Solid tensed his legs as he looked around the foyer. He spotted his charge sitting amongst the group of foals. Noting a small smile on Aqua's face, his mouth twitched upwards. In front of Aqua was a group of foals sitting in a circle. From the distance, it was hard to hear, but it looked like a foal's game of duck duck goose. Aqua didn't seem to be playing, merely sitting off to the side. The foals clearly tolerated her though, and she was laughing along with them, if a bit subdued.
Occasionally, one of the foals would go over to Aqua and sit next to her. A violet pegasus filly. He'd seen her a few times taking a peak at Aqua. Should keep an eye out. He would see them chatting while the others played. While it was normal behaviour for her, Aqua's emotions were calm next to the other filly's exuberance. The distance made it too hard to hear, but Solid could still tell that they were having fun. With it all, it's good she's able to smile. Very good.
Solid briefly eyed the filly's horn. Doesn't look like anything happened. Should mention it to Cotton though... Solid scanned the room lazily before his eyes landed on Aqua once more. Need to bring her for a manecut. She has the longest hair I've ever seen a foal have. Another thing for Cotton to do. Solid chuckled. Thankfully I don't have to do that... I hope. Watching a manecut is more boring than getting one.
He stood there in silence, as any good guard must.
Eventually, though, his thoughts drifted further as a dreamy smile arose. Those massive wings of hers... Solid looked around the foyer once more, only to be disappointed. She's usually here today... Wonder if she's okay. Solid shrugged his withers and snorted. She'd likely be fine dealing with even criminals. Looking out at the colts and fillies once more. She knows how to deal with foals... He then blushed and started to shift nervously. Gotta ask her sooner or later... Could do it on Pollen day if she's here.
He hummed to himself and absentmindedly looked back at Aqua. Should also send my parents a letter. I'd love to meet up with them again. Been nearly two... three years? By The Princess, I miss them. "Yeah, I think I'll see if I could meet up with them again." Solid whispered to himself.
To the right of him, he heard a syrupy mare's voice. "Meet up with who?"
Solid jumped away from the voice, tensed, and turned, only to see Sunny Disposition where he was. He put a hoof to his chest to calm his heart. "Hello, Ms. Sunny. You really scared me."
She giggled, "I believe they call it a prank?" she 'helpfully' added.
Still trying to calm himself down, he came back to his spot with a tinge on his cheek. "While I'm glad to see you, don't do that again. How did you even sneak up on me?"
She lightly brushed a wing against his side as she walked past him. Looking back at him, she teased, "A secret~. Perhaps you shall learn someday."
Solid sighed and smiled as he watched her walk off towards Aqua. I can't wait. He resolved himself. Tree day. I'll ask her out on Tree day.

Not gonna be that dude, but do you look at computer monitors or TVs a lot? I'm honestly in the same boat if that's true. My eyesight is getting worse as time goes on, and I'm nowhere even near middle-aged yet. I need to go outside more...

Also it's nice to see Aqua getting included or atleast watching the other foals playing. I hope she'll make some friends with the ponies her age.

Yeah, I can't wait to write out him trying to stay stalwart while talking to Sunny. It's bound to be oodles of fun for me, you, and hopefully, them.
As a child, it's very hard to truly join a group of other kids. There's learning everything about everyone, getting them to like you, as well as them liking you, and then not to mention actually getting along once everything else is settled. Aqua deserves some freedom after the small trials she's faced so far.

Ya only mentioned Solid, and one of the two mares, though I cannot decide which you meant lmao. Sunny is larger than cotton, so I assumed you were thinking Sunny and Solid together adopting Aqua. But with Cotton's growing attachment to the filly, that would be hard to have happen IMO. I cannot wait.
Nice, another chapter! Cute chapter, it's nice to see Aqua included (even if she's only listening from a distance) with foals her own age
I also think it's super cute that the violet pegasus decided to join Aqua for company. I think we've seen her before actually. Isn't she the filly who tried to be friends with Aqua a while ago, who Aqua called a cute kid? Well, I say tried to be friends, but she mostly just asked Aqua about her magic and left. Is she Serrated Fabric? I don't think we got a description of her, other than she's a pegasus filly with a blue and pink mane.

It's not certain if the two are the same filly yet. Though, I suppose it'd be likely considering there haven't been any other foals to show an interest in Aqua in the story.

I'm not particularly fond of spoilers in comments either, as they might unwittingly spoil the story for readers just browsing the comments. That said, I can also understand if you want to talk about your story. It's a product of your own imagination (with some inspiration of course), and I get why you'd want to share that. I mean, who doesn't want to share their passions and ideas with others, especially with like-minded people? I know I can get excited when I want to share my passions with my friends, and I imagine the feeling is similar with your story, especially when it's something you've created youself.

darn. My binge reading has binged out. But yeah, as others have said don't force yourself and all that jazz. It's never good. Also here's hoping Solid does actually remember to report that cracking noise.
The presence of a bodyguard at an orphanage is amusing to me for a number of reasons. While he was scanning for his charge I couldn’t help but imagine him tensing up when a foal wanders to close with a box of somewhat pointy crayons.
Aaaawwww that was a nice moment between Solid and Sunny. It's nice to see more character development for Solid.
