you know, somehow every time we are shown how the princesses side acts, thinks and reason i just become more and more disgusted with them, but i can't explain why
Does Shining not understand that Celestia got Spike killed? His thoughts makes it sound like Twilight betrayed Celestia for no reason. What a horrible BBBFF.

The next chapter is definitely going to provide some information regarding the reasoning behind some of the princesses' actions. Whether such information changes your perspective somewhat, or indeed makes you even more disgusted with them, remains to be seen.
5832521 welp, got me some hype
Fluttershy: "I've seen enough porn to know where this is going..."
Dangerous game you're playing, Discord...
Well, judging by how easily ponies are fooled by paper-thin disguises... (it's especially blatant in the comic with Babs and Trixie).
Also, it seems that some draconequui want to see the world burn...
5834931
Indeed. We'll be seeing some of said burning ourselves next chapter.
5832503 Less "What a horrible BBBFF" And more of Celestia keeping that a state secret. The only 5 people that know on Celestia's side is Celestia, Luna, Rarity, Rainbow, and AJ. That's it. And while Rarity is having many second thoughts, and I WANT to see her switch over and join Twilight's side. I am STILL shocked that Celestia used Luna, and tricked her into killing Spike, and Luna not being too upset about it.
5835052
Oh yeah. Hollow Shades should watch out, after all it's in the forest.
5835601 I was sure Twilight told everyone why Spike died... Shouldn't Shining know then?
5835766 I don't think so, I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure she told no pony else outside of her 'friends'. It's been a long time since I read the beginning, way back when it was just starting out, but if I remember right she got mad and left after being told that, and went to Discord's statue where they plotted to leave. Then she spent a month plotting and preparing, not seeing anypony, not even her friends at first, only to see if they might follow her.
So yeah, to the common pony, it looks like Twilight turned evil and is now helping Discord, especially since now Fluttershy is wanted for brutally murdering some poor innocent guard!
Worse is that after the fact, they all knew there was another way. After Spike Died, Twilight freaked and brought the monster down easily. So Spike did NOT need to die or else. But nopony seems to pay much attention to that on Celestia's side... Name RD and AJ. To me, it seems like there line of thinking is: "Well, better Spike died than me. Who cares of it was wrong Logically, Morally, or Emotionally. As long as Celestia says it's right, then it is right."
Shining is a fool and Celestia deserves what's coming to her and she will use who or what she can to fix things. The problem is, she only is making things worse. Luna should be a lot angrier, Shining should be a lot angrier. I am suprised Rarity will even enter Canterlot with Celestia there because she knows what Celestia did. I just can't wait for Discord plot begins, because he deserves his revenge just as much as Twilight does.

Actually, I'd argue that - from a legal standpoint, at least - she technically is a murderer.
In the law, the defence of self-defence states (in essence) that one can use 'reasonable force' to defend oneself or another person from unlawful violence. Here, their group was subject to a degree of physical violence, but this is offset by the fact that the guards were legally permitted to carry out such acts in the course of detaining them.
Of course, I'm basing the law in this fic on English law since I haven't studied law outside of my home country. Things could be different elsewhere.

It would certainly qualify as Felony Murder... Death caused in the process of committing a felony, even if accidental or in self-defense. In essence once you are performing a criminal act, those who die around you are your fault.
Now, it changes if you do not consider their attempting to overthrow the government, releasing discord, etc, criminal, but under their current jurisprudence, they would be screwed.

Thanks for clarifying that for me I'd look into the issue more myself, but I'm swamped in a tonne of Law work atm.
You know what I love about this story? Is that many of us readers think that Discord is going to betray them. I, on the other hand, think that Twilight will betray everyone so that all the blame will be towards her and not on the other two bearers...
By the way, when's the next update?

Sorry, started replying to this on my phone on the train earlier and sort of forgot.
The next update should be out within the next couple of weeks.
6417529 Couple... of... weeks...?
Ok... I can wait...
Twilight has more than used up all my sympathy for her. Right now I would accept it if Celestia was forced to kill her to protect equestria. I mean she refused to listen to reason and abused Luna's faith in her. She then manipulated her friends and does many things that she clearly knows are dangerous. All to hurt a pony who loves her as her own daughter and who was forced into an impossible position.
I'm rooting for Celestia. Even if she has to lose Twilight to her own insanity I hope she can live with it and stop Discord and maybe save Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie.
I'm not rooting for Twilight here because she is the cause of everypony's suffering.
A writing tip: Make her do something destructive. You've been talking about them ruining equestria but they haven't actually done much of that.

Though there are a number of instances of people commenting who they do and do not support in this story (including Twilight), I think you're one of the first people who has made it abundantly clear that you're sick of Twilight's shit, as opposed to Celestia's.
This pleases me greatly.
Oh, believe me, they will.

Still the build-up is too long without some in-between pay-off. You should add into previous chapters a few destructive acts while they are still getting used to being outlaws. You should try to add something that creates more tension or at least more hate towards Twilight.
6826792
I won't do that. Going back and retconning/adding other earlier events is a really cheap cop-out in my opinion, and as a reader myself I usually stop reading stories that do this.
There will be more of this - for a lot of characters - in the coming chapters. The thing is, I don't really set out with the intention of making my reader hate any one specific character. Rather, I give the characters their own weaknesses and failings and then allow my readers to be the... the jury, I suppose.
I love the dissonance between opinions on who is in the wrong. I find it much more fun to throw characters to the lions (see: my readers) and let them decide who to chew up first, than to paint certain characters as 'cat food' early on.
I'm just the judge and executioner. I put the characters in shitty situations and potentially murder a few.

it's difficult but it's not impossible. It doesn't have to impact the story but just something.
I understand your idea but things meander for a bit too long. With a slice of life story that isn't a problem but this is an adventure tale. With a slice of life story you should have moral conflicts and rely on the character interactions alone but in an adventure story there needs to be a clear goal.

I don't understand the hate towards Celestia. Its very clear that she had little choice and everything she did was for the better of the ponies she loves. She had little reason to trust Discord and saw no other chance than to sacrifice Spike.
One thing I want to ask Twilight is if she would have forgiven Celestia if she hadn't sacrificed Spike. If Spike, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie had all been killed and she discovers that by sacrificing just Spike Fluttershy and Pinkie PIe would still have been alive.

One important difference is that not fighting is an option. Self-defense only applies if you're in danger of being killed otherwise and it was pretty clear that wasn't going to happen. They could have just surrendered at any point.
More updates planned? 10 months with no chapters doesn't give me much hope.

You know, if the foray into the past is not working well for you, you can just toss it aside and continue forward instead. I know with my stuff, my longest hiatuses have occurred when I have tried to continue on with something that isn't working, and it is liberating in a way to shred bunches of words and forge on in a different way.

I don't plan on giving up on this story by any stretch, but I've had a lot of things happen to me since last year that have really made it difficult to write. I'm sorry for dodging your comments for so long, I've been avoiding extended visits to the site for months now.
Whilst I haven't seen the new episode, the news that a new season has started inevitably drew me back here, and reminded me that I still haven't responded to some comments and messages for a long time.
I'm genuinely sorry for the lack of communication, and the disgusting wait I've put you - and other dedicated readers - through. Indeed, it's more than likely many of you have given up on the story or forgotten most everything that has happened thusfar if not.
Frankly, I'm in need of a re-read myself.
A rather depressing comment, but then it's been a rather depressing year for me. I'll try to stick around the site more over the coming weeks, and I should be able to get the chapter in progress done by the summer, after my exams.

Great to hear the story's not dead!
