Review: O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) · 9:30pm Aug 22nd, 2015

O Brother, Where Art Thou? stands as one of the most unique films in the already supremely unique filmography of the Coen Brothers.

Review: Miller's Crossing (1990) · 9:20pm Sep 22nd, 2015

The Coen Brothers' third film does what a great Coen Brothers film should always do: Take a genre (this time gangster films), deconstruct it with a sardonic and dry wit, only to then spin around and become one of the great entries in the very genre it's deconstructing.

Review: West Side Story (1961) · 12:54am Oct 20th, 2015

Those who hate musicals, hate life.

The 1961 cinematic adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet still holds up remarkably well 54 years after it’s original release.

Review: The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) · 8:38pm Jun 3rd, 2016

A surprisingly upbeat and chipper film, yet still carrying their trademark biting satire, the Coen Brother's fifth feature was, and still is, a bit of a black sheep in their filmography. Instead of a brooding neo-noir like Miller's Crossing and Blood Simple, or the strange fever dream surrealism of Barton Fink, The Hudsucker Proxy instead takes its cues from the wild screwball zaniness of Raising Arizona, but instead of the quirky outback of Arizona, the

Review: The Big Short (2015) · 8:18pm Jan 27th, 2016

The Big Short is director Adam McKay's intentionally frenetic and bitingly satirical look at the 2008 global economic collapse, and, while it does manage to be an admiral attempt, ends up stumbling over it's own sense of self importance and self righteousness.

Review: Alien (1979) · 3:39am Jun 21st, 2015

This movie is fucked up man.

So I finally saw Ridley Scott's iconic sci-fi/horror landmark of claustrophobic horror and nightmare fuel Alien.

And dear God is it is possibly the most unadulterated horrifically terrifying films I've ever seen.

The Ensuing Calm · 2:44am Mar 2nd, 2018

Well I'm back as I said, feeling quite buzzed as the credits to the MLP movie are about done rolling. I'll try to make my thoughts on the whole thing coherent, but before I ramble on I will say this upfront: I was not all that offended by this film. In fact, it was okay. (Most of) The new characters introduced, the new locations, some of the songs I quite liked. That may be the alcohol talking and I may have different thoughts when I sobered up, but I'll give this movie a 7.5/10. Not that great

Review: Cinderella (2015) · 12:56am Oct 20th, 2015

Okay I actually watched this last week, but my internet was down, so I’m posting it now.

Go figure.

Kenneth Branagh’s live action adaptation/remake of the original 1950 Disney version of Cinderella manages to capture the spirit of the original almost perfectly, while still being able to stand on it’s own as a film.

Announcing Study And Its Protocol About Star Wars Episode # Ⅶ: The Force Awakens. · 10:49am Dec 22nd, 2015

I announce this study ahead of time and its protocol so that nopony can claim that I manipulate P-Values. A little context:

I am vocal that Abrams care nothing about continuity. Just look at what he did to Star Trek; he made Stino (Star-Trek-In-Name-Only). I was vocal about not wanting to see Swino (Star-Wars-In-Name-Only). Several ponies pointed out that I should not bash a movie without seeing it. Since they have a point, I shall see it.

Note: This review was written yesterday, but FIMFic has been giving me trouble on my phone, so I'm posting it today.

So yeah, after much procrastination on my part, I finally watched George Miller’s incredibly insane and mind blowingly awesome return to his desert punk roots, Mad Max: Fury Road.

Review: The Godfather (1972) · 12:55am Sep 21st, 2015

Coppola’s magnum opus continues to remain one of the definitive films about the Mafia, the American dream, and simply one of the greatest films ever made, outright.

A sprawling, 3 hour meditation and examination of the Corleone family, The Godfather serves as a study of not only the dynamics of mid-1940s Italian mob families, but also a study on such varied topics as manhood, the American Dream, greed, ambition and vengeance.

Review: Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) · 2:25am Aug 27th, 2015

In my continuing (and very belated) journey through the world of Mad Max, I have now seen the second entry in the franchise, and the one that most influenced the popular image of Mad Max on our end of the globe (the good old US of A).

The film I'm speaking of is, of course, The Road Warrior, which serves as a perfect sequel to the first film. And, in many ways, serves as a flash forwards of sorts to the absolutely awesome Fury Road, which would be released almost 30 years later.
