Thoughts on the Season 9 Premiere · 1:41am Apr 11th, 2019
I saw it. I can’t really go into a lot of depth about my opinion because my current responsibilities aren’t giving me that kind of time, so I’m just going to make a list. 
- I can’t believe that part 2 happened the way it did.
I was so sure that the Mane 6 were still trapped in a super powerful fear illusion spell up until the Princess Sisters and Starswirl showed up. I don’t know if it was the way that Sombra and Twilight emphasized the phrase “worst fear” or if I was just still in denial over the Tree getting destroyed. - That scene with Pinkie and the Cakes was a horrible mixture of funny and heart-wrenching. I felt so bad for laughing.
- You know, I suspected that Discord had been faking.
I’ve seen less sap come out of him in a Fluttercord fic, and that’s saying something (no offense to Fluttercord writers). That's what gave him away. - Sombra’s voice sounds like a weak Scar from The Lion King impression. That’s all I have to say about it.
- Sombra’s characterization is making me think that the writers might have read Flash Sentry, Crystal Darkness by Banshee531.
- Celestia and Luna’s retirement and Twilight’s subsequent freak out reminds me of The Phoenix Tear by CartoonNerd12.
- Don’t get mad at me for this, but I think this premiere makes quite a case for Fluttercord. I don’t care one way or the other about Fluttercord, but I can see it working out. I know I just offended a whole bunch of Dislestia shippers by saying that, but I honestly can’t really see much of a spark between Discord and Celestia either in this episode or any other episode.
- Dang! That’s the most fight I’ve seen out of Twilight in any major crisis, even before she gets her confidence back. I mean, I know that she’s no pushover, but the amount of will and determination she shows in this premiere was just inspiring.
Yeah, that’s pretty much it. All I have to say now is that I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. 
Well, you'll get no argument out of me for that. I thought his voice (and Chrysalis' too) are weaker than they were originally revealed.
My thoughts exactly. If it's been a few weeks and nobody's made a Fluttercord story based off this episode, I might just go "screw it" and write it myself. :)

I think he was the villain in that story that Twilight was reading to the sick foals in "A Flurry of Emotions." He was also from G1.

I kinda just thought it showed how fond of Fluttershy Discord was as a friend. He seemed to be that way with every member of the Main Six in the episode.

Exactly, and from where I'm sitting, Celestia and Discord don't even have that, so 🤷. He did say that Fluttershy was his favorite though, so it sounds to me as if he's especially fond of her, maybe not in a romantic way but enough that if the relationship did become romantic, it wouldn't be surprising.
I just figured that Sombra could tell what they were most afraid of at that moment and he capitalized on it. As for Twilight, it was the reality that she failed

This actually reminds of me of Tolkien, in his works the great evil might come back but is always reduced in its might.
If anything it's based on the Sombra Fiendship is Magic comic... which Banshee based his fic on.

I’m not saying that.
I’m just saying that I loved the chemistry between Twilight and Discord in the episode, and I definitely thought that how much Discord was rooting for Twilight, even if it didn’t seem like it, was something that TwiCord fans would very much enjoy.
There are a couple more thing I have to say about the Season 9 opener... I hope it's not the last time we have Sombra. Him being Thanosed by the Mane 6 just doesn't feel satisfactory.
Now him giving his life to atone and stop Grogar, that would be satisfying.
On that note, I don't expect either him, or Tirek or Chrysalis to actually be reformed, redeemed but not reformed, and to be honest, it wasn't until the introduction of Grogar that sold me on Tirek being redeemed. As for Cozy, I expect a full reformation, maybe a couple of steps behind Starlight in the process, as for Grogar... if there is to be one irredeemable villain it should be him not Sombra
