To Princess Celestia,
I write to you in a time of great mourning.
Anonymous and I have been playing a game called Ogres and Oubliettes with a small group of friends. Our characters were to embark on a dangerous task to slay a giant, so in order to better our chance of success, we hired an orc mercenary named Orc Mercenary. Though he did not say much, I still attempted to befriend him. His cold demeanor was unwavering, but I believed he only needed time to open up.
Unfortunately, we did not have that time. Our party soon encountered the giant, and Orc Mercenary charged in courageously. The giant focused its attacks on him; he did not survive the battle.
No matter how much I wish otherwise, I cannot truthfully say Orc Mercenary was my friend. I understand that there was nothing more I could have done, but still my mind is harried by thoughts of what could have been. From the moment we hired him, I had already accepted that he would be a permanent member of The Chromosomes. I believed we would have enough time to become friends.
I only knew him for a brief period, yet I feel his death will forever weigh upon me. I pray time will dull this pain, but for now, I mourn his passing. I mourn for the friendship we never had. I will never forget Orc Mercenary.

Because I know they all take their D&D seriously, I can guarantee that Orc Mercenary is not actually dead, but will instead return at a crucial point in the plot either to save the day, or more likely is actually the BBEG.
That, or Stu is going to be so forthright in his friendship with Orc Mercenary that they will go on a massive impromptu side quest to bring him back, all of which will have absolutely no bearing on the plot but will be fun for everyone involved
This fucking changeling man
RIP Orc Mercenary, we hardly knew ye.
The Chromosomes? Really? I sense the input of Anon.

To this day, Stu's character carry's Orc Mercenary's skull with him, in the hopes of resurrecting the friend he never had.
Naturally, the skull is actually a demilich.
So how many Chromosomes are there in the group?

More than you have.

and from that day onward, the party unanimously agreed that Stu's character (and perhaps Stu himself) were to have their memory modified every time a character died, for the good of everyone involved.

not enough or too many. you choose
I feel the same way when a companion dies in Skyrim. Especially the house Stewards.

Why are a good chunk of the episodes about the bearers learning about their element, then? Why would Fluttershy need to refine her care in the episode with the breezies? Why could Discord mindscrew Rarity? Why is there literally an episode and song about them being flawed, but trying? If they were paragons of their particular virtue, every episode would be five minutes of plot, a pithy solution and summation, and seventeen minutes and thirty seconds of the characters staring at the screen like Dora the Explorer.

My money is on fate and potential. Literal fate, because, come the hell on, the rainboom. Potential, because while they are not perfect right now, they can become perfect in the future.
This is so sad . Ponyxa , play Pinkacito.

That was my point: they were chosen for valuing the trait and determination to improve, or they would have exploded five minutes into The Ticket Master.
Poor Orc Metcenary, forever will be the tales be told of how he derailed the plot for two years by being dead through no fault of his own.
huh... anon really chose stupid's name well

True, but then we get into the meat of things people who want to feel moral instead of being moral ignore. Like the wage gap. It is based on the average wages of males and females. That is, mathematical average. The totals of all men and all women in the US added and divided by the population of their respective sexes. However, women of the same position and experience as men are paid the same as the men. This has been proven countless times. As such, the wage gap doesn’t exist except for the mathematical average version which doesn’t mean (math pun!) anything because the men and women aren’t exact duplicates of each other with each man having an identical woman with the same experience, education, time spent employed by that employer, and position.
You see my point about the meat. In the details, attempts to pretend to be moral fall apart against the truth. Which is why those pony students changed their tune when what they thought was the “popular” way of “helping” was replaced with homeless shelter support.

Not enough by a long shot.

One too many as of Twilight's joining.

Please educate yourself. Just because textbooks focus almost exclusively on the accomplishment of white people doesn't mean other ethnic groups don't have anything under their belt.

Ah, two varying opinions, and yet both are correct

I feel like the comment he left was kind of reaching, as #notall, but There’s a bit of truth in there. Not to mention there are still so many tribal peoples in Africa, a disproportionate number I feel, as when I think of modern tribals I think of Africans in mud huts or the natives in the jungles. That being said, nobody ever changed someone else’s mind by telling them to “educate themselves”. Try to be nicer about it, even if you don’t like what he’s saying.

On School Essays, lol sorry for not being clear

Sheesh if they really want him back just get a cleric and cast resurrection for a diamond.
To be fair, it's not hard to get attached to a semi-decent-made NPC. The crestfallen look on my one group's faces when the dragon egg we were sent along with a dwarven cleric was scrambled via a spread-attack spell and her fictional little heart was broken....
And then of course, there's the NPCs that are basically the Footment from Warcraft 2: They show up by the hundreds, die in the hundreds, and the party nimbly steps over their fallen Redshirt corpses and hacks the few still-standing foes to pieces, then goes back to town to celebrate victory without thinking about all those dead NPCs ever again....save to lament not looting the dead for any gold or half-decent equipment to sell.
9940329 My thoughts exactly. That's a name only Anon could come up with.
You gotta love Stu Luck Pid though.

I think the point is that the Elements choose their Bearers, in some way, but that the Bearers are most decidedly not each a perfect exemplification of said Element. I'd rather say that each has more of said virtue than others. But, obviously, they're terribly flawed in other ways, as well.
On the whole, it's something of a "coming of age" story, when you consider just the major plot points - or maybe more "growing into your potential", which seems to be something of a theme in general here...
9940620
Which is exactly why I just never take any, or just leave 'em at home. They are safer there.
And that's nothing compared to mod companions - well, some of them, anyway. The way modders make these characters genuinely lovable beyond expectations... I suspect it has something to do with the fact that they don't need to develop a game engine and the rest of the game while they're at it, so they can settle for perfection. ;]
I know death is cheap in video games, but I'd rather grind to be a one-man army than see anyone under my protection bite it. Besides, it's Skyrim* - becoming a one-man army is written into the premise.
* and, it being Skyrim, there's also setessential.
That's not the beginning to a letter anyone ever wants to read IRL.

And ends with Stu killing a god and taking its place.
Oh my God Stu is sooo freaking cute!
God, I thought Anon was trolling Sparkle again. I don't feel very good when I felt sorry only after I realized who wrote the letter
