Tumbleweed vs. Uprooted · 9:27pm Apr 14th, 2019
Okay, so. Naomi Novik's Temeraire series are fun enough, as they're basically "Horatio Hornblower meets Pern," but those books kind of pale in comparison to her feminist take on fairy tales, Uprooted. Rightly lauded when it came out, Uprooted has a lot of cool stuff going on, subverting various tropes-- and even subverting the subversions of those tropes, and--
Oh wait we're talking about the pony show, aren't we?
And, uh ... huh. It's ... basically Castle Mane-ia, just with the new toys characters. And it looks like Grogar and co are probably going to just lurk in the background 'til the series finale, and ... uh, yeah.
Admittedly, it's hard to follow up the balls-out craziness of the series opener, but still. Kind of funny that Spike mentioned "Oh hey Sombra's not coming back" with the unstated "because that dude got got." And, y'know, I'm not much a fan of the "Young Six" or whatever to begin with, but I'm a grown-ass man, so very outside the target demographic it honestly doesn't matter what I think.
Still! Next week's ep (the 200th episode!) looks like it should be pretty fun. So I'll be looking forward to that, at the very least.
But until then, go read some Naomi Novik.
LOL, cool.
I really should read Naomi Novik. I spent the late 90s early 2000s hearing all about her from the other players on Transformers 2005 MUSH. She played a fairly memorable Soundwave before she started publishing books, apparently.
Huh. I liked the Temeraire books, so I should check out Uprooted sometime.
And I thought the pony episode was all right.
Yeah, Uprooted was a great book. Spinning Silver, too.
