“The curtain fell. And sitting atop the high-backed throne of Discord… Anarchy reigned.”

So, just what is the Anarchyverse?

In short, the Anarchyverse is what happens when one person tries very, very hard to find all the plot-holes in Friendship is Magic, and instead of pointing them out or ripping the setting or show a new one, goes insane trying to patch them up with simple, clean-cut answers. Ideally, in any case. The Anarchyverse was designed from the ground up as a world in which the entirety of the show is canon, so it is forever free from the specter of Official Canon Retconning...

More helpfully, the Anarchyverse does have a few major events that broadly define how it differs and sets itself apart from all the other AU's out there. There are three major Arcs to this timeline, collecting the growing number of stories into storylines that internally and externally connect with one another. These Arcs form what I consider to be the series' official reading order(s).

  1. The Midnight Arc - Starting with Midnight at the Crystal Library, this is the very first official story in the Anarchyverse timeline. A somewhat short adventure story, MatCL is a great introduction to many characters that will eventually become central to this and other arcs, including Starlight Glimmer, Midnight Sparkle, Sunset Shimmer, and Starswirl the Bearded. The next story in this arc is Home Again, followed by All These Midnight Days, Humans are WHAT Color?, Spike: The Wonder Dog, and Sunset Glimmer. I'll Be Home For Hearth's Warming also takes place in this Arc, but sometime before MatCL, and the short story Civics Lesson from My Little Minister: Bureaucracy is Magic takes place sometime after Sunset Glimmer, but before Anarchy. Midnight Arc stories will typically involve the Equestria Girls world (or, Egverse) and characters closely associated with it.
  2. Anarchy Arc - Another starting point for those looking to begin their adventures in the Anarchyverse would be Anarchy: Pony of Chaos. This Arc begins just as Friendship is Magic ends. Literally, as the opening paragraph of Anarchy has Twilight bidding Luster Dawn good luck in her studies in Ponyville. This Arc is set in the next generation of Equestria, where Twilight and her friends rule through the Friendship Council, and the world marches closer and closer to an ideal future. Most stories in this timeline can be read in any order following Anarchy, including Anarchy: Parole of a Queen, Guarded Hearts, Who Wears the Pants?, Rarity's Pregnant and Spike's the Father, and the various (only one of which is published) Zap Apple stories.
  3. Trixie Arc - As of 5/9/2021, only Trixie's Great and Powerful Adventure, and The Legend of Trixie fall into this Arc. The Trixie Arc covers the baffling time-traveling exploits of everyone's favorite magical mare, the Great and Powerful Trixie. This arc is short on stories, but usually delves more into the world of Equestria, its history, and its oddities.
