After graduating first in his class at a hair styling academy, Zephyr Breeze is more confident than ever that he can win over Rainbow Dash. Can her human friend help her find a solution to get the message across to the stubborn stallion?
Wait, how is Anon able to read Pony writing? Unless Twilight cast a permanent translation spell on him, the only other answer I can think of is Anon teaching Rainbow English, and I doubt Rainbow has the patience to learn an alien language.
I was going to wait until I finished the sorry to comment but this chapter had me laughing so much I couldn't wait to say how much I enjoyed it. Characterization and development had been solid and I'm enjoying the ride so far.
If the night previous was any indication, this was all very, very long-term, with shackles and strings - the whole nine yards. ;]
9665725 Whenever an author doesn't specifically want to deal with this issue (there's a group specifically about stories that start out with a language barrier, check it out!), it's usually attributed to "the Magic of Harmony" - ie. the magic permeating the world itself works its wonders to make these sapient creatures compatible with each other enough.
In my personal headcanon, whenever this happens, I just automatically assume that each species still speaks their own language, but what they hear is different from what they understand - the Magic of Harmony just translates concepts and intentions, so it doesn't bother all that much with actual language. The writing might as well be gibberish - you're still going to understand what's being said.
Of course, if you were to run with this idea, you'd soon enough find your characters inexplicably arguing over what a particular sign says - with all of them (assuming they're different species) getting a slightly different wording, in a sense... unless MoH also fixes that locally to prevent misunderstandings...
... I wonder how lying works in such a setting - does the intent get translated, or does MoH come up with something weird on the receiving end? This might burn nicely in a deconstruction of the idea...
you did get tickets to her Wonderbolts show this afternoon
"You notice quite a few manticores and griffins milling about as well."
Uhh, that doesn't seem very safe. Think you meant minotaurs.

Dude! Fantastic work on this. Keep it up!
Excellent Anon. One of the few fictions I could read over and over again.
And now you had Soarin and he's a nice guy. WHY CAN'T I LIKE THIS MORE THAN ONCE

Because getting a 1000 likes from the same person would be unfair for others.

I'm confused here.
I was legitimately worried at the start of this chapter that Anon was going to find Zephyr creeping at the show, and it would be on like Donkey Kong.
