It feels like the writers of G5 were just staring at the wall, agreeing that they have a creative block. All they had to work with was a toy of a cart that Hasbro would sell DLCs for.

More story ideas, more character twists, more world building, etc.

Besides, AUs being a thing helps to keep headcanons valid.
