There are Alicorns whose domain lies with the Sun, the Moon, love and eventually even magic itself. But a new variable has entered the world. A new immortal being that resides within one of the most dangerous places in this strange version of Earth. His domain lies with the natural world, the true wild unlike the carefully constructed order prevalent inside of Equestria.

He has no knowledge of the world he's in.

He used to be a human.

And now...Now he is something far greater than he could have ever imagined.

Despite the somewhat serious'ish beginning for the first chapter, this fic will probably more of a slice-of-life story focusing on exploration and Alicorn magic. This is part writing exercise and part motivation to get me back to my Harry Potter story, which is why you'll see elements of the Royal Guard from that story in this one.

At the very back of Sunset Shimmer's tiny vanity drawer lay a barely-touched pack of pressed powder eyeshadow. It was a shimmery pale lilac that clashed horrifically with her skin tone. The only time she had ever used it was on an ill-fated date night with Flash Sentry. It was crumbly and a good few months past the expiration date.

Sometimes, she decided on a whim to throw it out but never quite managed to go through with it.

Sometimes, she idly swatched it across her palm and thought of the very similar eye pigment that Princess Celestia often wore.

Princess Celestia wore a lot of makeup - a quirk not shared by her otherwordly counterpart, much to Sunset's fascination. Every morning since she was a child, Sunset had woken up to see her mentor put on a full face of sweet-smelling powdery makeup.

"See, my dear student? All it takes is a little powder and my subjects will never know that I'm as prone to wrinkling up as the rest of them!" Celestia had always laughed. And several years after she left, Sunset had always wondered if the tired-looking, bare-faced mare she had seen in the mornings had been the real Celestia after all. The mare behind the mask that nopony else had ever seen.

When Sunset had decided to rule over Canterlot High, she'd tricked a freshman into giving her a tube of mascara. To let none of the humans know that the Queen Bitch was as human as the rest of them.

Princess Luna finds herself trapped on the surface of a moon she once commanded. Soon, however, the dark alicorn will encounter an occasion she won't forget.
