2235772 I just try to take the starting point and move it into a logical conclusion. In what constitutes logic in my mind. If there is someone to blame, it's the author.
A little bit off topic: In real life, people don't "flip out" from one or two incidents. They need a long time to simmer to reach that point. Mostly if you try to keep all your emotions in, you end up becoming a volatile wreck of a person and raging at complete strangers about the weirdest of things. I know. I've been there. Am I reflecting those sides of myself into Shining Armor? Hell yeah. Is Shining Armor me? Hell no.
Wow. Lots of great stuff in this chapter. Shining finally starts getting a real understanding of his problem. We get a lot more insight into Cadance's psychology, despite the very limited view we have of her through Shining's eyes. What's left is a major confrontation between Shiny and Cady, and that's the point where either things start to get better, or fall apart completely for them.
Also, ending on a cliffhanger like this is just cruel.
There is one part I didn't like, and again it was the maids. I completely understand the purpose, but it has the same problem as before: It went on far too long. If I were Shining I wouldn't have lasted through a third of that - that was the only part of his reaction I didn't understand; how he lasted through all of that without absolutely exploding at them. I would have.
2235962 Shining has a problem with mares. I think that's evident by now. He doesn't know how to act or hold his own around them. He was also hung over, mostly just begging for them to go away.
He's never had a full-on confrontation with the maids, either. They've been cheeky and they've ignored him, but here they're already at defcon 2. And frankly, they've got a lot more justification here than he does. He's just given them, and all of their friends and colleagues a ton of unnecessary work to do, as well as destroying several priceless items they've spent their entire careers essentially curating. And from their point of view, it looks like he did it because he was sulking at Cadance.
Shining is already on the defensive. He's just trashed a room for no good reason and been caught with his pants down, covered in jizz, which is bad enough. When he tries to speak up, Feather Duster explodes at him. Plus headache, plus wet, plus knowing he wasn't justified in wrecking the room... Well, it catches him flat-hoofed. When he finally does explode — at the impotence jab — the maids are already prepared. They just walk the fuck out.
2235980 Yeah, I get it. But having them just jabbering paragraph after paragraph was just torture. I got the point quickly enough. And, speaking as an armchair psychologist, there's something profoundly emasculating about their scenes - unlike even the rape, which was arguably unavoidable, the verbal beatdown highlights Shining's helplessness, not because of lack of knowledge or misfortunate circumstance, but because of an undeniable weakness of character. The maids didn't overpower or out-strategise him; Shining had every opportunity to assert his authority, and yet they beat him utterly. That's just horrible.
Ahh such a juicy chapter, seeing such anguish emotions and dark thoughts, really got me loving it as Shining made some revelations. As Shining Armor realizes his fear for Cadence and see why Cadence is acting...volatile, for lack of a better word, it'll be interesting to see what happens in the next chapter as finally Cadence is going to act coldly towards Shining as he tries to act cautious to one that he afraid of angering. Really nice scenes with him thrashing the room more then then what's already done, and as well as shame for what he has done as he tries to regain his mind as to who he truly is.
Can't wait for the next chapter, nice work man, keep up the good work
It's less the jacking off, and more the jacking off on the gigantic pile of mess and destruction that basically the entire castle staff has to deal with. It comes off as a little rude, i feel.
2236042 All the answers to your questions were in the chapter already. Maybe they weren't spelled out, but they were all there. Were the maids nasty? Hell yeah they were. Emasculating? Eeeyup. Was it too drawn out? No, not really. Almost everything that was in the real "talking to" gave the reader a new perspective to Shining's predicament, which has been sorely needed in the story. (So I've been told). And trashing his home? Hell, it's not HIS home for the two maids, now is it. It's Cadance's.
The rim of a glass wriggles its way into Shining Armor's mouth, and some vile concoction enters his mouth and assaults his tender taste buds. He promptly spits it out and coughs in disgust. "Cady... what the hay was that stuff?" "It's just water. Stop being a baby and drink up."
2236110 I thought the part with starting with "In all honesty..." was definitely informative. Torturous, but very important to the story. It's the stuff before that that was grating; just pointless banter about antiques I don't care a damn about, which have not been mentioned up to this point, and will never be of any kind of plot relevance. That's the part that was too drawn out to me.
By the way, your avatar keeps making me feel like I just said something incredibly stupid every time I read one of your replies...
2236161 I wonder why my avatar would ever make anyone think that. Must be your imagination.
And I beg to differ on the importance of the earlier parts. They show how the two maids are coping with this completely alien situation, going through shock, then anger. Like they said, they've been working their asses off for almost two decades to keep those antiques in mint condition. They also act as sort of curators for the visitors to the castle. This is quite usual for large palaces and such that are open to the public at certain hours. They won't of course be visiting a royal couple's bedroom, but every item of furniture and paraphernalia there has a story and history to it, and the two maids are faced with the destruction of their whole career's worth of work.
And there will be more about the maids, but not telling anything.
In my headcanon, that sort of spell is a blunt instrument. It can repair something like solid concrete — it's just one standard mixture all the way through. However, she couldn't repair the book that Spike destroyed in Owl's Well that Ends Well. So, the more complex and fernickety the item, the more difficult repairs are. And when the items in question are highly-detailed antiques...
2236206 Then I think I see the problem; you're asking me to empathize with characters which I hate.
Have I mentioned yet how much I hate those maids?
Anyway, I guess we'll have to disagree. When re-reading that part I simply don't feel anything other than an overwhelming desire for it to be over.
On a different topic, it's clear to me that Cadance is being so understanding of Shining (and not just here but in previous chapters as well) because she's terrified of losing him. That could prove very... painful... as their conflict comes to a head. The possibilities are still wide open for how this will go down.
I repeat myself, but: Cliffhanger. You sick bastard.
I foresee Shiney exploding on Cadance to reclaim control. Shes not gonna take that lightly. Major issues with the two of them, possible separation. Are we ever going to see Cadance's end of the therapy?
But GOD those accents are annoying. Cockney doesnt even bother me, but for some reason, those damn maids... Shiny lasted ALOT longer than I would have with them.
Enthralling. I am sorry but I am unable to articulate the massive amounts of thoughts I have on this chapter. I have them then forget all in the time the thought finishes. All I can do is thank you for the chapter and ask you deliver the next expeditiously. Thank you.
Okay, I love this fic, and this chapter brought us some great exposition, and I'm happy to see Shining finally progressing... But really? This fic shouldn't have a Comedy tag. It should have a Dark tag, if anything. My opinion...
This is one hay of a mind-fuck clopfic, VERY well thought out... Shining's actions and epiphany makes perfect sense, and it ended on just the right cliffhanger note. Can't wait to see the next part...
I can't give you any more upvotes, but I'd get that you beer if I could.
And this is where the story becomes ever soo delicious! This is the kind of story that really intrigues me and gets me hooked; character development through pain and harshness. I cannot wait for the next chapter!
and then there was this third... guardspony. From what I could make out, he apologised for luring you to drinking under false pretences and that it had been a ploy on his and his friend's behalf."
"He... did?"
"Yes. I told the other two to arrest him and they took him away."
"You... did?"
That is a true fucking friend right there, takes the rap with interest in a way the minimizes collateral. Iron, I salute you! Hell, I don't drink much but you got a drinking buddy any time you need one... er, at least he would if he existed. :P
As for the rest of the story... He's going to need an Apology Mk 5 with Rapid rage loader and guilt trip ammunition. An empathy under barrel attachment might come in handy too. Ya... not sure why I used a gun metaphor for that. whatever.
2235978 At the rate things are going, and with how conflicted Shining is about himself and what's going on around him a divorce or just some time alone to think would be the best possible thing for him at the moment.
A good talk with Cadance would really improve his mental health as well, and stress would definitely fuck up his attitude more than anything at the momeny, aka the talk he's going to have with Cadance.
New chapter....
NEW CHAPTER!
HURRAY!
Still need 250 more upvotes. Chuck promised to buy me a beer at 1k.
Dun dun duuuuuunn.
Oh shiiiiiii-
The good Captain is in for it now lol
Hot damn this is awesome

Damn. Shining is screwed. What if his worst fear comes true and she beats him up? Maybe he should get a divorce.

2236023 Yeah, see my post above for my thoughts.
Although I have to point out another thing: Shining is in his own home. Why the hell shouldn't he be allowed to jack off when he wants to?

2236105 You distract the referee and I'll slam him with a steel chair, k?
Wrecking all that priceless stuff shouldn't really be a problem, should it? Just get Twilight in with a repair spell.
Hilarious.
I'd have to say Shining did the right thing in trying to terminate those bitches jobs the way they've been treating him.

Really, really nasty.

fantastic writing
Oh BUSTED!!!!!
This is why communication is so important in a marriage. I think Shiny's going to be out on his hiney for a bit.
Maybe they should have gone with couples' counselling fromg the get-go.
Amazing chapter. And I rarely say that to anyone. Keep up the good work
At this point there's only one thing for Shining Armor to do.
Run away! Keep running! Don't stop running ever! If they catch you they will kill you!
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow.
Shining Armor and Princess Cadence are fucked individuals.
You're doing good out there, keep it up.

This is going to end with Shining getting a complete thrashing, or Cadence getting ripped to pieces.
Dead stallion walking!
Damn
Only if he would have finished the sentence where he was going to say cancel then things probably seem so bad

would have fired the maids on the spot and kept them fired. don't care what cadence says.

From what I figure, after some yelling, some arguments, some explanations, I foresee some hot hate-sex with some rape-play in it
the story is going nice but it seems to be getting a bit dark. is there going to be anything about cadance's side?
