    State of the Author

So a lot of folks have noticed I haven’t been as active on FimFic lately. The enforced hiatus from COVID and the world going into lockdown kind of threw off my writing groove, and when I started getting back into writing I found that the projects I was interested in lived outside the fandom space. I think it’s probably something that was building up for a while before lockdown, anyone who’s

The Life and Times of a Winning Pony Print Project – Mk. II · 6:17am Sep 8th, 2016

Wait, what?

That’s right! We’re doing another run.

Woohoo!

Ouch! My wallet!

Don’t worry, it’ll be cheaper this time. We’ve combined both volumes from the previous run into one ubermensch-massive tome, which—while larger—will be more affordable all around.

Awesome! How much is it going to cost this time around?

Like last time, that depends on how many copies we end up ordering. The current estimate for domestic orders, including shipping and PayPal fees, is $47 USD. (The price for international orders will be a bit higher.) Remember, we’re printing each copy from scratch—these books aren’t going to be mass-produced, which means they cost more per unit to make. The good news is that $47 is a high estimate, and the more people we get on board with this, the more that cost drops for everyone.

So go spread the word!

Sweet! When and how can I throw my money at you?

Soon. We’re still hunting around for the best price, but we’ll give you a few months to save and set up a PayPal account (if you don’t already have one). In keeping with last time, PayPal will be the ONLY way we can accept payment, so the sooner you set that up, the better.

I have more questions that this list didn’t cover!

Post them in the comments below!

I am going to try and get in on this this time around
Wasnt able to do it the first time.

Yup, I've got you and the others who missed out on a shortlist.

I'm looking at my 1st run copy on the shelf and imagining it as one gigatome, and i think you're all mad as hatters but good luck to you anyway

4198541
Going off my preliminary wordcount, the megatone will be about on par with a George RR Martin book, and slightly shorter than War and Peace.

I will be keeping an eye out for this. I'm building a FIMfic library.

Hmm. I'll have to see at the time, but I might get a copy of the single volume too.

Gimme a copy! Signed please.

I'll have to try to grab this, especially at that reasonable price.

One question; Will it include any of the official side-stories, like 'Dense Mind' and 'Infuriating Co-Worker'? I don't expect it to, as it would add to an already massive word count for a single tome.

This is great news for those who, like me, missed out on the first printing.

4198541

And yet, it's somehow cheaper than the two books we did last time. :twilightoops:

4198731

:pinkiecrazy: Sooooooooooooooooon...

4198751

We included The Incredibly Troubled Mind of Rainbow Dash and The Incredibly Lonely Morning of Blossomforth last time around, and we're looking to add The Incredibly Apologetic Letters of Rainbow Dash for this run. As for anything else, we'll see.

4198785

For sure! We'll keep you guys in the loop as this progresses.

... I don't even remember asking about this. But this interests me! :pinkiehappy:

Have you guys announced this on Equestria Daily?

Awesome! I missed out on the first run, so I can't wait to start throwing my money at you :)

I REALLY like her mane want this!

Please please please let me know when you get close to having ordering information!

4198880
Schweet! Any possibility of your own Winning Pony stories making it in?

Thanks for the PM Comma-Kazie! I'm still very interested in this one, and $50 plus some shipping is less than my initial guess it was going to cost to get to my door. I'm guessing this is mostly due to there just being one - albeit quite large - book, as opposed to multiple smaller ones, which also means things for international shipping costs probably?
Anyway, keep me on the shortlist, please.

4198892

Not yet, but I'll drop them a line when I get home from work.

4198997

Sure thing!

which also means things for international shipping costs probably?

International shipping is based off of weight, and that's one of the numbers I'm still crunching in terms of final pricing.

Why yes, certainly I'll buy a second copy of the book because it has a story the original printing didn't!

I HAVE PROBLEMS OKAY

I remember you mentioning looking into offering the book(s) as print-on-demand through Lulu. This sounds like it'll be another self-administered print-run. I'm just curious as to why you chose to pick that route. The Lulu books I've bought have born several signs of being rather sloppily made though and I don't think they can produce a book thick enough to fit all of Winning Pony – which probably answers my question. :twilightblush:

4199370

Pretty much, yeah. Some of the other authors who self-published pointed me away from Lulu for a couple of reasons, that among others.

On the one hand this is super cool. On the other hand, selling fanfiction always strikes me as being one part unethical, one part illegal.

That it's not an enforced kind of illegality is some manner of relief.

Good luck

4198957

I wouldn't mind, but that's up to Chengar.

Any possibility of doing any more of the Winningverse stuff in the future?

4200622
Haven't ruled it out, but no firm plans.

4199370
4200367
That's odd. I've used Lulu and been very satisfied by their quality, price, and customer support. I have to add that I've only had them do hardbacks, so I can't speak to the quality of their paperbacks, though.

4201101
My copies of the Alicorn Mystery trilogy looked gorgeous at first glance, but as I've started reading them I discover more and more issues. Misaligned dust jackets. Bubbly/wobbly paper. Long streaks of ink/toner near the spine on a large number of pages. Lines of grey text where the printer seems to have gotten temporarily clogged. These affect all three books to varying degrees. I plan to document all my findings tomorrow and report them as defects. Let's hope I get a satisfactory response. (I can send you a PM if you want.)

4201543
In my experience, Lulu has always been really good about replacing bad copies.

Please keep me shortlisted on this one. I missed out on the first print run and I must not fail on my mission to spend all my money on pony fanfictions.

4201543

Yikes!

That's why I do a test-print first--I caught a few formatting goofs last time around, though Book1One did a solid job with the book and dust jackets themselves.

4201611

You got it! Stay on top of Chengar's blogs for the latest updates, but you're on the list now.

4204504
There is a list for this? Please go ahead and add me to it as well. I'll be checking here from time to time, when I think of it, but I don't want to miss the opportunity regardless.

I'm tempted to get in on this run too, just for completion's sake :trollestia:

4207890

We'll do an official order form later on, but you've been added to the shortlist.

I'm interested in getting a copy.

I'm interested in a copy!

I'm also very interested in having my own copy of this and will eagerly keep my eyes out for when you take orders
