A problem occurs

Spitfire felt like a god. She felt as though she could overcome any obstacle thrown her way; any at all. And she had good reason, too. Just yesterday, Spitfire had proposed to Rainbow Dash and she had accepted. She couldn't help but feel as though she had conquered the world because in a sense, she had. She had conquered her world and her life. And now, she couldn't be happier flying next to the pony who she wanted to spend the rest of that life and that world with.

"Spitfire!" Rainbow yelled, trying to get her attention.

"What?" Spitfire shouted back, trying to be heard over the rush of the wind.

"I saw you spaced out back there. You better focus on flying!" Rainbow yelled, smirking.

"Oh don't worry, I'm plenty focused!" Spitfire yelled, "How about we take a break on that cloud over there?" She suggested, gesturing to an upcoming cloud.

"Sounds good!" Rainbow Dash agreed. Stopping, she softly landed on the cloud and pointed out, "Hey! Look at that. The sun’s already setting!"

"Yeah, it sure is," Spitfire agreed, before resting her head on Rainbow's shoulder and adding, "Makes you feel small, doesn't it?"

"Yeah, it kinda does," Rainbow returned, silence ensuing as they watched the sun go down. Rainbow interrupted the short silence after a while. "So where are we going, anyways?" she asked.

"Well considering I just proposed yesterday, I thought we would have a little celebration." Rainbow blushed before Spitfire continued, "So I got Soarin' to lend me the Wonderbolts’ stadium for some dinner and some... hot.... steamy..." Spitfire leaned in close, making Rainbow blush. "Racing!" she quickly finished, withdrawing before Dash could do anything.

"You got Soarin' to lend you the entire stadium?" Rainbow asked, for once, genuinely impressed.

"Well yeah, he kinda owed me a favor..." Spitfire started before hesitating.

"And what was this favor, Spitfire?" Rainbow asked, smirking again.

"Uhh well," Spitfire muttered, blushing and finally admitting, "Let’s just say that if it wasn't for him, I would be half as happy as I am now..." With that, she planted a quick kiss on Rainbow's lips.

"I'll take that for an answer," Rainbow cooed, planting a longer, more passionate kiss on her lover’s lips. After a bit, they broke apart smiling. "Wait, Spits?"

"Yeah?" Spitfire asked, responding to her pet name.

"You said dinner, but neither of us brought any food..." Rainbow questioned, raising an eyebrow at Spitfire.

"Don't you think I would've had food delivered there?" Spitfire reasoned.

"Nope," Dash responded simply. Spitfire stood up.

"Now come on. We’re almost there anyways." She poked the other filly with her leg.

"Fine, but I expect only the best of foods!" Rainbow declared, posing dramatically.

"Would pizza be fine?" Spitfire asked.

Rainbow immediately got down from her pose before accepting, "Yeah, pizza would be cool." Spitfire couldn't help but chuckle at that.

"Well good, as that’s what I ordered," Spitfire stated, a-matter-o-factly.

"Shall we go?" Rainbow suggested in a fake Trottingham accent.

"Mmm yes, let’s," Spitfire agreed, smiling and repeating the accent. Together they took off from the cloud and began to fly to the stadium once more, this time at a more leisurely pace.

"So how long has it been since you preformed here?" Rainbow asked, trying to strike a conversation back up.

"Oh, I don't know... Eight months?" Spitfire estimated, deep in thought.

"But I thought you only quit six months ago...?" Rainbow questioned.

"I quit in the middle of training," Spitfire admitted, a sheepish grin on her face.

"Oh..." Rainbow murmured, looking away for a moment. As soon as she looked away, she heard a loud "Squawk!" from the side of her. She looked back to her side and Spitfire wasn't there anymore. She stopped and looked around but she was nowhere to be seen. Looking down finally, she saw Spitfire free falling with her wing at an awkward angle. Shit she thought to herself, realizing she was letting her fall. Rainbow began a free fall of her own an instant later. While trying to catch up with Spitfire, Rainbow felt her eyes sting and begin to water and even though she began to speed up more and more, she couldn't catch up with Spitfire. Feeling the familiar Mach cone begin to form around her, she felt a slight jolt of hope as she began to speed up slowly, closing the gap between her and Spitfire. As they neared the ground closer and closer, Rainbow thought she was going to catch Spitfire... She really did. When she finally broke the sound barrier and the familiar circular rainbow explosion litter the sky, it propelled her in the opposite direction of her target. "NO! NONONO!" Rainbow shouted, quickly trying to turn around. Meanwhile, a yellow pegasus fell to the ground with a simple “thump” noise. Rainbow finally turned around as quick as she could and began flying towards the limp body. However, upon reaching the broken body and giving it one look, all she could do was sit down next to it and begin to cry. "HELP! Please help me!" Rainbow yelled to the surrounding forest. Ponyville was nearby, thankfully, and her cries were soon answered by Pinkie’s 'Pinkie Sense' and 4 other very familiar ponies. "Guys! Please help me. She's hurt!" Rainbow cried. She was rapidly taken into the arms of an orange farm pony.

"Shhh, its okay, just cry it out," Applejack comforted, cradling the pegasus in her arms.

"Pl-please h-help her..." Rainbow got out between choked sobs.

"It's okay. Twi' won't let her die, I know it!"

Author's Note:

Problem much? You guys hopefully didn't see this coming! And hopefully you won't see the next chapter either. This was my best attempt at a cliffhanger. Also, did you notice this chapter was grammatically correct? That’s 'cause I got it checked beforehand. Expect more of that -Theengineerbrony
