Chapter 18: 1906

Nebraska, September 1906. Nikola Tesla was invited to a convention to show the people of Nebraska something they've never saw previously, The Tesla Coil. Nikola arrived with his assistant at the time, Avery Davidson. The venue for the convention was a hall near a vineyard, it was just as cold inside the hall as it was outside in the snow, Tesla had just finished his third presentation of the day, he was booked for six presentations just in-case some people missed it out the first time. His fourth presentation was in forty minutes, so he decided to wonder around the convention with Avery,

"Mr. Tesla, you did another fine presentation back there" Avery complimented.

"Thank you, Avery" Tesla replied.

"Oh yes, I almost forgot to inform you, Mr. Tesla. Whilst you were presenting the Coil, I was told that a certain Mr. Mark Twain has came here to visit you" Avery told him.

"Mark is here? I haven't seen him in ages, I'll go see him, thanks for informing me, Avery" Tesla thanked, "You can come with me if you want to, I know you love to read Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn on our breaks" Nikola said.

"Sure, Mr. Tesla. It would be an honor to meet the man" Avery replied.

The two made it over to Mark Twain, who was talking to two other gentlemen, one who was fairly old and had a slightly long beard, the other one was another fairly old man, but he was also rather plump. When Tesla and Davidson arrived, Mark Twain looked happy to see Tesla,

"Nikola!" He greeted as he went over to him.

"Mark! How have you been?" Nikola replied.

Twain came and gave Tesla a brief hug for greeting. Tesla thought it was better than shaking hands as he doesn't like to do that,

"Nikola, that was a fine presentation for what I saw of it" Twain said.

"Thank you, Mark. How's your biography coming along?" Tesla asked.

"It's coming along well" Mark replied.

"How many pages have you done?" Tesla asked.

"Over seven hundred" Twain replied.

"That's really good, Mark" Tesla said, "Oh, this is my assistant, Avery Davidson"

Mark Twain looked at Avery and smiled, he then leaned forward to shake hands with the young man,

"It's nice to you, Avery"

"It's an honor to meet you, sir. I'm a big admirer of your work, Mr. Twain" Avery said.

"Please, call me Mark. An acquaintance of Nikola of an acquaintance of mine" Twain replied.

"Thank you, sir...I mean Mark" Avery said.

Twain focused his attention on Nikola again, "Oh, Nikola, here's two men I'd like you to meet"

"Hello, Mr. Tesla. My name is Hiram Maxim, I'm fond of your work. This is my colleague, Benjamin Hotchkiss" The man introduced himself.

"It's a pleasure to meet you both" Nikola said.

"We think what you've done for science is outstanding. If you could spare just a minute of your time, me and Hiram would like to share a blueprint with you" Benjamin said to Tesla.

"Of course" Tesla said, "Is it a piece of machinery?"

"Yes, we both figured you might find it interesting" Hiram said.

"What's your machine called?" Tesla asked.

"We were hoping you could help us with that" Benjamin replied.

Back in Twilight's basement. Tesla was sitting down on his chair, staring at a piece of metal that he stole from the junkyard to make the machine that read "No. 1906", it made him remember what happened during that convention. He was bored in the basement, he thought he was going to work on the pulse some more after he and Twilight came back from getting something to eat, but he didn't feel bothered to do so. He just procrastinated as he felt the minutes tick away, he got up from the chair, paced around for a little bit and laid on the floor, only to get back up again. He then decided to do something stupid, for the hell of it. He wondered if he could walk for one side of the room to the other, on two legs. He went to the back of the room and lifted his torso up with the chair and a shelf near it, he was now on two hooves, but shaking as he tried to keep himself balanced,

"I'm probably going to hurt myself doing this" Tesla thought to himself, "Well, to hell with it"

Tesla took his first step, he lunged over, but regained his balance whilst still shaking, he kept moving, he thought he was doing well,

"Yes! I'm doing it!" He cheered for himself.

He was almost to the other side of the room, but he felt a slight tingle in his left leg, he then lunged over more and more, until he realized his leg can't take it,

"Oh shit" Tesla uttered before thudding to the floor.

He then laid on the floor once more, this time with a pained chin. From the angle of where he was lying, he looked grumpy. Then, Twilight came in after she heard him hit his foreleg off the machine before thudding to the ground, but when she came in and saw Nikola, she began to laugh,

"Oh my, Nikola" She chuckled, "What happened?"

"I tripped" Tesla replied in a grumpy tone.

Twilight continued to laugh a bit more, "You look so sad from down there"

"I'll get up" Nikola said as he pushed himself up from off the floor.

"How come you're not working on the thing?" Twilight asked.

"I'm bored, simply put" He told her.

"How did you trip?" Twilight asked jokingly.

"I...slipped on...a.." Nikola tried to make an excuse.

Twilight looked at him with a slightly raised eyebrow and a smirk,

"Is that really what happened?" Twilight asked.

"Yeah...yeah, of course" Tesla replied.

"Okay then" Twilight smiled smugly.

"Okay, I tried to walk on two legs" Tesla said.

"Why did you do that?" Twilight asked smiling still.

"I miss my old body" Tesla replied.

"Oh" Twilight uttered, with the smile gone from her face.

"I saw this number on a piece of metal, it reminded me of something that happened about six years ago, in my world of course. In fact, I need to ask you something, Twilight" Tesla said.

"What it it?" She asked first.

"It's a type of machinery, it's pretty advance though" Tesla replied.

"What's it called?" Twilight asked.

"My friends called it, the Mark V" Tesla replied.
