Tick, tick, tick. The clock on the wall was ticking away the seconds, all the while Rainbow Dash sat in a hospital. The other pony that was usually there was out on a call. After Spitfire had fallen from the sky (quite literally), she had been rushed to the hospital in Canterlot by ambulance. Rainbow was the only one riding in the back besides the medic and had been in the room with her ever since. However, Spitfire had undergone quite a makeover. Her head was wrapped in bandages and wings were well..... gone. 'Gone, bucking gone!' Rainbow thought bitterly, 'She'll never fly again.'
-Flash Back-
The doctor walked out of the room to a sobbing Rainbow Dash.
"Miss Dash I presume?" He addressed her.
"Y-yeah, that’s me. Will she be all right?"
"Why don't you look for yourself?" He showed her a pair of x-rays.
Rainbow stared at them for a while before saying, "I have no idea what those mean..."
"She broke every bone in both of her wings, piercing the skin in several places. She also broke several ribs and her right arm, as well as her left leg. Miss Dash, I hate to tell you this but she'll be perfectly fine except..."
"Wait, you hate to tell me she'll be fine?" Rainbow interrupted the doctor, raising an eyebrow.
"If you let me finish, I would tell you she'll be fine except her wings. W-we have to amputate them." A grim expression played over the doctor’s face as he said this. "I'm sorry but not even our most talented unicorns could save her wings."
"You mean she'll never fly again?"
"Sadly, yes." Rainbow then began to weep silently; the only sound was her tears hitting the floor.
-Flash Forward-
A couple days earlier, Rainbow had been in the hospital after taking her anger out on flying. It didn't go over so well and she had been grounded for a couple days, during which time she had discovered a new love of reading. She had brought over her favorite book, "Daring Do", for Spitfire to read while she was in the hospital. When she woke that is...
-Time Lapse-
Here she is again. Rainbow was sitting at the edge of Spitfire’s bed. The heart monitor quietly beeping in the background and another visitor not so quietly snoring in the corner with his hat tipped over his eyes.
"H-hey Spitfire, how’s it going?" Rainbow asked to herself, followed by, "I got you a new book to read when you wake up, I guess....." Spitfire moaned in her sleep at that.
"Rainbow D-dash," She whispered.
"Spitfire!?!" Rainbows head snapped to attention, shouting, "Spitfire! It's me. It's Rainbow Dash!" Spitfire slowly opened her eyes, only to see Rainbow before her with tears in her eyes.
"Rainbow!" Spitfire was almost tackled out of the bed by Dash, however she managed to keep herself upright. Right after, Rainbow planted a very passionate kiss right on Spitfire’s lips.
Spitfire immediately looked to the corner of the room to where the dark grey pegasus with a yellow and orange mane was still sleeping, only to ask, "Who the buck is that?"
"Oh him? I think his name is Skylight... When you crashed, he was the EMT in the back. He got a pulse right before they pulled you into the hospital and he's been coming in between EMS calls," Rainbow explained, her smile disappearing after she mentioned the accident but then returned talking about how she lived. The smile was once again short lived however, after remembering what she would have to tell Spitfire.
"I brought you a book!" Rainbow said, giving her "Daring Do".
"When did you get into reading?"
"The week that you've been asleep."
"Oh, well would you like to read it to me?"
"I would love to." Rainbow quickly kissed her on the cheek. "Now let’s start at the beginning. 'Daring Do stood before the entrance to th.."
"Hey Rainbow?"
"Yeah Spitfire?"
"Why does my back feel so light? Did they put some numbing agent on it or something?" Spitfire looked at her back and gasped.
"Oh, well Spitfire..."
"Rainbow, where are my wings?!?"
"Ummm....Yeah, after you fell, your wings completely broke. Th-they had to am-amputate them," Dash said, tears forming in her eyes once more. She then proceeded to bawl into Spitfires chest.
"So they’re gone?" Spitfire asked. All Rainbow could manage was to nod into her chest. "Gone; I have no wings... None at all....."
"And now you can never fly again," Rainbow muttered, crying.
"Hey, shhhhhh. It's ok. I'm fine. I can still walk on clouds, however you pointing out the obvious isn't helping," Spitfire spoke soothingly to Rainbow, even though on the inside she was freaking the buck out. 'I don't have wings! They're just gone! No... no I have to be strong.... For Rainbow and for me,' She thought to herself.
"No! It's not fine! You can't fly anymore! You, a pegasus that can't bucking fly!" Dash continued to cry.
"Rainbow! It's fine! I'm fine! Just promise me one thing?"
"W-what’s that?"
"Promise me that even though I can't fly, or anything else that might happen. You'll always love me and you'll always accept my love."
"I promise," Dash said, kissing Spitfire once more. "Anything else you want me to promise you?"
"Oh! Also promise me that you'll make sure Rarity doesn't go overboard on our wedding dresses."
"I promise that too," Dash assured, kissing Spitfire again.
"Did he really just sleep though all that?" Spitfire motioned to Skylight.
"Yeah, he came in last night around midnight mumbling something about rugby then fell asleep in that chair." She ended with a giggle. "Why, do you want to wake him up?"
"Let's let him sleep." And at Spitfires wishes, Rainbow took a blanket and draped it over the sleeping colt, only to go fall asleep with another pony entirely. And they couldn't be happier.
very good, a nice bit of reading. My only complante with this otherwise spotless chapter is how you handled the emotion in it, it had such protenciel to be a heavily moving and heartwarming chapter, that also carried such sadness and angurish, it could of stolen the tears of all the readers, and it did pinch a few but not all, but it feels as if you rushed it. It was still a fantastic chapter and an exilient bit of reading. I just feel as if it could have been so much more.
Overall 4.6/5
P.S appologies for my bad spelling here and there, its been a long day and i have not had enough coffee.
so let me get this straight: a pegasis that has all the bones in her wing's broken is less morbid then simple death? make sense i guess.
also another great chapter. a teeny bit short but nothing that can't be forgiven.
NEVER FLY AGAIN OH NO...maybe they should talk to Twi.
Ow, my soul... I literally felt my body take some sort of shock when I read about Spitfire's wings being, well, gone. I mean, yeah, I'm glad you decided to let her live and all, but that was just completely unexpected. Don't let all that stuff I just said fool you, though, I still love the story-- and I guess losing her wings can do Spitfire good... somehow... maybe give her a different outlook on life?
Thanks for all the positive feed back everypony!
Wings... gone? Like completely gone? Wow... that is just horrible, flying is everything for a pegasus, and when I say everything, I mean everything. They've had them since birth, and to have them just taken away, never to fly again? That's got to cause some damage.
Which is why I am slightly disappointed with this chapter. As I said, flying is everything to pegasi, everything, they were built to soar in the sky. Now that Spitfire can't do that, any of that, I expected her reaction to be, more. The worst possible thing that could happen, happened, and Spitfire is totally okay with that. In fact, Rainbow is more upset than her... Which I can understand, but it just felt like it was lacking.
Not that the chapter wasn't good, definitely one heck of a twist, and I'm always looking forward to more

Meanwhile Spitfires thinking: "What the fuck! Where the hell did my wings go! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..."
Better?
TWILIGHT GIVE SPITFIRE THAT SPELL YOU USED ON RARITY WHEN RAINBOW DID A SONIC RAINBOOM!
this chapter make me sad
I cannot rate this chapter i can only go up to Twenty but its better!
YOU ROCK!
And now we wait for Spitfire to crack and start jumping off of things to take off again
194647
You sir have given me an idea, a horrible horrible idea!
I like this story, I was waiting for something involving Dash and Spitfire. The only possible qualm is a personal preference of mine, that being the short chapters. I would suggest making them longer but it is your story and the fact things seem to go pretty fast is a little iffy (maybe I just read too fast). Aside from that it's awesome, and that's why I'm tracking it.
194785 Ooooo! Oooooo! While you're taking horrible, horrible ideas, see if you can work in The Thing! Who doesn't want to see Fluttershy faced with a puppy that horrifically turns into a bloody, screeching abomination of flesh and insanity! It'd be soo cute!
195058
Your comments worry me......
195092
He's the void, what can you expect? I would believe it'd get awfully boring being nothing...
Also, yes, that satisfies my hunger for over-reaction, thank you
Another great chapter as always, I was in shock when I read that spits wings were gone, but at least she isn't dead as always 4.5 from me, since no story can be perfect. Keep em coming!!
195092 Awwwww. At least have Scootaloo run around with Spit's shattered wings, flapping them and clucking like a chicken wearing Rainbow's scalp as a wig!
195279
Thanks for the rating! Everyone seems to be surprise that I got rid of her wings! But that was the plan!
195653
.......Once again.....
195976 Say it with me everybody! And then they all......
Also......What happened to the poor bird?!
196135
2.asset.soup.io/asset/2331/4626_3e6d.gif
196371 So Spitfire hit the bird so hard she broke her wing and caused the bird to vaporize! Hey, in the place of her wings she could have giant spider legs....or human arms and hands sticking out of her shoulders! She could give Lyra a highfive!
199193
You know what? Not even responding this time....
199385 Awwww.
All goofiness aside, I do want to ask you something. And no it's not something stupid like what I have mentioned above. I'm wondering how far ahead do you plan the chapters?
200864
I've got the next three or four chapters planed out.
201206 Do you do outlines or just general plot lines that you stick to and write the story around?
201228
The latter
201233 Ah. Do you actually write it down or do you just do what I do and keep a general idea in your head? I do that mainly because I sometimes find myself wanting to change certain aspects of the storyline or in the case of my second story, change the whole feel of the darn thing over halfway through.
201247
I usually have a general idea of where I want the story to go, after that I might do some preliminary writing just to see what I want to do, but mostly I just play it by ear!
201257 Ah thanks. By the way, got any advice on getting oneself motivated to write? I'd like to update weekly to prevent me from falling off and leaving my stories half finished. Any suggestions?
>>Sithis Probably not the person you were expecting a response from but.
A very good way to get motivated to write is to listen to music. Not anything in particular.. I for one listen to a variety of music depending on what mood I'm trying to set or which character I'm writing dialogue for. You can listen to it while writing it or just focus on the music and think about the lyrics, inspiration WILL strike. Another good way is to just back off from the story for a little bit, focus on something else, like if you're stuck on a certain spot then start writing another story, it doesn't really have to go anywhere, and you may come up with something. Finally you could just borrow elements from other things, if you pay attention to any of my stories you'll begin to notice certain elements.. Or just wing it and write something random down and change it to fit, that's one of my best strategies. The trick is to not think too hard about it, the more you focus on it the less likely you are to actually solve the issue. I've been writing for a couple years - mainly original content and not fanfics - and I speak from experience about this.
203443 Thanks. I usually go off and work on something else for awhile.
Damn you! Damn You! Damn you! Why must you do this? Why must you be such a good writer?
for a pegaus like spitfire, this is probably worse than death
