Where Credit Is Due · 11:09pm Jul 10th, 2019
If you're selling books at BronyCon, or have been in the Writeoffs, please read.
Book? I want to buy and work it out in advance! Writeoffs? I need advice!
First off, book. There are a lot of books going into the bookstore, and I want to purchase all of them. Some people are bringing only 10 copies, which is bucking insane. There will be thousands of people at BronyCon and they will be purchasing books. The vast majority of purchases will come from people who did not take the Fimfiction survey.
I need to make sure I get a copy of your booky-book, so please bring one just for me and I can plan to pick it up in pony. If you want, that is. Otherwise I'll just hit up the bookstore for everything right at the start of con.
If I've already done this planning, let me know so I don't accidentally buy another copy when the bookstore opens! (I need to start writing down who I've already paid stuff for. Please tell me. I'm bad at things.)
Okay! Now for the advice part.
I am having Oscar syndrome where I feel like if I start crediting people and I miss somepony important it will be bad, so the current credit in my book (apart from art credits) is just a general credit to people from the Writeoff. But I see that other authors are being more specific, and I dunno what I should do.
Credit everypony I can think of? Credit the most important people? Or do what I'm already doing?
Any advice is appreciated.
Oh. Oh goodness, I never considered the fact that most people there won't have even seen the survey. Though transporting all the books becomes a concern. I plan on taking Amtrak in, after all.
That said, I'll be sure to bring a Tricky copy.
Also, I'd say stick with the blanket credit. They know who they are, and if they're not sure, they can count themselves among them anyway.
(Granted, I am offering some specific credits in my own acknowledgements, so... yeah, that could also work. )
I wasn't even planning on bringing 6.
But I'll do my best to bring 10 and one extra to sell to you, Trixie!
Also credit the most important people on the back and front and then everyone else you can think of inside the book in a Author's Credit Page.

I can't really put the credits on the cover, but I'll have at least one page where I credit friends.

I mean the title should just have your name or pen name, the title of the book, cover art and the name of your editor. If you have one.
Credits page obviously inside.

I think is is the best way of crediting everyone. It's the way I've seen most often, anyway!
I’ve been doing specifics for people that did a lot (i.e., my pre-readers, cover artist, last-second edits), and a general credit to the fimfic community at large.
At some point, you have to say "Oh, I forgot to credit Grandma, but it's going to the printer right NOW!"
If anybody misses getting a copy of my books at the con... I'll be horribly smug about it because I'm dragging a crate of 'em. Ahem. I mean I'll open up ordering on Lulu after Bronycon. Yes, that's it. And there will be smug involved, most certainly. Just call me Georg R.R. Martin.
make a complex word puzzle with all the names in it. now people can't feel offended they were left out before making sure they completely solved it.
I have ze book! Put me on the list!
Also, if you have more than like 5 people to credit, just thank them all without listing specific names (excepting contributors to the book like editors and prereaders). Either you'll miss someone or it'll just be an obnoxious wall of text.
I’m bringing 18. I can reserve one for you!

Don't you have a book or books you're bringing?
I'm not selling books there, but I know GaPJaxie at least is taking preorders.

"Oh. Oh goodness, I never considered the fact that most people there won't have even seen the survey."
Yeeeah, nor did I. Despite it being one of those "...Oh, well that should have been obvious" things. Well, it'll be interesting to see how supply and demand match up...

Yes, two or three of them.
I probably need to place my order today/tonight, and I keep debating how many I want to get. According to the survey, I might only sell 10 to 14 of em. But part of me just wants to round up to 20 and see what happens. Though I will be lugging it all in by hand and airplane and however one gets from the airport to the con, so I don’t know what’s feasible!
In the end I’m just going to guess and hope for the best.
