I think its implied that Twilight died, some disaster happened that ended the golden age, and now this is a dark age/regressed age with much of the past being lost because of it.

I actually like this, very much so actually. I'm not sure why some people are moaning on about this design. The synopsis is also very interesting, and is definitely drawing me in to want to know more. An apartheid Equestria? Now that's something I'd like to see explored. The question here is this, will the writing be good? The potential here is great, but there is always a chance they'll screw it up. We won't know until it actually releases sometime later this year.

Well historically when Empires/Civilizations fall its normal for multi-cultural societies to break up into racial groups. It's happened in human history before such as Japan, China, Africa, Europa, etc. My guess is that some great disaster happened in Equestria that ended their golden age, blame was spread to deal with the blow of such an event, and they all went their separate ways.
If we don't get humans in any sort of content, ill call it a win.

Honestly, it's a common trope in things like Video Games and Anime series so I don't see what's wrong with it. Besides, how often have we written fanfiction or fan art depicting such a thing. *Eyes Fallout Equestria Fandom*
They have paraphernalia of the cmc and mane 6 and stuff, but I'm honestly confused about how they all forgot about the friendship lessons and things they did. Twilight even made a book (I think), and I'm sure people recorded their exploits.
Something really bad must have happened to cause society to fracture again. I honestly wonder what happened to things like hearths warming though.

I'm definitely very intrigued, but I'm getting nervous on others' behalf. I've already seen quite a few people complain that this premise completely nullifies the Mane Six's accomplishments throughout FiM, and it's giving me some rather unwelcome flashbacks to my time in the Star Wars fandom.
Really hope they can pull it off. I'm pulling for them!
Setup sounds interesting, and what might have led to it (if we don't get an answer, its fanfic fuel). Even though the 3D feels a little off IMO, but that's just me. And hopefully it stays away from "wOkEnEsS" and such other things that plague some of the animations these days here and there.

The difference I see is that this takes place probably long after the Mane Six are dead, and as history shows us societies change and decline so something might have happened that ruined their work. A great disaster, a super villain, etc. That's been used in fiction before and can be believed since that also happens in reality and makes sense. That way it doesn't feel like everything we went through was useless, its just that something came and ruined it that nobody saw coming or was unprepared for it.
The difference with the "new" Star Wars is that it pretty much was killing off the Original Trilogy for the sake of making their Trilogy better. Killing off the main characters, destorying the Republic, and pretty much ruining the revival of the Jedi was stating that all the struggles in Episode 4,5,6 were useless. If it happened say, 500 years or 1000 years after teh original triliogy it would be believable.
I think it looks pretty cool, interested to see how things came to be like this after G4 but mainly waiting to see what the animation is like

But as for the film itself, I am still interested to see how it plays out. The design looks a LOT better (to me, at least) in 3D. That said, I will prefer 2D animation any day of the week. There is something uncannily familiar about the facial design but i cannot place it. I am also curious to see what the actual F happened. Did they actually try converting other peoples and got their butts handed to them?

This is gunna be set in the future so I imagine Twilight had a nice rein before bad things started happened to make this world what it was.
But also, I’ve never really got the whole, things in the future are bad so all their hard work was for nothing. Just because things change in the future doesn’t mean their victory were pointless. That’s like saying winning WW2 makes WW1 pointless, it doesn’t really hold up

Ya know, I might be in the minority here. While most of you are saying that Twilight had done a really bad job or got killed, I could be the only one to purpose a different possibility.
I wonder if, in this new generation, all the stuff that went before in G4 was, in a sense, mythology. That to these ponies, Twilight Sparkle is seen is seen as a mythical figure like how we see King Arthur. About once upon a time, this land had a golden age with a ruler that could do these fantastical things. After all, maybe the stories of the mane six, the sister princesses, the villains and all is just a fairytale.
So is it crazy to say that maybe this Sunny wants to bring that myth where ponies were once united into reality when everyone else thinks that it's impossible if childish to do so?

I am terribly on the fence with this movie. Just by that picture, I personally do not like the art style. I'd rather have the newer style of the first movie if anything. Probably given the fact that this is more 3D and not 2D. Reading the short description, yet again it's like, I can see a concept that can be used in the universe, but at the same time I feel like it's been politicized terribly by modern events. As of now, I'm a bit disappointed.

For movies like this, they need a major issue that anyone is able to solve by working together. A trope that is easy to explain, work with, etc. And some real-life issues, hiding in plain sight.
What the heck? Am I being pranked? That reads like the summary of any number of fanfictions I've seen (but not read, because that entire plot is not really something I'd enjoy) and the models are frankly creepy. This is their actual new franchise?

There is also a problem of messing with a beloved canon. All fanfics are non-canon and alternate universes at best. Here it's actually canon. I mean, just look at how the Star Wars sequel trilogy retroactively screwed up the ending of the original trilogy and ruined Star Wars as a franchise.
I was right, someone along the line f-ed up badly and got equestria in this state, my only hope is that the elements, the sisters and discord would be considered fallen heroes while still being alive but shunned by the society and that the new heroes will be their apprentices
