New Story Idea: Hate Thy Neighbor · 2:37am Jan 2nd, 2014
Okay, so I've been thinking about it for a while, and I think I have a solid premise for my next story.
Hate Thy Neighbor
The story takes place in Manehattan, which is a fresh change of scenery since my last three stories took place in Canterlot. Our main character is the human Lucas Wyland, a 22-year-old amateur filmmaker living in an apartment building in the big Equestrian city. He's been living there for a year, and he loves everything about it, except two things: his neighbors.
First, there's Trixie, a magician who's found a permanent gig in Manehattan and is constantly making a loud scene.
Then, there's Chrysalis, a changeling who's left her life as a queen for a more simple life. While there is the fact that law enforcement is constantly keeping tabs on her to make sure that she doesn't try anything funny, she lives a rather satisfied life as an amateur actress. She does, however, constantly bring home random stallions that she's seduced with her ability to change from, and with her apartment right above Lucas's... let's just say that Lucas has unwanted access to the sounds of their... shenanigans.
All three neighbors hate each other's guts, but an unexpected situation forces them all to live under the same roof, and it's a total roller coaster from there.
This story, like my others, takes place in a universe where humans and ponies have been in contact for several years.
And now, here's a sneak peek at a little verbal exchange between Lucas and Chrysalis:
As I did every afternoon, I went down to the end of the hallway to check my mail. As I sifted through the bills and bullshit promotional flyers, I heard hoofsteps coming up the stairs nearby. I turned my head to see who it was, and then I nearly puked.
It was… Chrysalis…
I played it cool, though. That bug didn’t scare me.
“Another failed audition, I presume?” I say.
“As a matter of fact, shutterbug, my audition was a success,” she retorted. “I landed a soda commercial role.”
“Despite that, you’ll most likely be using your changeling magic to take the form of a more… aesthetically pleasing mare.”
“A role is a role, and I still get paid.”
I scoffed. “Maybe now you’ll be able to afford to soundproof your apartment so I don’t have to hear you whenever you have a ‘guest’ over.”
“Whatever, you don’t even know how often I have guests.”
“I’m sure my ceiling does, though.”
“Fuck off.”
I rolled my eyes at the changeling. “Seriously, keep it down. I don’t need to know how good some random stallion is giving it to you.”
“I don’t need to do what you say,” Chrysalis said, passing me by and heading toward the staircase.
“Have fun picking bits out of your crotch!” I call out.
“I don’t have sex for money, Lucas,” she told me in an unamused voice.
“You don’t?” I ask. “Ha! You’d think with all the guys you’ve had over that you had a one-mare prostitution operation going on. You’ve had more nuts in you than a Snickers bar.”
Chrysalis furrowed her brow, raised her middle finger at me and said “Fuck. You.”
“No thanks,” I sarcastically decline. “I don’t wanna be anywhere near that bat’s cave you’ve got going on down there.”
The changeling growled at me, and then she continued up the stairs to her apartment.
Before you ask, yes, this does happen every day. I know it sounds horrifying, but in actuality, it’s rather easy to come up with new insults for that bug every day.
She never fails to give me ammunition to work with.
Alright, let me know what you guys think about this. I plan on writing this after MOA concludes and I post the Alternate Perspective oneshot. Keep in mind, this won't be for a while, so I have a lot of time. Do you like this idea? Can it be better? Let me know!

OK first if all.. I'm all for this idea....but I have to say that Lucas was kind of a dick in that scene. All chrysalis did was walk by and he just bombs her with insults and sarcasm, and if you look closely, you'll notice that she didnt send back a single comeback or insult in return. This makes her the victim of some serious bullying by our main male character when she hasent even done anything yet

You do make a valid point, though. I have a long time before I actually start working on this story, so there's plenty of room for rewrites and edits.

Its interesting I just curious about where Chrysalis army went, did she just step down the throne or something? is she still the queen and all that.
And I can get behind Lucas he is only trying to life his life and deal with his neighbors and its not wipe he can stand his ground I can see that.
Just wonder we know the complains he get from Trixie but what complain does Trixie has for him? And I also hope he knows how to deal with her as well.
The comedy its solid and if they are force to live together I imagine they could work a friendship between the 3 if something bad and mayor happen that force them into do it. Over all I see Lucas as a good character that could assume the role of a leader and can be mature if the situation its required if not very clever if Chrysalis seduction tricks don't work on him and he can come back to every insult she try.
Over all I like the idea but I'm curious how it works with Trixie and him and hope he had more than enough ammo for her as well
