Poor CAIRO. Even if ponykind doesn't forgive you, I do CAIRO. Just as Princess Cadence said, even if you did Mandeville's dirty work, you were a friend to Equestria to the end. So unless you miraculously come back, then rest in peace CAIRO.
Another captivating chapter as usual. This one had me in suspense for quite awhile; always wondering when CAIRO would see the light of things. Also, poor Soarin. May he rest in peace as well. I look forward to the next chapter.
Poor CAIRO... why'd he have to die? And Soarin too...
Things look like they might be starting to go better for once, and yet, I'm still just waiting for it all to fall apart. previous events in this story have me expecting the worse in every situation, because that's what usually seems to happen... Still, looking forward to more, and hopefully things can actually turn out well for once, as opposed to better than average.
I figured Cairo would either be convinced of the applicability of his "Do no harm to humans" rule (or whatever it was) to equines, or be convinced to terminate himself. Guess I was right on both counts.
Still, he could have turned off all his mics, or disabled all his networking, or something to prevent him from hearing the backup command. Perhaps even deleted his backups (though it would be possible to block this). With as large and as complicated a system as CAIRO, there has to be plenty of loopholes. He himself said he worked around some of his restrictions.
And... Einstein-Rosen Platform? I imagine that's not just a fancy name. An Einstein-Rosen Bridge is colloquially known as a WORMHOLE, and one theory is that they can be used to cross between universes. Looks like Mandeville is (or will be) trying to escape back to Earth?
I am still very curious as to when/if the dragons will show up and aid the battle. That would be awesome. Also, Corey and Rarity displayed affection towards one another in front of everyone and no one said a thing. Will the group (excluding twilight) find out about them?
I really like the outcome of this story and I want to know what Discord has to say about it. Sure he likes chaos but what about utter decimation of a species? Could be interesting. (Please bring in the dragons.)
Holy crap! That MISS system just annihilated the pegasi and the AAMS battle cruisers are now one of the biggest threats Mandeville can throw at them. If I am reading correctly, even after the recall and his shut down, they each have a dumbed down version of CAIRO within and are still fully operational. The drones under the lead CAIRO are now being recalled, but the rest are still fully aggressive and under their own control. Unless those dragons show up, the pegasi are dead. They have taken so much damage that they simply won't be able to defeat the battle cruisers, regardless of the lead drones retreating. Next chapter is going to be epic. The elements are ready for action and Rainbow is still in the game. The Einstein-Rosen battleform does leave me worried though
4779955 Haha, hey now, don't forget the slew of vaporized ponies.
4780859 I'd like it, believe me. I get a bit underexposed, probably because the synopsis isn't forthcoming about what's in store, and the title is only so descriptive Then there's having a grimdark story that also features prominent HiE plots. I did kinda target two minority story types and counted on people interested in both finding their way over.
If I was straightforward about the premise, it might get more attention, but it would also kill the initial air of mystery in the first act.
4781638 Well, it doesn't help that CAIRO designed them specifically so he couldn't realistically bypass them without having triggered a tamper alarm. We can argue all day that he could still have figured a way. He probably could have, given more time.
As to the platform... you'll just have to wait and see.
Perfect. An update with almost no negative happenings? CARIO disabled, the Elements returned, eveyone came out alive? It's a god damn miracle.

This story should have many more upvotes by now, like at least 2000.
