Entirely incidentally, it also happens to be my birthday today, which is why this is getting posted earlier in the day than I normally would post a fanfic, so to make room for the usual birthday festivities later this evening.

And perhaps fittingly, it'll also be "Grief's" sixth anniversary in just another sixteen days (if it wasn't for the fact this fic is holiday-themed, I totally would've waited to post this then).

Happy birthday! :pinkiehappy: Will read this later (hopefully at some point within the next 24 hours, it's late evening and I've already planned to do something else)

Expectation: it's that chapter that didn't make it into Grief, where Spike and Thorax devise a plot to spook Fly's annoying competitor-bookstore-owner by having her see Thorax undisguised and later pretending she'd walked in on them while they were simply trying on a changeling costume. I bet it'll be a treat to read even if it turns out I knew what's coming

She Had it Coming Though

She only had herself to blame. :trollestia:

Very nice. It would've been fun if this had made it into Grief, but I feel like it's appropriate to leave it separate. It's been a long time since I read the story, but if I remember correctly I don't think this would've had any lasting impact, and side stories are always nice.

I'm always happy for more SOL stories in this universe! It's one of the best fics on this site.

With how much I've talked about this fic over the years, It's worth noting that, despite how upset I am at the ending, my anger is with the character's decisions and not the author. It's developed well, the pacing is perfect, and I understand everything the characters are doing even though I don't agree. It reminds me of watching Boardwalk Empire, to be honest. I know I've made a lot of comments about this fic, but I assure you that they're not negative. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but in a good way. It just means it's well written. You should be proud of both the story and for making me cry in Midway Airport!

Well done here. If given the chance, I would've loved to pull something like this on the main six as PAYBACK.

Hell. Yeah! Just made my night
Happy birthday CHAMPION

I think the story would honestly be better if it was something independent, rather than an excerpt from another. As is it just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I did try, aware that tying it in so directly with "Grief" would limit who could readily read it, but I just wasn't getting it to work--the set-up felt all wrong, and often required more of an introduction to set the scene, and...it was just coming out clunky. Ultimately I realized it was either do it this way or nothing. :rainbowderp:

What a coincidence, I was just starting with a Grief reread last week. Seems that it was excellent timing. :moustache:

Ill be honest: If this was my story, Fly would've told Spike and Thorax she knew about the both of them and was okay with Thorax. I mean, there were hints that she knew and simply wasn't saying anything. And yes, I did read the other story.

I suppose "Grief" didn't really get in detail about Fly's reasons for doing that, but it was just because she recognized that Thorax and Spike were, understandably, quite protective of the matter, and she felt respecting their privacy and playing along until they were comfortable to come forward and reveal all was the better course of action, rather than trying to force a reveal on her own schedule rather than theirs. It was, in short, her way of showing her respect and care for them by showing she cared and respected their wishes. More importantly, it was also her showing she could definitely keep the secret.

Whether or not that was the correct course of action for her to take...well...that was part of the whole point of "Grief." :raritywink:

Love seeing ponies like Letterpress put in their place. A good side story to a great story.

Fly Leaf was always big on decorating her shop decorated for special events

Did you mean to write decorating twice?
