The light flicks on, revealing a platinum-coated unicorn, his slate eyes blinking in the sudden illumination. His mane is shortly cut, unkempt and a little shaggy. He catches sight of the mysterious stranger seated across from him and gives an annoyed look. You ask your first question. Gruffly, he replies, "So I get grabbed off the street, thrown into a bare room with a single desk-light shining in my face, and now you're asking me questions? What is this? Some kind of Mob talent-abduction thing? No? Oh well, Lyra isn't expecting me back anytime soon, so I guess I'll play your game.

"Let's see--name?" He nods in agreement. "Starting with the basics--good technique. My name: Grey Tiercel. That's pronounced 'teer-sull', by the way. Next... What is my favorite colour...? Well, that seems irrelevant, but it's your time, so..." His mind wanders, thinking of the recent change to his magical aura--the gentleness of amber eyes that sparked it. He shakes his head lightly, saying, "Green."

You ask your next question. "Interests, eh? OK, easy. I'm a detective. I like the chase. I like helping ponies. Music, books, a nice mug of tea... I'm a simple pony. I don't need much--which is good since I can't really afford it!" He laughs as you ask your next question. His head tilts as he thinks. "Genre... Most anything, I guess. I suppose I listen to a lot of oldies--a lot of jazz, big band, and swing from Manehattan's glory days. Lyra's been trying to get me into more modern stuff, with mixed success."

Maybe find her old home, see what's left from her old life. As for my own things..." He rubs his chin. "Difficult. It would be damn tough losing all my books, but I don't think I could pick any three... Well, if it counts I'd definitely have to save my hat." He flicks the brim, flashing a grin. "The shirt Mrs. Melody knitted for me for Hearth's Warming would have to be saved, too... And a third. Hrm..." He claps the table as realization strikes. "My investigator's license! I'd need that to keep working, and it'd be a bitch to get another." Activating his magic, he leans the chair back and takes a casual stance. "As for my walls, what isn't blocked by used bookshelves, I have covered with various tapestries. They balance well with the rugs all over my floor."

He waits until you finish writing down his answers then, impatient, picks up the list with his magic. He says, "Let me see that." His eyes move back and forth as he reads the remaining questions. He notices your annoyed look. "Sorry," he says, waving a hoof. "I just don't have all day. I'm supposed to take Lyra out for lunch, and Silver said something about wanting to discuss a book idea with Twilight--my schedule's full up. So let's see...

"Lost sense? That'd make life even more difficult as a detective. Every sense comes to play in some way or another. I suppose taste?" He nods. "Yeah, I could do without taste I suppose. Though I'd miss Melody's cooking. Anyway, moving on.

"I don't really want to be any sort of animal, though I guess my namesake would be an experience. My apartment is a bit small for pets. I've always dreamed of having a dog, though. He'd even help on my cases, too. Or a ferret." He looked at the list again. His cheeks flush, and he won’t meet your eyes for a second as he scratches the back of his neck. “Um, well… It’s pretty damn cheesy, but for long time I thought I was going to die in some back alley, a knife in my throat or maybe my skull caved in. That’s OK, it comes with the job. But I would have nightmares of me in that alley, alone, dead and rotting. Nopony after me, nopony missing me.”

The unicorn stops, letting out a slow sigh. After a few moments of silence, he says, “But then I stumbled upon a few ponies and we had a few adventures and…” A laugh bursts from his lips. “We became friends. For the first time in my life, I had ponies I could trust. Ponies who cared about me, as I cared about them. And Lyra--well, she became something even more.”

Giving an all-too-obvious fake cough, Grey continued. “‘One thing I really like about myself’. Heh. Well, about a year ago I’d have said little to nothing. If I had to pick, I’d say it’s my talent.” He gestures to the mark on his flank--that of three hoof prints underneath a hand-held microscope. “I’m good at finding things--specifically ponies, usually foals.

“The job isn’t easy--in fact, a lot of the time it’s damned miserable. But every single pony I’ve found, I’ve saved? Just one makes it all worth it. That’s my purpose in life. And that? That is a wonderful thing.

“Uh, sorry. Guess that sounds a little...much. So next question. The summer? Oh definitely the street vendors that fill Central Park. You can find some crazy things. Plus all the work that comes my way! I mean, catching purse-snatchers and pickpockets doesn’t pay much, but it’s easy work and it adds up.” Grey gave a hearty laugh.

Using his magic, he flipped to the second page of questions. “Hmm… Toothpaste is toothpaste--whatever’s cheapest and preferably tastes of spearmint, though.” At the next he blinked. Then blinked again. “What the hell is Coke and Pepsi?” Shaking his head, he grumbled, “Stupid nonsense questions. Now I know you work for the government. Is this some new polling technique the mayor’s trying?”

He put up a hoof before you could speak. “Don’t bother. I’ll finish. Grey Tiercel doesn’t start what he can’t finish.” He peered at the page. “Ten years from now? Uh…” Eyes glazing slightly, Grey’s mind took him to places he never expected he could dream. Blushing, he cleared his throat, saying, “Uh, we’ll skip that one.

“Worst thing? Nothing in particular stands out, y’know? I mean. I’ve made my share of mistakes. Have my bucket of regrets. But I’m not one to let that hold me back. If I was, I’d never get anywhere. I’d have died a long time ago. The streets of Manehattan--especially for an orphaned unicorn?--don’t have time for your regrets. As for the best day, I’d repeat my answer for greatest gift.”

Grey made a thoughtful noise, then added, “Though if I wanted to be more specific--the day I stumbled upon an unconscious and cut up Dustdigger and Lyra, lying amidst some broken glass outside of a museum in the middle of the night. I took them back to my office, starting our amazing adventure.

“Now--most influential...what’s a person? I think you misspelled ‘pony’. How odd. Anyway--I’m torn between Mrs. Sweet Melody and Lyra Heartstrings. Really, I suppose I should just credit it to both of them. They’re always there to kick my flank when the past rears its ugly head, y’know? Neither of them gave up on me, hopeless, drunken wreck that I was. They’ve changed my life, for good and for the better.”

The unicorn gave a black grin when he read the next question. “Hah! Oh I don’t know. ‘Just another bucked from the wild ride’? No, that’s more Clarken’s style. I really don’t know--I’ll leave it to others. They probably know me a bit better.”

Laying down the list, Grey stood and began pacing. Before you can object, he says, “Now now, don’t get your bridle in a twist. I just dislike sitting for so long, that’s all. I’ll finish.

“I read as much as I can when I’m not working. It’s really my only downtime. Which leads right into the next one. Paperwork. A damned necessary evil, but Celestia, it drives me up a wall. If I could walk the beat without the MPD getting on my case…”

Grey nearly spat, thinking about his old employers. Even now, several years since they blacklisted him, their mere mention burned him up. Move on, old timer, he told himself.

“Exercise--I try and do it every day. Well, every other day.” A long pause. “At least once a week.” He grumbled. “OK, no less than three times a month. I mean--urrgh. It’s important in this line of work to be as fit as possible, y’know? But there’s so little time--and the job itself is exercise, really, when you think about it. I mean, I do a lot of running. And jumping. And climbing and fighting.” A little defensively, he added, “That should count.

He started counting off in his head. “Favorite time of day is evening. Yes, it’s the most dangerous, but it’s also when I know I’m being completely tested. When it’s me or whatever criminal I’m after. That feeling that you could die any second? In a way it’s the best way to truly feel alive. No day is particularly special. As a private detective, I don’t get weekends, really. And instead of a month, why not a season? They’re all somewhat similar when you live in such a big city like Manehattan, but there is something about Autumn that just… I dunno, really makes it shine like no other time of year.”

Returning to his seat, he went on. “This next one is weird. Creepy even. I’ll pass, thanks. But for sounds that I love? Nothing beats Lyra’s playing, or her voice. I know it’s her talent and all, but I think she goes above and beyond a simple cutie mark. Melody’s pulled some strings--” He stopped, thinking about what he just said. “Er, used her connections to get her some opportunities to play in the city. You should check it out.”

Rocking his chair back and forth, Grey answered the next question with, “I don’t really have time to throw parties, or even go to them. Twilight’s told me about her friend Pinkie Pie and her famous party throwing talents, though. I’d like to do something like that for my friends. Too bad I’m dull and bad with things like that.”

Taking a moment to think of his next couple of answers, Grey idly asked, “Hey, before I finish this...eh, y’know, nevermind. Next question.

“The hardest thing I’ve ever done--and there are a lot of them, you understand--is probably using the street urchins as much as I have. I pay them, try to get as many as I can fed and off the streets… And I’ve been lucky so far. None have been hurt or...k-killed. But who am I fooling? It’s only a matter of time. Yet I continue to do so.”

He hangs his head, resting a hoof on his temple. He’s silent for a long time. Concerned, you begin to try and comfort him, but he holds a hoof, stopping you.

“”Last question. What annoys me most? Annoys really isn’t the word but…” The unicorn’s tone turns steely--cold and hard. Though controlled, you can hear the undercurrents of old, old anger. “Bigoted, heartless, bits for brains upper class unicorn twits,” he said, disgusted. “Really anypony who abuses those less fortunate than them. It pisses me off. Manehattan’s been a damned cesspool of suffering and crime because of ponies like that.”

Finished with his tirade, he let out a tired sigh. “There, that’s it. That’s everything you wanted to ask. Now--let’s stop fooling ourselves, shall we?”

Before you can ask what he means, the light on the table pops as its bulb explodes. The room grows dark, but brightens in a glimmering amber aura centered around Grey’s horn. You can see his face, hard and determined.

“No more games--I’m out of here!” he cried as the amber energy gathered into a rough, baseball-sized cube at the tip of his horn. “Move or I’ll Slug you. This is your only warning.”

Unsure exactly what he means, you step aside. Never turning his back to you, the hum of his magical energy buzzing, Grey sidesteps his way to the door, diverting a hair of magic in opening it.

“Well, in a way, it’s been fun. I don’t know what you’re game is, but remember: Manehattan is my town. If you’re planning anything--and I mean anything--even remotely below board…?” Suddenly the energy at the tip of his horn launches itself at the table, throwing it into the air and against the far wall. The table crashes loudly, twisting and bending despite its hard metal structure.

Your eyes had followed the table, but quickly you look back to the door.

It’s open, and empty. The unicorn, Grey Tiercel, is gone. You smile and wonder--is he in trouble again? Protecting the city he loves so dearly? Or maybe he’s gone home, off to meet his friends he cherishes so dearly. You look back at the table and sigh. You’ll have to replace it for the next candidate. But even still, you think to yourself, it was a worthwhile interview.

A tall, young purple filly appears at the fresh new table and, completely ignoring the chair ready for her, stares hard at the figure with the clipboard.

“I don’t normally answer to calls like this, but I was sort of forced into it, you could say.” Here she glances back behind her at what appears to be a pair of black sunglasses, glinting off the faint light. There’s the faintest sound of retreating hooves before a red glow envelops the darkest corner of the room. The filly turns back towards the table. “Let’s get this over with.” To herself, she mutters, “I hope you’re happy, Red.”

The figure behind the desk begins promptly. “What is your name?”

“Names...I think they’re a nonsense load of griffon dung. Others call me Sync, and what I call myself is my own business.”

Quickly, the interviewer fires off the next question on the clipboard.

“What is your favorite color?”

Sync hesitates less than a second. “I suppose my favorite color is the color your face turns when I tell you my favorite color is freshly spilled blood. Ha! Yes, that face! It’s adorable!”

With a bit more of a beat, the figure reads the next one.

“What are your interests?”

“That’s a pretty vague question. I’m not really interested in much, anyway.”

“Favorite music genre?”

Here, Sync twitches and gives the space across from her a look of pure hate. “My greatest desire is for it all to be silent!”

“If you had a time machine that would work only once, what point in the future or in history would you visit?”

With a somewhat thoughtful look, as if she doesn’t want to let on how much it interests her, Sync directs her gaze upward, hazel eyes looking beyond the ceiling. Perhaps into the past. Her horn glows faintly and her eyes shut involuntarily in pain. When she finally opens them again, she seems to look even younger. The bandana holding back her soft white mane enhances her fillyish features, giving her an innocence of years long since passed. A gentle sigh escapes her lips, and the noise wakes her from her reverie.

“I’d prefer not to answer.”

The voice behind the table goes on as if nothing happened.

“If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?”

“Anywhere?” The filly glances back at the corner of the room. “Well, I suppose I’d go back to that forest where nothing dared follow me. That was nice.”

“What is on the walls in your bedroom?”

“I don’t currently have a room to call my own, but the room where I sleep for now is pretty simple. Blank walls, nothing special.” She shrugs the question off as nothing, but there’s a sense that she wouldn’t mind if the walls weren’t so empty.

“If you HAD to give up one of your senses (hearing, seeing, feeling, smelling, tasting) which would it be and why?”

Suddenly the filly rears up, slamming her hooves on the desk in emotion. “I would give up my hearing in a heartbeat! For the world to be silent, to never hear any of your ugly voices again, to hear only the peace of the dark...yes, this is my wish.” Sync closes her eyes, the first time that night showing any sense of happiness.

Nearly heartlessly, the next question breaks the silence.

“If you were an animal, what would you be and why?”

Sync coughs lightly, a filly’s cough. “Ahem. I’m not sure how many mirrors you broke this morning, so I feel obligated to forgive your ignorance. I’m in a good mood right now. I’ll keep this brief. Family, equidae, that is horses; order, perissodactyla, that is odd-toed ungulates. Ahem...” Sync holds up her hooves, gazing dully into the glassy eyes of the figure before her as if they are incredibly dumb. With another short cough, she continues. “Class, mammalia. As in mammals. Don’t make me explain that. Phylum, chordata, vertebrates, creatures with a backbone. Lastly, kingdom. Animalia. Animal. We. Are. All. Bucking. Animals.” With a final cough, Sync gives a smug look and waits for the next question.

“Do you have a pet? If not, what sort of pet would you like?”

Without the slightest pause, Sync responds. “You’d do nicely if you’d obey my every word.” There is a creak as the figure shifts in their chair. The filly laughs innocently, and for a moment she’s just an ordinary foal, giggling at a joke anypony would laugh at. With an awkward cough and a rustling of paper the next question is read.

“Name a gift you will never forget?”

Here Sync goes silent, for the first time tonight uncertain. Her eyes dart about like fish in a pond with too much fear and not enough sense. The hazel orbs rest on a small dagger tied to her back leg with a bit of her blue bandana. Finally she stares right back at the table, all the weakness from before evaporated. “Shut up!”

Taking comfort in the return of her energy, the interviewer continues.

“Name one thing you really like about yourself.”

Again, Sync is caught off guard. “L-like?” During the entire time she has never once sat down, but this simple question brings her to her haunches. To herself she mutters nearly silently and you need to move close to hear. “What does that even mean?”

After a great silence, the figure moves on to the next question.

“What's your favourite thing to do in the summer?”

Sync shakes herself so violently you almost hear her bones rattle. Without so much as a wince, the filly resumes her sardonic glare, standing once more.

“The summer is a time for rest, for play, when good little fillies finally get their reward of a nice three-month break. They get to go home to their mommies and daddies and embrace for the first time since September. My favorite thing to do in the summer is
hide under slides at schools and watch the foals all run home. Then I follow them down and single out the ones who sound most interesting. Keeping myself hidden, I use my silencing spell on the chattiest ones, just to watch them struggle. Then I lift it before they start choking and turning the most lovely of colors.”

With a sound of two flat objects colliding, the clipboard falls to the desk and is promptly picked back up again as the figure reads the next question without a change in tone.

“If you could choose, what would you be doing 10 years from now?”

“Well it won’t be doing whatever my cutie mark turns out to be, that’s for sure. That is if I ever get one.” For the first time that night, Sync shifts her weight so that the light hits her flank where a cutie mark should have been. The filly is definitely a bit old to not yet have discovered her talent. The figure, however, decides it’s best not to question her and moves on to the next question.

“What was the worst thing that ever happened to you?”

“This interview. Keep moving, I’m getting tired,” Sync snaps.

“What was the best day of your life?”

Here the filly smirks and tilts her head sideways. “Ohhh I know exactly. Yes, it was that day I first tasted true freedom. When I walked away from that hospital forever, yes...” Sync reaches up to rub her head around her horn lightly, murmuring to herself. “It should have healed by now, and it’s still tender right here, but it was all worth it.” Setting her hoof back down, Sync looks back at the interviewer. “Come on.”

“If you were writing your epitaph, what would you say?”

The filly blinks slowly, then smiles without feeling. “That would imply I want to be remembered, now wouldn’t it?”
Not for the first time that night, there is an uncertain silence. Again the interviewer coughs awkwardly before returning to the task.

“What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?”

Sync glances at the walls, letting her eyes travel to the ceiling again. “I don’t much care.”

“What is your favorite body part?”

Here Sync rolls her eyes. “Come on, does it really say that? I’ve taken all your other silly questions with a grain of salt, but really? Well whatever. It’s your stupid game anyway. I suppose I’d have to say my horn, broken as it is right now.”

“What sound do you love?”

The filly’s eye twitches slightly. “What, are you really that forgetful?”

Quickly, the figure goes on to the next question.

“What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?”

Barely acknowledging the question, Sync replies shortly. “Pass. I’m running out of patience for you.”
With another great rustle of papers, the interviewer skips to the last question.

“What annoys you most?”

This topic sparks Sync’s interest, and she pauses to reflect. She gazes back at the ceiling, then back at the table, smirking.
“What annoys me the most...where do I begin? There are so many wonderfully irritating things...I suppose to save time, I’ll simply say unnecessary noise and leave it at that.” Sync taps the table lightly. “That was all? Good. I’ll be on my way then.”

Suddenly, the darkest corner is alight with a red glow again. A voice calls the filly’s name, and she sighs. “I’ll never hear the end of this.” Turning towards the white shape, Sync trots away without another word to the interviewer, as if having erased the unpleasant experience already.

Before the red glow disappears completely, a voice whose gender is hard to place asks.

“Now that wasn’t so bad, was it?”

(And because we can have seconds, I'm gonna go after another character of mine. Maybe a third.)

My house? Dude, I live in the Lunar Guard barracks at the castle. Good luck setting that place on fire! But if it somehow caught fire, it'd be my rifle, armor, and Featherboy.

Just a picture of a cute supermodel out in Fillydelphia. Nothing raunchy, brass doesn't like it when the grunts get distracted.

...Wow, that's actually really tough. Uhhh... huh. Well, my sister's hearing is pretty good, and being a batpony, my ears work better than most... but I kinda need my eyes. Smelling, most likely. Don't really need that for most of my work, since my sight's top notch.

An animal, huh? Heh, I'll avoid some of the bigger beasts out there. Owl, most likely. Their heads can turn a whole 360, it's crazy!

Used to have a pet bat back home. Heh, batponies keeping a bat as a pet. Never thought about that... anyway, I'd probably want something easy to take care of. Fish, maybe? Nah, maybe a gerbil or a hamster.

Hmm... I dunno, losing my virginity? I haven't exactly gotten a lotta presents, and Featherboy doesn't really give me many good ones for Hearth's Warming. Uhhh... huh... I'll get back to you on that one.

My eyes. You have no idea how nice it is to see in the dark as well as I do. One other thing is my experience. Real heartwarming to make a mare smile.

For one? Avoid the sun at all costs. Having eyes like this is a double-edged sword, bud, because you seriously can't go out during the day in summer. At night, though? If Cross is awake, hang out with him, or probably hit a bar somewhere and find a cute mare who wants a stallion around.

15. What is your preferred brand of toothpaste?
Ahh, these fangs of mine keep themselves white near-constantly. It's weird. Haven't had to brush my teeth a day in my life. Dad said it's because of that ritual thing I did, but I don't buy it. Maybe it's like how snakes shed their skin, and I just shed the plaque? *Grins* See? These puppies haven't seen a toothbrush in about twenty years, and they're just fine. As for my breath... well, let's just say I send in a hazmat team's worth of mouthwash.

Bleh, those human drinks? They suck. Gimme one of the super-sugary drinks from downtown, and I'll be set.

17. If you could choose, what would you be doing 10 years from now?''
What would I be doing, or what do I want to be doing? Because those two answers are pretty different. What I will be doing is getting chewed out by my Sergeant on maneuvers, and what I want to be doing is something other than patrols.

18. What was the worst thing that ever happened to you?
...That's a pretty dark moment in my life. But pretty much, I got my friend caught up in something of a nightmare. Then what happened to my sister is a pretty strong tie at #1 Shittiest Thing To Ever Happen To Me. I won't go into details... but I will tell ya; avoid the red mare they call 'Mistress'. You'll regret making her mad.

19. What was the best day of your life?
Leaving Hollow Shades. You've got no idea what it's like to be raised in what's basically a military camp, where your parents and instructors are all retired Lunar Guard soldiers, and all your peers and all the kids are slated for military careers. But, that's the fate of us batponies... so I just kinda rolled with the punches and got out when the getting was good.

20. Who was the person who most influenced you, and how?
Me. Nah, I'm kiddin'... Cross Matrix. He's taught me a lot by just being my friend, despite all the crap I've put him through. Dunno what specifically... but I'm a better pony than I was three years ago.

21. If you were writing your epitaph, what would you say?
Live fast, die hard, and always stand against the tide.

22. What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
Inside? Oho, I don't wanna be vulgar. Probably just sharing a quiet moment with someone. Outdoors? Racing, drinking, hanging out. Partying, y'know? Making something out of the time I've got. Not gonna live forever when you've got a life as a Lunar Guard Corporal, after all. Heh, even if you're the ever so awesome me.

23. What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
It starts with a 'C', it ends with an 'S', two words, it involves a bathroom, and it makes me vomit everytime I think about it.

24. What is your favorite form of exercise?
Flying and skydiving. Adrenaline shaves off the pounds like a Screamer shaves off ammunition.

25. What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?
Evening, probably Sunday, and sometime around the 63rd of Winter. Pretty cold, lots of snow... brings back memories of what I did as a kid when I was on holiday, and everypony was allowed to loosen up.

Oh, that's a pretty hard choice. Likely my eyes, like I said before. You've got no idea what it's like to have the sight of a batpony... even if you do have to wear sunglasses every waking hour.

Again, staying away from being vulgar... just the sound of Cross talking to me. He goes on and on about the most boring things, but just hearing his voice and how cheery he can be... reminds me how nice it is to have a friend who sticks by you.

28. If you could throw any kind of party, what would it be like and what would it be for?
Shockingly enough, I've never thrown a party. I suck at organization. But, if I could have one, it'd be at a nightclub with some heavy beats, loads of alcohol, and all my friends would get VIP passes.

29. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
Getting into the Lunar Guard. Batponies are practically built for night patrols and operations, and it was still a bitch to get in. My marks sucked, my discipline was terrible, my attitude was worse, and the test was one of the most brain-busting things I've ever done. Still, when I got in? Oh man, I felt like a champ.

30. What annoys you most?
Criminals, stallions who treat others wrong, cheaters, ponies who treat their ego really seriously. Despite what I've said so far, my ego's mostly flaunted as a joke, I don't try to be a jerk... though most of the time, I get bit in the rump anyway for it. Just... bad ponies, y'know? Pretty bad myself sometimes, and I kinda want numbers of those kinds of ponies to stay low.

Anyway, that the last question? 'Cause if I leave Whisper hanging again, she's gonna make me pay the ice cream tab for the next month. It is? Awesome. Um... pass? All the senses are pretty useful to a guard captain. If I HAD to choose one, I'd say smell, because sometimes I think Ol' Red doesn't know how to bathe.

Does a griffin count? I've always been fascinated by that species, and considering my current relationship... eh, meh hmm.. *mumble mumble*

I don't, but I think a dog would be awesome. Nothing's better than chasing down a criminal with that loud barking beside you.

One time, Gilda gave me one of her feathers as a sign of trust. I actually keep it in a little glass case, it's cool.

My sense of humor. It's what has kept me from pulling out my hair during my years as captain of Meadowbrook's guard.

I really like to paint. I kind of cheat and stick the brush in the loops on my boot made for weapons, but whatever works.

Criminal scum doesn't care about the time of day. As for time of the year, early spring. Meadowbrook is right close to the Crystal Empire, and it's absolutely gorgeous when the snow starts melting.

If it works only once, can I still get back? And if not, could you really call it a visit?

Anyway. I'd like to see what things were like before Luna got banished. Yeah, I know, it's pretty far, but the books hardly have any information on the period just after Discord was defeated. I suspect that in her shame, Princess Celestia hid all history about her sister. Actually, I'll see if I can just ask them about it on the next progress meeting.

6. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I'm fine right where I am. At home, in Canterlot, with my wife and daughter. There's nowhere I'd rather be. Though I like visiting the old hive, occasionally.

"Objects", you say... does that include family members? Because I sure as Tartarus would go get them out first. Beside that, uh, well, my wedding band, probably. It's more of a ceremonial thing, I guess, but I'd hate to lose it. And my music box.

Uhm... wallpaper? The flowery kind. Nothing too special. Though Junebug's room, by Celestia, there's some outrageous posters there!

The ability to sense emotions. To just be like any pony is. I've always wondered what that would be like. Of course, in reality, losing that would probably kill me in the end.

Realistically, I'd probably be some kind of bug, me being a changeling and all. Wouldn't be my first choice, though. I've always been partial to cats.

All right, all right. I managed to get the changeling race integrated in the Amended Hearth's Warming Eve Pact, making them Equestria's fourth recognized species, under the rule of Celestia. I... guess that's something I can be proud of.

Lie back, enjoy the sun, have my daughter throw water balloons at me when I least expect it... what else is summer for?

18. What was the worst thing that ever happened to you?
Getting blown out of Canterlot at the end of the changeling invasion and irreversibly losing my pony form in the process, and then being chased out of a small country town by a mob carrying torches and pitchforks. That was pretty bad.

I mean, torches? it wasn't even dark yet! And they didn't even know what to do with me once they'd capture me; they were just chasing me into the next village! Talk about a lack of foresight! Ugh, mobs.

Probably the day Junebug was born. It was the first day in my life I just felt everything was really exactly as it was supposed to be, you know? No more lies, no more disguises, Morning Rain and I finally having a kid of our very own...

Not that I love Blueprint any less, of course. He'll always be my son.

I'm tempted to say "Swift Star", but I think my wife would nudge me again if I did that. He's, um, the guy I replaced, when he died... long story.
