I was simply lounging about, thinking random thoughts, when all of a sudden, this idea came to me. Let me know what you think of it.
Shades of Night
This story takes place within the same universe as My Overbearing Aunt, but it will take place in the human world. The story Noah, a twenty-year-old human living in Florida, and Nightshade, a unicorn mare that's just started attending the same college as Noah. Noah befriends Nightshade and introduces her to his friends. Overtime, Nightshade becomes more and more comfortable with her new companions, Noah in particular. One day, she asks him to visit her off-campus apartment privately, but when they get there, Noah finds out that her "apartment" is nothing more than a run-down building that can barely stand. Despite acknowledging his initial shock, Nightshade still insists that Noah follow her inside. Despite his better judgement, he agrees. Once they are inside, Nightshade reveals to her human friend that she is not who she appears to be, and thus she reveals her true form:
Nightmare Moon.
She tells Noah that after she was defeated, a small fragment of her remained, a fragment that took almost two years to grow into a separate body, a body that Nightmare Moon could call her own. Despite that, her magic was nowhere near as strong as it used to be; the most she could do was cast illusions and use mind persuasion spells. With this crippling decrease in power, Nightmare Moon decided to assume a new identity and lay low. She obviously took notice of the humans around Equestria, as they hadn't been around prior to her banishment. It was then that she remembered seeing these creatures when she crashed the Summer Sun Celebration, and she learns that they have been peacefully coexisting with ponies, and that the human and pony worlds are in close contact. Armed with this new knowledge, she decided to go to the human world and start a new life there, which led up to her meeting Noah.
Nightmare Moon explains that she decided to "attend" a college to learn more about modern social interaction, and that she hadn't attended a single class. She merely lounged around the school campus observing the behaviors of other students and learning from them. She also tells Noah that she is admitting all of this to him because she trusts him more than anyone, and that she finds him precious to her.
So that's what I have so far. Despite what the above synopsis will have you believe, I'm making this a comedic romance story... at least for the first act. It'll mostly be Nightmare Moon trying to show Noah that she's not evil anymore and just wants a normal life, while Noah is trying to figure out if he really has feelings for her.
What do you guys think of this idea compared to Hate Thy Neighbor? Which one would you like to see as an actual story first? Let me know in the comments!

I like this idear better. Goes along the lines of your other storys. Romance/Comedy I mean. But, if you wanted to do something different I can understand. Although, Nightmare Moon is just an evil... spirit, for lack of better term. But, its your story so I guess you can explain how she wants to not be evil anymore.

IDK, I like the villain part of both of them. I'm more of a Chrysalis fan, but the Nightmare one sounds more feasible. Plus, it's on Earth...

Well, here's my take on it: When Nightmare Moon was destroyed, a small fragment of her was left behind. That fragment took two years to grow and develop into a physical body, but that body was still lacking in power, leaving her only with the abilities I mentioned in the synopsis. From there, her powers will slowly, but surely, come back to her.

A ok yeah it because I imagine after that the night will feed her with power but very slowly and others fragments little by little will be returning to her as well.
Ok and its a good idea and I imagine the protagonist offer her shelter on his own home and propose her help so she can actually be a student
Sense your asking I guess shades of night it sounds really interesting to me. But in the end I don't care which ones written so long as there's something to read. Anyway good luck my friend.

Maybe. I doubt that I'll make reference to that, though.
I like this idea better than Hate Thy Neighbor. I think Noah should convince her to attend classes since more than just social norms have changed in the last thousand years, and she might learn something useful.
Things like what is necessary for plants to grow in biology, planet climate and how they are affected by seasons and such, and of course there's humanities fascination with things in space and how gravity based on rotational forces works.
Seriously, I think it would be interesting to see what her reaction would be to the consequences of tidally locking a inhabited planet like Equestria or Earth.
I thought up these three very appealing (at least to me) options:
Crowdsource which of the two is more preferable in a separate blog dedicated to it, and then write that one
Write both, at a much lower update rate than if you were to pick one. Please don't try to overwork yourself
Find someone with a similar writing style to yours and collab either or both, with them doing a bulk of the writing and you making sure it fits the universe. Of course credit goes where credit is due, but it could turn out to be the most fun option

Silly me i forgot to say which one i thought was a better story.
Its definitely this one not that the other one is bad its that this ones more interesting.
i love them both but if i had to choose then id choose this one, mostly due to the fact that i dont have a single complaint for this one

It's a good idea. I think you should add Chrysalis in it too though. Two ex-baddies that have no true idea of modern social interaction, if you think about it, trying to learn and fit in and one human there to join the ride and witness the insanity.

I don't know about her always posing. In the realm of insects the queen usually stays in the colony and the soldiers and scouts retrieve food. I think the Canterlot royal wedding was a special case due to a lack of food. That's my opinion anyway.
