Nuclear power is a bust. Twilight killed her friends. Can cloning and philosophy bring them back? (Or will we merely be pone-ished?)

- Content note: In addition to the tags-- references to intercourse (which does not take place). 'Tragedy' nearly suits this as a tag... but should it be swapped with 'Dark' or 'Comedy' since there is a three tag limit? Tagging presented a difficult decision. :facehoof:

- Not a crossover with Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus (an early Sci-Fi story), but thematically and titularly adjacent!

My Little Pony's end in October 2019 caused the Decline of Civilization.

Lyra and Bon Bon wallow amid the dying days of the PonyPox pandemic. Enjoy(?) suffering with them as they confront conflicts compounded by years of isolation and emerge from simple nursery rhymes of good times into the cold realities of a future without "Friendship is Magic."

Featured on Equestria Daily's 2023 Lyra/Bon Day in the Drama category! Thank you!

Content Note: Bon Bon lights a cigarette! :fluttershbad: ; addictions touched on lightly; the era of PonyPox. :pinkiesick:

Review and Honorable Mention in a Contest:

[W]ithin the story's Equestria, My Little Pony is a children's TV show run by profit-minded executives, and Lyra and Bon Bon are at the same time former actors on that show, fans of it, resentful of how it ended, and watching the sequel on their TV as they wither away to death in PonyPox quarantine. and through it all, their conversation meanders through dense references and cultural worldbuilding as the grim details of their situation seeps in around them. out of anything i have ever read on this website, reading this fic comes the closest to the feeling of watching an experimental play, which left me feeling very Art. —Bicyclette

Rival camp counselors get each others' goats, but they've goat a bigger problem to address at summer camp. :rainbowlaugh:

- Chapter 1 is stand-alone if you want to avoid 'content warning' tags.
- Chapter 5 touches on some dark issues. To avoid, read that chapter's first segment, then skip to its final two.

Content Note: (throughout) massive jerkery, insults against earth ponies, pegasi and donkeys, mild 'naughty words' [not enough for the tag], bullying, southern-ish accent, (ch. 2) reference to past domestic violence, background & historical intercourse, (ch. 3-5) Narcotics involved although not glorified, (ch. 5) past assault discussed; "tawdry" museum mentioned; (throughout) new yawk-adjacent accent (using 'youse' for plural AND singular :raritydespair:).

Era: The year before the Summer Sun Celebration that brought us Nightmare Moon in Episode 1, Season 1.

An entry in the Fiddledust competition, themed "Kids of Summer"... which obviously was referring to goats. (Results). Excerpts from the Judge's Review:

"...Goats of Summer delivered one of the most creative takes on the prompt in the entire contest. ... an intriguing, brilliant world ... watching them (try to) interact with one another was exceptionally hilarious. The story was full of special and unique plot points that flowed so well into each other, with an ending that capitalized on the buildup and story threads that have been woven together over the course of the entire story. It was absolutely memorable and a great read!"

Trixie gets her friend and frenemy stuck with her in a miniature avant-garde poem containing very few available letters. :trixieshiftleft:

Content Note: (1) A profane word starting with an "F" and a "U" used a few times although the only letters available to our protagonists do not include "K" or "C". (2) A profane word referring to excrement although only the final two letters are available to use. :pinkiegasp: (3) A profane word in a "foreign" language. (4) Trixie makes a Freudian slip or an intentional allusion.... It's easily missed though, which is either a good thing for those with taste and decency, or it's the nucleus of a fun scavenger hunt.

Winner of one of two Bronze Medal Awards in the "A Thousand Words" Contest's Experimental category

Trixie is Terrible Rating: She didn't want it to happen, but she's not helping make things better (3 :trixieshiftright: Out of 10).

Experimental Entry in the Thousand Words Contest.
- It is so experimental that the word counter on the description page disagreed with the word counter on the editor page(!) [The editor shows it as 1010 words. The site description shows as 1000 words].

Image: All mine, although the words are a parodic reference to this link, which itself is a bit of a philosophical parody... and the image probably contains some other cultural references. :pinkiecrazy: For those who want to be spoiled: SPOILER The image indicates that the story is about more than the story. It's about Friendship and Language. But the primary intent is for the story to be enjoyable on an obvious level as an amusing romp.

Pinkie Pie kills her hair.

Content Notice: Hair isn't/manes are not alive (Except for the Mane-iac's :pinkiecrazy:)... but the "death" tag is for more than a homophone; it is out of caution due to cancer-related treatments for a child.

- This idea is from the My Little Pony Renaissance competition, which required that a story: "follow the set theme of "Change". This can be as small as Pinkie Pie deciding to dye her hair...", but it was not quite a 4,000 word idea, so my contest entry utilized the 'other' main prompt: "[or it can be] as dramatic as Princess Twilight embracing the dark side".

This idea was, however, long enough for the Thousand Words contest.
