Hello, friends. This is an announcement that I have a boyfriend. His name is Reggie, and he’s amazing.
Now, you may be saying, “Bryan Super, I thought you were straight?” And I mostly am. I’m heteroflexible. I don’t, at least at this point in time, seek out men for romance. But Reggie has been a good friend for several years, and when he told me a few months ago that he thought I was cute and would love to date me, I was like, “Oh! Okay, sure I guess?”
And I’m so glad I gave him a chance! At first, our relationship was mostly a BDSM friends-with-kinky-benefits thing, since we both have, uh, similar tastes, and that is something I’ve wanted to explore for a long time, but never had the courage to pursue. Turns out it’s super fun! And I really appreciate how patient he’s been with me, as I am a very sexually shy person who takes a while to feel comfortable with stuff. But as I’ve hung out with him more, I’ve also fallen in love!
There’s a whole lot to like about Reggie; he’s a spectacular human being. Besides being cute, he’s also sweet, caring, and uplifting. He is passionate and knowledgable; a pleasure to converse with. He is patient and easy going, and just generally enjoyable to hang out with. And whereas I see in myself a disorganized mess of a disaster, he apparently sees a handsome sweetheart. It’s been invigorating having a partner who thinks I’m hot stuff. And it’s been invigorating being in love again.
I know we’re in the “honeymoon phase” of this relationship, and I know that he has a fiancé (he’s polyamorous). I know things won’t always be perfect, and that I’m sure eventually I’ll find something to dislike about him. But right now, I’m marveling at the wonders of romance, of being in a relationship again for the first time in seven years. It’s pretty awesome.
