Equestria at War is one of the absolute best trio of HoI4 total overhaul mods, along with The New Order and Old World Blues. So much worldbuilding, so much story, so much new and fun gameplay mechanics. I only have base game HoI4 (without DLCs) and those three mods alone gave me hundreds of times worth of fun than the 10 bucks I paid for the game itself.

I cannot recommend it enough; everyone should try it, if not for the game then for the extensive AU the team behind it had created.

I think the most ironic part of EaW is that it manifested so massively and with such a good-working dev team behind it. Still, I would have imagined that it would have first happened with EU4 since it would fit better in the late medieval timeline with some differences. There have been so many attempts in Paradox Games to see a mod as successful as EaW, but the closest thing to that is the MLP mod for VIctoria II.

Crusader Kings and HoI4 are really the only Paradox games that a good MLP mod could exist for. The other games are too impersonal with the characters, so at most you'd get leaders renamed and a new map. Crusader Kings and HoI4 actually give you the opportunity to craft a story with a character; that being the entire point of CK, and the short time-span that HoI4 takes place in means that you aren't constantly cycling through leaders. MLP is more about the characters, not the setting. An MLP mod for EU4 wouldn't work, because the most a character there amounts to is a name and some stats. And since days are the smallest unit of time in EU4, you'd only have a character for a few hours before they die, unless they're immortal.
