As f’r me, if’t be true I wast fortuned, mine own fate wouldst be to marrye a valorous sir and beare that gent children. But then I wast walking through the moors near the abbey in Ponyshire, and I tumbl’d in. I bethought I wast dead – naught valorous cometh of falling into a bog! But then I

IRL Update, and Where I've been. · 5:30am Apr 24th, 2016

I am currently going through some very, very personal things IRL, but it's nothing that should concern you. I most likely wont return until tomorrow at around 2:30 Pacific Standard Time, but then again I could be wrong. Thank you all for your patience.

Before I forget to mention it, I finally bought Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright- Ace Attorney. So far, I love it. I'd say it was absolutely worth the $50 spent on it.

I have basically been using this to turn Luna's lines into Old English https://lingojam.com/EnglishtoShakespearean

Any thoughts on the new version of Growing Suns And Moon new first chapter? Or shall I return it back to normal?

MisterEdd gave me the link in my last blog post.

How Long Have I Been Asleep? · 4:23am May 25th, 2017

South-England, it seems, is going through a couple of cloudless days.
It's good for my surroundings and general mood but it sure ain't that good for my sleeping patterns.
I get the distinct impression it's only been dark for four hours (Probably about six or seven really, I don't keep time all too well)

Luna for Dummies · 8:28am Jan 30th, 2015

Through a combination of getting really sick of seeing people butcher Luna's archaic speech in their fics and happening to be studying the subject at the time, a few months ago I decided to make a simple guide to writing Luna dialogue correctly. I put it off way too long, and I'm not even sure it's relevant anymore, since Luna's rehabilitation has kinda passed as a fad in the fimfiction community, but here it is anyway:

HITALTCAASHR part 3.2: Teaching English: 1987-1990 · 1:03am May 8th, 2017

This post is an attempt to fill in a bit of the gap in the history of the Literary Left between 1970 and now, by summarizing trends in (Lloyd-Jones & Lunsford 1989, Davis & Mirabella 1990, Elbow 1990, Leitch 2010, Harbach 2014). It's the last in its "series" of grumpy-old-man

Being not a native English speaker has some perks. Getting to know some translated versions of (not just) English songs is just a minor advantage, but a fun one nonetheless. It’s also something I don’t research actively, most of the time at least, I just notice some tunes being similar when listening to my endless playlists on YouTube.

The T-V Distinction, or how the French caused the Quakers to be attacked six hundred years after they conquered England · 11:00am Nov 11th, 2014

My most recent story, Dawn, talks a great deal about the implications of politeness held by the words you and thou. While the story teaches about the distinction between the words, and talks about how thou is insulting, if one was a linguistic nerd, one might wonder: why did the pronoun thou exist in the first place? Indeed, why is it that people see thou as being a formal word, if it was, in fact, so

Is Apple family cider alcoholic? · 9:37pm Nov 1st, 2014

Random thoughts on waking up on the morning after nightmare night.

One of the peculiarities of the English language is that the word cider can refer to either an intoxicating liquid made from fermented pressed apples; or a non-alcoholic unfermented beverage of the same juice. Anything sold as cider in Britain contains alcohol. In North America, it is, more often than not, the other sort.

HITALTCAASHR, Part 2: What are English departments teaching? · 3:22am May 5th, 2017

Over the past 15 years, the proclaimed purpose of "English" classes at colleges and universities and in grades K-12 in America has shifted from teaching English or English literature to teaching "social justice". ("Social justice" in all cases turns out to mean "the ideology of Social Justice Warriors.")

It's raining again · 6:56pm Jun 16th, 2019

Rain, rain, go away,
Come back another day,

Words spoken mostly by the English. We've been getting it a lot lately, and towns and villages around the country have succumbed to flooding. I'm all for enjoying the rain, but there is such thing as too much rain. Still, I prefer it over sun. Give me rain / snow any day of the year, but, please, Mr Rain Cloud, learn some restraint. Don't make me come up there, mister!
