Times We Cherish 2

I walked down the street to Sugar Cube Corner, humming a song I had written for the Rainbooms. I wasn’t sure it was all that great, but I was still going to show it to Rainbow Dash and see what she thought. However, this wasn’t the reason I was going to the shop. No, it was to meet up with Twilight, who hadn’t been back here in nearly a month simply because she was so busy in Equestria. As envious as I was back when I first met her, I don’t think I could do her job. Especially if it kept me away from someone I loved. It didn’t bother me that she spent these long stretches of time away. I mean, she had put off going back last time because I’d gotten so sick helping Applejack at the farm. She stayed with me until I was one hundred percent better, which took two weeks. It was nice having her around for that long, but as expected, it was even longer before she could come see me again.

Shrugging off the thought of her absence, I pushed the door to the shop open and walked in. Glancing around, I found Twilight sitting in a booth about half way between the door and the counter. I didn’t realize how much I had missed her until that moment. I had to stop myself from sprinting to her and pulling her into a big hug and kiss. No, I decided I’d have a little fun with her. With a deep breath, I walked over to her and placed a hand on the table.

“Wow. It’s not everyday you see a pretty girl in here. What brings you here?”

Twilight looked at me with a bewildered expression, but it seemed she caught on after a moment. “Are you talking about yourself, because I agree.”

Oh, good one. I gave her a smile. “Well, I was going to be meeting someone else here, but I think you’re more interesting, Mind if I join you?”

Twilight gave me a sly smile. “I don’t know. I was supposed to be meeting someone here myself. I don’t know if she’d like it if she saw me talking to you when she got here.”

“Oh? And why wouldn’t she like it?”

I saw a small look of guilt flash across Twilight’s face for a moment, then vanish before she spoke again. “Well, I haven’t seen her in a month. I don’t think she’d want to share me with someone else.”

“Well, I might have to have words with that person who would keep someone like you to herself. It really would be a shame for that to be the case.”

She looked to the table for a moment, then back up to me. “What about the person you were coming here to meet? Won’t she be bothered to see you with me instead of her?”

For someone who had probably never had a conversation like this, Twilight was doing really well with it. Then again, she was pretty smart.

I moved a hand on top of hers. “Don’t worry about that. I’m sure once she finds out how pretty you find me, how pretty you are, and how great we’re getting along, she won’t mind sharing me with you.” I squeezed her hand gently. “But I still think you take the beauty prize.”

Twilight blushed and twisted a strand of her hair around her finger nervously. “Alright. You convinced me. Sit down and join me.”

With a smirk, I took a seat across from her, still keeping my hand on hers as I did. I couldn’t believe how amazing she looked after not seeing her for a month. She made me so happy and it was so hard not seeing her for so long. However, all of that faded as I sat there holding her hand and looking at her from across the table.

“I missed you so much…” I said, unable to keep up the teasing and flirting.

Another look of guilt formed on her face as she looked at me. “I know. I’m so sorry it took me so long to get back here and see you. I missed you a lot too. I feel like such a terrible person.”

I shook my head slowly and took her other hand as well. “No. I know what I was getting myself into by getting into a relationship with you. I love you Twilight. Nothing will change that. If I have to wait a while between visits, it’s worth it because it’s you.”

“Wow...That makes me feel really good, Sunset. I figured you were already getting tired of the long amounts of time between visits. It’s good to know you aren’t,” she said.

“Well, when the prize for waiting is you, it’s not that hard.” I remembered how I felt a minute ago when I walked in and saw her. “You know, I had to stop myself from running to you and pulling you into a hug. I didn’t think I could feel that way about seeing you until that moment.”

“Why didn’t you?”

I shrugged and gave her a smirk. “I don’t know. I guess I wanted to have a little fun before we got into talking about how guilty you felt for not being here sooner.”

She laughed now. “Well, at first I was confused. I honestly thought for a moment you didn’t know who I was, but then I realized what you were doing. I thought it was cute.”

I gave a sheepish smile. “Aw, well, I just wanted to help break any tension you might have been feeling. I hope I managed to do that at least.”

She nodded. “Yes. You definitely made me feel more comfortable. That’s what I love about you. You have this way of making me just feel at ease. I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you aren’t angry with me.”

I sat there for a moment and studied her. I found myself wanting to memorize every part of Twilight. I knew that after this visit it could be another month before she came back. The feelings inside me in this moment were simply indescribable. Even true happiness didn’t cover what I was feeling.

“Sunset? You aren’t angry with me, right?”

I said nothing, but instead I stood and moved to sit next to her in the booth. I looked at her, placed a hand on her cheek, and shook my head. “Never,” I said, leaning in now and giving her a gentle kiss on the lips.

Twilight seemed to return the kiss, wrapping her arms over my shoulders. After a moment, I felt something wet touch my cheek. I pulled away and looked at her. There were a few tears falling from her eyes.

“What’s wrong?”

She smiled. “I missed you more than I thought I did and I’m relieved you aren’t furious with me when you have every right to be.”

I wiped her tears away and took her hands in mine once more. “Twilight. I said it before, but I’m going to say it one more time. You are worth the wait. I wish I could tell you what I was feeling right now, but I don’t have the words. You do this to me every time I see you. I’ve never been so happy in my life and it’s because of you. Why would I be angry with the person who gives me that feeling?”

“I think I know what you mean. Thank you for being so understanding. I don’t deserve that from you, but I’m glad I get it anyway.”

I shook my head. “Don’t think about it. Now come on. We’re going to go see a movie. I want as much time with you as I can get!” I exclaimed, standing up out of the booth and pulling her along with me.

That moment in Sugar Cube Corner was something I loved. Between the teasing we did back and forth, right down to the serious conversation we got into. All that mattered to me was that I was with Twilight again in a moment I would cherish for a long time to come.

Author's Note:

I hope you enjoyed this sequel to Times We Cherish! I thought this would be a fun little story to write and it was. Got a little mushy at the end, but that's kinda the point.

Thanks for reading!

You're talking to a person who's a total mushball--meaning me. This was sweet!

7704555 Hehe I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'm a sappy guy, so I love this kind of stuff. This is a great sequel. 10 outa 10.

7704744 Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm a sappy person too lol

Still love it. Keep it going.

Real sweet fluff. We really don't get all that many stories with the Sunset x Pony Twi ship, let alone of the mushy variety, and this satisfied my craving pretty well, and is pretty well-written to boot. I always liked the first story more for the details of Sunset's affection for Twi and for her complicated status in the human world than for the relatively subtle romance, but while this has a lot less to it, it's exactly what I have been looking for for a good while now. Thanks for this.

7705696 Well thank you! That means a lot. It makes me feel good to know that I helped satisfy someone's craving for this kind of fic. I love writing little stories like this. I just feel that it's the moments like these that make relationships and romance so much more meaningful. Anyway, I'm really glad that you enjoyed it! Thank you for reading.

Good job. Sunny and Twi is my fave ship and this made me pretty darn happy!

i've got my eyes on you buster!! you and your cherished story too!! aa hahaha!!

After reading the first story (and not leaving a comment), I thought it was a simple idea with an amazing portrayal of character and relationship. But when I read this, you made the characters bland. I'm sorry!

The thing I love about fan fiction is how we as fans expand existing medias without the restrictions of corporate minds. We do have that freedom, but we as fans lack direction. Answer me this, how far do you think your fan fiction will go?

I'm not trying to offend you. I just want to understand a writer's thought process.

7720665 No worries. I'm always open to hear opinions on how I've done with my writing. I'm still working hard on improving my process. As for my process on these stories, I'm simply thinking of small moments in relationships that end up meaning something to the people in them. Like in Times We Cherish, Sunset was sick and wanted Twilight to read to her. Despite Sunset being sick, Twilight liked the closeness they had in that moment. Sunset felt comfortable enough to snuggle close to Twilight, which made the latter feel happy.

In this one, since it was from Sunset's perspective, I had to write a little differently. I'm writing a completely different mindset and sometimes it's hard to switch gears like that, but I think I did alright. That being said, when I saw the picture I used for the cover and saw how they were looking at one another, it gave me the idea of having this flirtatious exchange between the two. I'll admit, it's a bit out of character for Twilight to act that way, but we all do things once in a while that are a little outside of our comfort zone.

I'm working on a third part to this and I've got something in mind, but I'm working on executing it a little better than I did this one. I will also say that this whole little series of stories is leading somewhere, but I'm not at liberty to say...even though I'm the one writing them! Haha. Anyway, know that you didn't offend me and that I do respect your opinion about the story. I take all criticism I get and use it to make myself a better writer. I hope that when I post the next part you don't find it as bland. On that last point, however, I would like to know what you mean by "bland". Was it their exchange in the start of the story? Was it the stuff between them at the end? Let me know! I will try not to make the same mistake again!

Short, simple and sweet. I love it

I feel like this isn't the end of this story.

7727256 More to come! Stay tuned!

I thought I had commented on this before but I guess I forgot to hit post.

Take two! :pinkiehappy:

This was a wonderful bit of fluff and earned its place in my favorite list by giving me the feels and the warm fuzzies.

8000377 I'm glad you enjoyed it! I have fun writing these kinds of things. Stuff that happens randomly in daily life that can be cute and fluffy. Thank you for reading
