Applejack glanced over at Rainbow. "Awesomely heroic that day and awesomely arrogant ever since."
"Mm-hm." Pinkie and Twilight nodded.
"So," Twilight asked, "what are we going to do about it?"
Applejack winked. "Well, I've always figured honesty is the best policy." She walked over to Rainbow Dash and shoved away the adoring fans. "Rainbow, can we talk?"
"Well, I am pretty busy with all my fame, but I guess I can spare a minute with an old friend." Rainbow led Applejack to a quieter corner. "So, what's up?"
"Rainbow. You've gotten a big head."
She laughed. "Applejack, my head's the same size it's always been."
"No, no. You're getting full of yourself. Too proud and too arrogant. It's fine to be awesome and all, but it's not good to shove it in everypony's faces."
Rainbow rolled her eyes. "But..."
Applejack stopped her with a stare. "Remember Trixie?"
"Yeah."
"Don't be Trixie."
It took a few moments for it to sink into Rainbow's head. "Oh! I get it!"
"You get what?" Applejack looked on hoping it had worked.
"I can still be awesome, but I just need to be nice about it, too." Rainbow smiled.
"Well..." Applejack shook her head. "Close enough."
"Don't be Trixie."
Wow. Three words that - even in canon - would have invalidated one of the most controversial episodes of the series. If I knew where to find one, I'd throw up a slow clap gif.
If there was one episode in which this fic's version was true instead of the show, this would be that episode.

Heh, yeah. ^.^
I loved that little bit, and it's just so much more tidy.
5334202
Of course, a way you could have incorporated Mare-do-Well anyway...
Rainbow: Hey, girls, maybe you could all be awesome with me? Would that be better to wallow in Make the awesome a group effort?
Applejack: Well, that might be nice. It'd be nice to get cheered for as a group, like we did back when we stopped Nightmare Moon...and Discord...I mean, how often are events like that going to happen?
Pinkie: At least twice a season.
Fluttershy: But...how would we manage it? I mean, not all of us are physically fit enough to do things like that...
Rarity: Hmm...maybe they wouldn't have to cheer for all of us...maybe they could cheer for one of us who was all of us.
Twilight: Rarity, while I do know such a spell, the consequences of a long term group fusion are not to be contemplated.
Rarity: Not what I meant, darling.
Rainbow: What did you mean?
Rarity: Well, what if we all worked together to keep saving the day - Fluttershy using her animal speech to learn where the day will need saving ahead of time, your speed, Applejack's strength, Pinkie's Pinkie sense, and Twilight's magic - in identical costumes of my design? The town would be cheering for one new superhero...who was all of us!
Rainbow: You mean I get to be a genuine superhero? AWESOME!
Twilight: Sounds like fun.
Pinkie: Oh boy, we're fixing canon!
And thus Rarity makes six Mare-do-Well outfits.
I would have thought that Rainbow Dash would have already known to not brag about how awesome she is.
Scootaloo may be the smartest and most noble of them all.
KBO.
Now we need a bumper sticker. "Don't be Trixie."
THANK YOU!

Yep. That's pretty much the episode synopsis right there.
5334458
Yes! Somebody make it happen!
5334462
Um... you're welcome?
5334504 For fixing this episode, I meant.
The Alternate (Universe) Way to do it!
5335226
Aye.
5334918
Ah, I see.
Congratulations, you just fixed this episode. I approve of this chapter.
Pretty much... this episode was just terrible in my opinion... Rainbow would have been CRUSHED at the way her "friends" were treating her
Best summation ever.
5363205 Agreed.
This wins all of my YES, far much better than what I could've come up with!
This was funny, but I'm in the minority on the actual episode, because The Mysterious Mare Do Well is actually one of my favorite season two episodes.
"You know, of there weren't any more disasters, she couldnt save ponies and be arrogant" said Rarity
"What if we preemptively stop disasters fom happening?" suggested Twilight. So they did, and there was nothing left for RD to be heroic about, but there were still small disasters, and Twilight learned the lesson that you can't stop ecerything bad from happening, thus killing this episode and It's About Time in one fell swoop. Yay!
