Welp. Here we are. Nine years and nine seasons later, FiM has finally drawn the curtains. It's over. But I don't think that means we're over. Y'know, as in, "we're gonna keep this party going until the last man finally dies."

Will Gen 5 be as good? Maybe. Will it have as much impact as Friendship is Magic did? Doubt it. They'd need to pull out all the stops to make it as memorable as possible, and coming off FiM's coattails, that's a tall order to fill.

We're officially at the halfway point of Season 9, and I'm pleasantly surprised with the quality of episodes so far. I admit, after the lackluster S8, I was prepared not to like this season. Perhaps my lowered expectations helped me enjoy the season more. The weakest episode was "Uprooted," but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as "Non-Compete Clause." Basically at the end of season 8 Cozy Glow doesn't try to trap the Main 6 in Tartarus. Rather, she traps them in a time spell that sends them all to different timelines/universes.The same timelines we saw in Cutie Remark and a few we didn't see.

The season ends with her ascending to Alicorn and laying claim to the throne.
She also scattered Discord into six parts with the same spell across these timelines.

So, the word has come down and it's official: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic will be ending after Season 9. We still have a couple of rumored TV specials afterward, but as far as a regular TV show goes, it's all over. The new MLP movie Hasbro announced during Toy Fair will most likely be the start of Gen 5, and who knows what form that will take.¹
