I don't feel sad that this is the last season of MLP. I suppose it may hit me when I watch the final episode, but that will depend on how good the season is overall. But before the season premieres, here is what I'd like to see happen before the show ends...and what I hope doesn't happen. Warning: these ramblings contain mild spoilers – nothing earth-shattering, just information from the S9 episode synopses.
Want to happen:
In which Celestia and Luna vastly overestimate Twilight Sparkle's capabilities, old villains return for revenge, and the Tree of Harmony gets kerblammed.
To everyone who insisted that I write out a Shining/Sombra clopfic this month as part of my Patreon-winning poll, let me just say...
Y'all picked a reeeeeaaaallllllllly poorly-timed ship to dabble into so soon after the events of the Season 9 premiere.
Okay, so. Naomi Novik's Temeraire series are fun enough, as they're basically "Horatio Hornblower meets Pern," but those books kind of pale in comparison to her feminist take on fairy tales, Uprooted. Rightly lauded when it came out, Uprooted has a lot of cool stuff going on, subverting various tropes-- and even subverting the subversions of those tropes, and--
In which Twilight goes Twileynanas about a library book she never returned...in Canterlot.
I saw it. I can’t really go into a lot of depth about my opinion because my current responsibilities aren’t giving me that kind of time, so I’m just going to make a list.
In which Twilight abandons all her responsibilities to act like a bratty little sister again with Shining Armor and EVERYPONY has best face.
And well, I'm of a few different minds on this.
Well, figured it was about time I got around to doing this, now that I'm taking a very short break from writing.
So let's get it outta my system - I don't like season 9. No, at the level of individual episodes it not that bad. The problem starts at the overarching plot - this whole transfer of power.
First of all there literally no explanations why the heck Luna and Celestia chooses to step down. No one even bothered to give them believable reasons to do this. It's a change for the sake of change - the whole Celestia speech at Twilight coronation pretty much this.
1.) As of this weekend, I managed to catch up with the entirety of Season 9 so far (I haven't watched the premiere until Friday, and I saw the other two episodes on Saturday night). So for the first time in a long time, I am officially up to date with the show, AND haven't been spoiled on upcoming details! That means I can be more engrossed in the show, and can do things like my next announcement...
2.) Expect to see something unexpected this morning. ;)
1 minute... one fucking minute. They've had years to prepare and it only take Sombra one Celestia damn minute to conquer the entire Crystal Empire. So what do the Princesses do in light of Shining Armor's defensive failure? Why, the only reasonable thing one could do in their position and put him in charge of their castle's total security system!
So, uh, I USUALLY don't bother with episode recaps/reviews/etc, buuuuut I honestly haven't been as stoked for NEW PONE as I am for this last hurrah of a season, so here we are. Spoilers, yo.
I'll not bore y'all with a beat by beat breakdown, because I didn't want to keep pausing the video just to jot things down. Still, some thoughts:
Not a bad premiere. Didn't quite end the way I was expecting, but still excited!
Hard to believe it's been over eight years since I started watching this "show for little girls".
In that time, I've changed careers, gotten engaged, and gotten married. My how time flies.
So let's go, gang. Once more around the bend.
I have a theory about season 9 but It could just be from being awake too long with too many Monster Coffees.
If you haven't seen season 8, I dont recomend reading further unless you like spoilers.
The final scene of season 8 was Cozy Glow being dropped offnext to Tirek in Tartarus and her first words to him were very ominous to me.
Cozy Glow: "Hey Neighbor, Wanna Be Friends?"
The Big Mac Problem- A story destined to be overshadowed due to its placement in the season, which is a shame. Felt like the last 'classic' style' episode playing to the show's strengths. Humor was on point, and while I'm not a fan of this ship it made me like Sugar Belle more. Nice how they slipped Lyra and BonBon (my favorite background pone) proposing in. 3 and a half out of 5.
First of all I haven't seen any of season 9 so please don't spoil it. Secondly, does anyone know when season 9 will come to an online streaming service like Netflix? I can't actually see what episodes Netflix has without buying a subscription. It doesn't have to be netflix, any legal online streaming service that doesn't charge per-episode. I'd like to be able to watch season 9 but I don't have live TV so I couldn't watch them as they aired and finding episodes online is really difficult.
