Things I'd like to see in S9 · 10:54am Mar 23rd, 2019
I don't feel sad that this is the last season of MLP. I suppose it may hit me when I watch the final episode, but that will depend on how good the season is overall. But before the season premieres, here is what I'd like to see happen before the show ends...and what I hope doesn't happen. Warning: these ramblings contain mild spoilers – nothing earth-shattering, just information from the S9 episode synopses.
Want to happen:
1) Cozy Glow obviously needs a resolution. An unrepentant, overpowered pegasus foal with no apparent family isn't going to stay in Tartarus forever. She'll probably cajole Cerberus into letting her out. Or, failing that, she'll find Sombra (who was in Tartarus the whole time) and they'll team up with Tirek and escape.
2) Speaking of non-unicorn villains, I'd love to see a formidable earth pony villain in the vein of a pony version of Gloriosa Daisy or that unnamed sorceress who Clover the Clever fought in “Forgotten Friendship.” I won't be too upset if it doesn't happen, but it would make me very happy if it does.
3) Scootaloo's disability needs to be addressed. I once read a fanfic that gave her a cloud scooter to assist her in flying, and I think that would be a lovely way to show how people with disabilities find ways to improve their quality of life. Or Meadowbrook could heal her – I'm good either way.
4) An explanation of how Spike's egg came to Canterlot is long overdue. Maybe that would give them some clue of who Spike's biological parents are/were. And with Ember as the Dragonlord, perhaps conditions would be more favorable for Spike to search for them.
5) It almost feels too late for this, but another zebra besides Zecora would not be unwelcome. It still feels weird to try to get a feel for an entire species based on one individual.
6) This isn't essential, but I think that the kirin have more storytelling potential. I wouldn't mind seeing the specifics of how they learn to control their anger and be honest with each other without causing a meltdown.
7) At one time I would have said that I want to see the Cake twins look older, but honestly, they've been babies for so long that I think it would be hilarious for them to just stay that way. Either that or the animators could put in a “Five years later” title card and age up everyone.
Don't want to happen:
1) Characters regressing, especially the Mane 6 and Spike. If the writers can't think of any new friendship lessons, they shouldn't write any new episodes that focus on them. I'd rather the old characters be demoted to supporting roles than act annoying for 22 minutes.
2) Starlight becoming a princess before any of the other Mane 6. I'd actually feel fine if the other five and even Starlight became alicorns in the final episode, but if Starlight ascended and no one else, it would rub me the wrong way. Even though Starlight has grown on me since S5, I still see her as a latecomer who hasn't had to work as hard as the other five.
My wish list is rather short because the series has already tied up a lot of loose ends. Twilight became an alicorn, Rainbow joined the Wonderbolts, the CMC earned their cutie marks, and we finally saw all of the main ponies' parents – even Applejack's. Plus, Spike grew wings and the show came the closest it's ever come to acknowledging that Twilight is a mother figure to him. We also have a bona fide earth pony sorceress, an OP pegasus villain, and plenty of world-building for the changelings, griffons, and other species. Also, according to the S9 trailer, Celestia and Luna will retire and pass the throne to Twilight, like many fans have speculated. The series has had a good run, all told. Here's hoping it ends with a bang.
Same here. I'm sad it's going, but at the same time, I hope it goes out with a bang.
Yeah, I agree on the part with Starlight. That would cause... a meltdown. I hope too things some things get addressed, like Spike's egg and Scootaloo's wings. I also want to see other plot elements addressed in EG.

If that scenario happened with Starlight, I'm sure plenty of fans besides me would be peeved.
And honestly, EG is so unpredictable that I don't know what to expect. I guess I would like to see the girls do more with the geodes - they use them for mundane projects and stopping magical villains, but nothing in between.
