I think I would be able to be hooked on the plot, but I think you need to explain this a bit more.

3. is Marcus normally around royalty? He seems a little too calm around the princess.

1. Marcus is not a gamer, he merely made a statement on how he was living that dream of (as far as I'm aware) all gamers, to live in a post apocalyptic environment.
2. will be explained in detail in later chapters.
3. Marcus has spent three years in Equestria, with nearly all of his time spent in or around the castle, so yes he has spent a great deal of time with the princess.

as for your quote
Marcus is a sceptic, and a later sleeper, leading to him never seeing the princess raise the sun, nor believing that she could. It probably helps him sleep at night, I'll go ask him.
