The Alicorn Warrior- Information · 8:36pm Aug 15th, 2020
Recently, I've seen some people ask why an adventure story like mine has so much Slice-of-life. Well, to answer the question, I'll quote my Co-Author. (Not an exact quote, but close enough.) SoL is important to stories with an overpowered character. If you're looking for something else, you'd be better off looking for junkie action fics that don't last very long. Andddd Unquote. See, The Alicorn Warrior requires some in-depth explanation to all the stuff that's happened to Twi'. And if I dive into the action that I have planned out immediately? The story'd be over in 8 chapters or less. I am infinitely grateful to my Co-author for pulling me back onto the correct way of writing, and for that, I thank him. Slice of Life is integral to every story, and every author writes it in their own small way. But of course, there's an adventure tag, so there'll be some action here and there. Teaser for what's coming- poke around chapter 4 for something Twilight mentioned. It'll be expanded and made into a full blown flashback eventually, but I can't tell you the exact chapter of when that'll come out. It could be Chapter 5, or Chapter 6. We'll just have to see! Oh and, one more thing. OC tag is there because there's a LOT of OCs in this fic, but I'm not planning for any to become a main character yet. Keyword being yet. Well, that's everything I wanted to cover. Hope you enjoyed this little tidbit? Chapter 5 is in the works, and we're finishing it up. Sadly, writing a story like this needs ideas, and ideas don't flow like a tap. I have only the general idea, and it takes work to take that and mould it into a story. Chapter 5 may be released tomorrow, or it may be next week. I can't promise anything, but if I overcome writer's block, my writing will run more smoothly. Of course,I also have my own life to run, so I can't be working on this every day. Well, that's pretty much it. Stay safe!
Please update soon. This is a really good story. At least it's better than mine.
Please take your time to make your story amazing. I really love the concept of The Alicorn Warrior.
Pfft. You don't know the half of it.
Amen!

Yep! Not counting the prolog (1 earth pony, 2 unicorn, 2 griffin, 1 minotaur she was forced to kill, all unidentified, and Quick Leash, identified in Chap. 2), there are so far, let's see...
And of course, 6 through umpteen thousand: The spectators at the Arena...
And that's just the ones that have been introduced already. There's more OCs coming soon...
Though yes, I believe I agree with your assertion. I mean, if you've read my Just Like Magic of Old, you'll know that that story features a few OCs... which, let's see... counts some 28 or so of which are named. Technically 29, but Tele Pony only appears in a ghost chapter, currently. Then there's the array of some 20-30 unnamed OCs (I can't be bothered to count them right now)... and I think the total number of non-original characters is hardly 10-15...

I needed to create a 'cast list' for my story, A Daughter and her Dragon. The most recently published chapter was 63, and up to chapter 57 (I had to discontinue the list at that point because it was getting difficult to keep track of) there were 96 named OCs.
5336582
Not surprised. Some authors are good with that kind of thing... I'm going to guess that a good number of them could've been unnamed extras without affecting story events, even though a lack of name might've disrupted the scenes they were in?
5336585
Hit the nail right on the head, buddy. That's the case for about 28 of them.
5336587
So, about a quarter to a third. Which is about the same ratio of the same for mine... (I didn't count how many of the named ones were one-off ponies the Princess needed to yell at/refer to by name, but there were at least three of those, in one scene I can think of... And there's also a couple of characters that are referred to by name, but never actually appear...)
5336588
Yeah, I have a few of those named-but-don't-appear characters, too. And some of them are also one-offs. It's an interesting list. Sounds like we've both got the same thing going.
I didn't count the canon characters that are major and not-so-major players, but there are only so many of them. *shrug*
5336597
Yeah... Makes sense, considering aDahD takes place in Equestria, and JLMoO takes place (primarily) on a faraway planet...
Little assumption there, I've never read your story, but I have seen the description before. I think it's on my Read It Later list... but I don't tend to read much anymore.
5336597
Yeah, but computerneek here certainly knows how to keep track of our OCs lmao.
5336602
... Sure, if you count "being autistic and rereading past chapters" as "how to keep track of ___ characters"...
What I really should be doing, is building & maintaining a story bible, so that the various characters and their (undoubtedly numerous) details appear somewhere other than just in my head... Only, I'm incredibly bad at actually writing character bios, sooo...
5336601
Yep, takes place in an AU Equestria.
5336602
Oh, I knew how to keep track of my own, too; I made the list because my readers couldn't.
5336605
This reminds me of my On the Implications of Parallel Worlds (HP crossover, takes place in Britain)...
+ 5 "extra" named politicians.
... Apparently, that's too many OCs for people to keep track of- even before Morning Sun appeared. Probably doesn't exactly help that Silversong is Draco Malfoy...
Oh, and the tribal designations- Raeth, Aethr, and Etrah (Unicorn, Pegasus, and Earth, respectively) were also too much for people to keep track of on their own, despite being a major component of the world design...
5336606
I always wondered, where'd you get those words for the tribes?
5336613
My sister.
... No really, she's the one that came up with them. She's not far from Twilight when it comes to books... You might've seen a few of my blog posts- I will occasionally do blog posts whenever I need to find some wide-spanning and (especially) symbolizing terms... Or do major amounts of calculation to determine something minor, like Ollivander's stock counts (part 2) or the length of the Hogwarts Express.
Because yes, the three terms- Raeth, Aethr, and Etrah- they're anagrams. They're also anagrams of Earth and Heart. This was deliberate, and why it took a while to come up with them.
Take your time and do what you need to do! We'll be waiting. Also, you've made me want to scour it again cause I'm usually good with picking up things... I'm surprised some of the things I've said haven't been... well never mind that! Also, you've managed to make me question whether I keep my story plans and character terms and sheets up to date, thanks.
Your Co Author is right, and I have no complaints about SoL. It does help with world building and some pacing.
