It was emotional, nostalgic, and featured a lot of restraint that's been absent from a lot of the episodes this season. This was just a very sweet episode.

Very sweet episode, but notice how in the flashbacks Moondancer has the same mane/tail as Twilight? Methinks the hero worship was strong with that one.

I had the exact same thought.
Definitely one of my favorite episodes so far. Nostalgic, sweet, the resolution didn't feel forced, an all around great episode.

Wait, uh, I'm supposed to comment on the rest of the story:
This episode was just about perfect. Less funny, more unending feelsal-waves of feelings! Sure, didn't learn much other than 'Actions still have consequences', but it was a lovely showing of actually putting learned lessons into action. Wonderful seeing explanations for more background ponies, and seeing that Twilight had a near-sister in the form of Moondancer was brutally feelsy.
I cannot complain about this episode at all, this was just a sweet, well crafted episode.
Please, do more goods writers, I beg of you.

Okay... That was a masterwork. We go right back to the start of Friendship is Magic and look a the ones left behind.
Moondancer was one of the best-characterised one-off characters that I've seen to date. This was a great look into the sort of pony Twilight Sparkle was before she had friends and just how careless she was of others. This was one of the most... human friendship crises that we've seen on the show and the difficulty that Twilight had in separating herself from the problem to think of a solution showed the degree of her sense of guilt.
The final solution to Moondancer's problem and Twilight's heartfelt mea culpa was one of the most profound scenes that I've seen in the show to date. Great work M. A. Larson! Someone is definitely moving into place to replace Meghan as the show's chief writer now she's been promoted!
