Twilight searches for something to read while spike is away on business. When she accidentally stumbles upon an ancient tome, will her sanity survive the encounter? What details are held inside the dusty relic and why does Twilight start acting so weird. There's not much else I can say without ruining the story. It's dark, It's twisted, It's crazy. Enjoy

Note: It was a bit inspired by hotdiggitydemom's magic, mainly the graveyard scene, but the similarities end there.

Jesus christ, that cover art made me jump. My computer doesn't load images very quickly, so all I saw was a blank white space, and then suddenly... BAM! That image appears out of nowhere, like a nazi dinosaur.

Huh, It's interesting that nobody read this. I guess I'm the only one who likes dark fantasy? LOL

This was pretty interesting to read. So... at the end, did Twilight destroy Spike's soul (the grey "sliver") in order to revive all other dead in Equestria to do her bidding or something? Pretty creepy but a great read nonetheless! How does she think it will enlighten the world?

583099 Yes, pretty much she used his soul for power to raise the dead. The whole point is that the book contains untold amounts of evil. Years and years of evil magic and dark sorcery had been poured into the pages of it, and when Twilight reads it, the information contained inside the book drives her to insanity. Her "enlightenment" is our downfall. You see in there she talks about emotions and how they just get in the way of progress. Her whole goal was to raise the dead and hold mass genocide, then raise all of the freshly dead ponies. With those freshly raised ponies she would create a world in which she ruled; a world that is beyond comprehension to anybody else, one where emotions wouldn't get in the way of progress. :pinkiecrazy:

uuhhhhh... i think it would be better if there was a kinda long spiral of a decent to madness from Twilight. It woulda be better to see her struggle to stay sane and fight the book of dark magic. I like the ending though, although i feel bad for poor little spike. And it would be awesome if you wrote more about the way Twilight would rule the world with her terrifying dark magic. Shed make Spike her undead minion.

I can't stand fanfics that abuse Spike, but in this case it looks like it was only for the sake of horror, like killing off most of the mane cast in "Dear Princess Celestia". And the horror here was delicious. It was dark and creepy without being just flat-out gory, and the foreboding feelings over the horror that is about to befall Ponyville while Twilight is staring out the window were chilling. Loved that ending.
