Update on Things (as of 6/2022) · 9:57pm Jun 22nd, 2022

I've realized I haven't really posted anything in the way of new fics since May of last year, so I just wanted to pop in and assure that I am still working on new content, just haven't gotten anything complete to post as of yet...partly due to things not always going a fic's particularly way, or for other reasons entirely.

The ever nebulous "swansong fic," for example, has become subject to a dramatic...change in plans. It'd...take a whole other blog post that I'm not prepared to write at the moment to explain what has happened there exactly, but for now, the short version is that plans changed and thus there's no need for you readers to expect it coming anytime soon, because it's not going to be. Again, the reasons are...lengthy...because I'd want to explain the whole tale of why in full, but that can wait for another day.

That said, I had spent most of this past spring working on what would've been a sequel to "Weekend With The Dragon Lord" (in fact, this blog post featured a little glimpse at what had been the working draft at the time). But unfortunately, I eventually found that the premise I was using just wasn't producing the sort of story I was looking to tell and felt...inadequate...for such a sequel, at least as I was envisioning it. Unable to resolve that problem, I've since abandoned that project for now, at least until such time I can come up with a different premise that could work better. But for now no sequel of such is currently in progress.

I've continued to keep my eyes out for ideas for what I've been thinking to myself as the "third Smollus fic" so to continue the Smollus trends "Somnambulism" and "Dare to Date" started, but have just continued to strike out on finding anything workable, or at least interesting and original enough to commit to. I keep having the idea to do a fic that explores how Smolder's family reacts to news of her dating a griffon, but while I have great ideas on how to start such a fic, I haven't figured out a good way to end it and tie it all together, leaving me feeling forever stuck with just half a fic, and

In the meantime, I have been toying with any other ideas that could make for a good Smollus fic, even if they end up having no connection with past Smollus fics, but again just haven't uncovered anything the feels worthwhile.

Similar story for G5 fics, for which I would kinda like to do at least one at some point. Though I guess that submission I did for "Diaries of a Zephyrwing" does kinda count, so if all else fails... *shrugs*

I suppose I did recently get an idea of spinning Hitch in a "Sheriff Carter from the TV show EUReKA" kind of role...but we'll see if I think that idea's really worth committing the time and energy to.

But through all that seemingly bad doom and gloom, there's a light--I finally figured out a way to make an idea I've had since about 2019 to work, and as a result have been making steady and regular progress on it (particularly after that "Weekend With The Dragon Lord" sequel fell apart, freeing my focus), and it's looking to be a more sizeable, novel-length sort of story. Not "Grief is the Price We Pay" size, of course, but definitely longer than a lot of the short fics I've been producing as of late...so if nothing else, there's that to look forward to. Dunno when you can expect it coming about though--probably not for some months still, conservatively speaking--but it's coming nonetheless.
