Loving the Sunset angst. Can't wait to see where that goes.
Yay, it's back! And things seem to be looking up, finally. Sunset and Wallflower are going to need to open up to eachother at some point about their respective wants and fears, though. Otherwise, their relationship might twist itself apart.
Ooo that meet went well! I'm kinda nervous about the party but the plants are a cute touch.
Also, this is to reitterate my feelings of d'aww and aaaaaaa! on their relationship.
So glad to see the update! Thank you
Mmmm. Sunset’s getting angsty. That can’t end well.
This, and all the unhealthy implications therein, is more or less the story’s whole thesis.
also, I, Posh, helped with this chapter. Mostly by making jokes about it.
I shouldn’t have read this before bed.
Nice work with the meeting between Wally, Pinkie, and Rarity, and the gift of the maidenhair ferns is an especially nice wee touch. Sunset's own last lines strike a good, ominous note, if she risks going too far down the route of self-sacrifice. Her own handling of the relationship seems like it'll get worse before it gets better.
I don't know how much longer this can go on before everything crashes down in spectacular fashion.
Sad but true. Good on Sunset for catching that and not unintentionally adding to Wallflower's feelings of guilt/shame.
I'm fairly sure that this is a paraphrase, if not an exact echo, of a line from Wallflower's perspective in the last chapter or so. This just really drives the codependence home. Nice use of repetition/parallel.
I like how the conversation in the opening scene feels less of a perpetual tug-of-war than some of their other talks have been. A small glimmer of hope. Of course, that section ends with the famous last words:
The Pinkie interrogation bit is hilarious, if very inappropriate on Pinkie's part. (She doesn't really know better though.) Good on Sunset and Rarity for having her tone it down a bit (as much as Pinkie can be toned down).
I wonder if your use of the maidenhair fern as Rarity's gift was intentional. The symbolism is rather fitting. Wallflower coming out of her shell a bit for the plant's sake (talking more, wanting to go to the store, etc.) was a nice touch.
I'm pretty sure I said this before, but choosing to set this story's timeline close after the events of Forgotten Friendship was a really great choice. The consistency of Sunset's lingering feelings of betrayal and bitterness really add to everything else she's got on her plate. That wouldn't have worked if it had taken place long after.
Time for one more deep breath, and then here we go.

I always was kinda re: the way the show and EqG in particular really glosses over some of the implications of the events that happen. This made me realize that even this aspect of Forgotten Friendship wasn’t really resolved.
Of course, the true and cool stoic thing is to realize that yes, it’s rare for any one person to be truly indispensable to any organization or friend group or family (especially so for functional ones, that’s almost part of the definition I feel), and in an alternate universe where one never existed, all of those groups would likely have found a different equilibrium that functions just as well for the people in them. Squaring this with the idea that every person is still important and valuable to the people in their lives can be unintuitive at times, but must be done.
It is lines like this that suddenly remind me that I am reading about human versions of colorful magical ponies from a television show targeted towards young girls.
Words for both herself and Wallflower, here.
Haha, I am totally called out here! Though I am honored that it was Rarity herself saying my line.
Aww! I am so glad Wally likes them! Rarity does live up to her Element sometimes.
And back to worrying about Sunset again.
