks the good Dr Q, who snaps and congratulates her on getting them all back to normal. He hugs Fluttershy, grateful for his friend back, and leaves. The episode ends with Twilight realizing what the spell needs, and then bam! Magically barbecued! Twilight's not in the library any more!

"Congratulations, Twilight. You've done well, my student."

"P-princess Celestia?!"

END. Season Four starts off with her casting the spell, her disappearing, and then we get a better explanation from Celestia about the Alicornization.

[br]

Also,

If her name is Ms. Peachbottom, why is her cutie mark a cock? Because her right foreleg looks like a penis.

I've always thought it was because she's a Cloud Cuckoolander.

:applecry:

1500229 I don't know that a few months would be appropriate... but otherwise I like your ideas and wish to subscribe to your magazine. :pinkiehappy:

Seriously, that's a pretty good idea of how it ought to go. I'd still favor two episodes over three, myself, but three would work. Of course, that would have required Season Three not have been truncated so severely. (There were a few things in S3 that should have been two-part episodes, really.)

I get a knot in my stomach whenever someone like Bronycurious, Digibrony or some other yuppie who thinks they know what they're talking about claim that MMC was a good episode. It wasn't. There's that piece of slop you brought up about memories, but branching off of that there's the fact that, despite remembering that Twilight is their friend, they don't seem to remember all the adventures they went on when their specific skills were put into use. It made no sense and just destroys the nuance of the episode.

I never actually minded Twilight becoming an alicorn when it was first announced. In fact, I thought it would be both a great change to the show and some high-larious raging going on among the fandom. But what I wasn't expecting was how bad the episode was. Heck, I even put it at number 5 on my "Top 10 Worst Episodes of MLP" blogpost.

Anyway, that's all I gotta say. Psyched for season 4, but even more for Doctor Who (it's really one of my favorite shows). Sadly, I'm probably gonna be too sick to watch the season 4 premiere saturday morning, considering I have a Fall Formal to attend :pinkiesick:

Blegh. Can't dance.

1500491 Well, look at it this way: Sweet Apple Acres was run down like no other, the trees were all decaying, and almost everything was broken. We didn't see much of Big MacIntosh during the episode, so either he was laid up in a hospital or something, or not even HE could keep the farm running with Pinkie larking about. Same with the Carousel Boutique. Unless Rarity had been selling her dresses for a bit a piece for the past season or two, there is no way in hell that the Boutique could have gone out of business in anything less than a week. Given those two facts (not including the angry mood hanging over Ponyville, because that could be achieved in only a few short days), then at least a month or two have gone by since she cast the spell.

1500508

I get a knot in my stomach whenever someone like Bronycurious, Digibrony or some other yuppie who thinks they know what they're talking about claim that MMC was a good episode. It wasn't. **There's that piece of slop you brought up about memories,** but branching off of that there's the fact that, despite remembering that Twilight is their friend, they don't seem to remember all the adventures they went on when their specific skills were put into use.** It made no sense and just destroys the nuance of the episode.

**I don't think BC or DB are yuppies, for one, and for another, a lot more people seem to think this episode was okay. Besides, they didn't claim it was a perfect episode. They only claimed it was good. Could it have been better? No shit. But it was still okay for what we got.

**It's a valid point, though. :duck:

**Yeah, that's true. But that's kinda the thing. Those memories aren't necessarily important to the episode, so why bring them up?

Actually, if you've ever read Xenophilia or any of its spin-offs (or, in all honesty, just don't mind a Human in Equestria fic), then I'd suggest Divided Rainbow, since it takes Magical Mystery Cure, has (as of the current chapter) taken place throughout an entire MONTH instead of a day, and has actually questioned the Swapped Five of their pasts, and how they differentiate from what we know.

It's an interesting story, and kinda follows the same idea I'd presented in my last two comments, and throws some more moral ambiguity into the mix.

1500608 Minor correction, Digibrony at least was saying it was "my favorite episode of anything. Ever." Or something along those lines.

1500630 I could see that. It was my favorite episode from season 3, that's for sure.

1500594 Oh, I'd go with a month, and add that magic is responsible for accelerated problems. (But actually reference it, instead of just stuff happening overnight with nobody noticing.)

1500792 Yeah, that sounds plausible.

Really, really, REALLY looking forward to the 23rd-- my friends and I have organized this huge Doctor Who geek-out marathon. Unfortunately, it's the same day that Season 4 comes out... I guess I can record it (yay cable!) but it's just not the same...:applejackunsure: I guess at least I don't have to choose. That would be terrible. :raritydespair:

Doctor Who might be uploaded first in the internet, but in Youtube... Brony dedication is so strong I bet two hours after the Season Premiere there'd already be an episode. Not bragging, but strongly guessing.

You seem to forget that Twi bowed before her friends as well. At her speech on the balcony. You know? The one, which the princesses seemed to have intended only for her to speak to everypony but she made it so her friends would come too on the balcony getting the praise of the nation as well? :ajbemused:

I really dislike how everybody views the bowing so negatively. If they had bowed just like that I could see the trouble, but here they did so after Celestia, the pony they always and always and always, bow to whenever she shows up/whenever they meet her, bowed to Twi. With Celly giving Twi the title of a princess they bowed to Twi for once, in respect and not in submission or in inferior admiration like quite some seems to believe that's the case. Just how shallow do they think the friendship of the Mane6 is? One gets wings and a title and suddenly they can't see her as their friend anymore? Seriously, what's up with this drama fandom?! :raritydespair:

It most likely will be an once-in-a-lifetime-serious-bow as we haven't seen them bow at the coronation or anypony else for that matter. If anything we might see a in S4 mockery bow or two in order to make fun of Twi's modesty about her new status. I could defintely see RD and Pinkie do so. :pinkiehappy:
